The XP-80 is not some kid's keyboard with rythm tracks and other junk.
I've had my "80" since 1998 and am still in love with it. I'm still amazed at the functions of this keyboard to tweak the sounds and effects. The sequencer is a real powerhouse. If it had 128 note polyphony, there'd be no reason to even consider anything els until it completely dies.
That said, I've never had mch of a problem with the 64 note polyphony.
I wish Roland would bring this board back for another round - I'd buy a brand new one in a second.

I first had a xp 50 but after 14 loyal years he passed away. Now i had a problem because i didn't had money for another expensive synth. So i decided to buy an expanded xp 80 (with the session, orchestra and 60's & 70's on board). It was the best choice i could made with the little budget i had! Nice keyboard touch and a lot of good sounds. Your creativity can bring this synth to a higher level for live performances. Still you can find free patches and editors software on the internet from other users. And with a little practice you can create unending numbers of new sounds. For me this synth is more than okay!

Well I have and XP and its just what I wanted and this board is one of its kind, its a wonderful piece and you wont regret if you get one. I only would like that Roland would continue to provide support for XP if something would go wrong with your Xp 80.

The Roland XP-80 Workstation has the same sound generator as the JV series modules which were the industry standard.
It's real strength is getting ideas down fast. Surprising good for dance music as you can edit and record on the fly.
I've had mine for 9 trouble free years and doubt I'd sell it. Some of the expansion cards are very good... the vintage synth card is a must !
If you're buying. shop around, some people ask the earth.
