“golf 1.8t gti 150”

Written on: 28/01/2013 by jimmy_dee

does everything well. good performance, good handling, great cruiser. actually this car is better suited to fast cruising than anything else. it would be taken apart by less powerful, lighter, more purposeful cars on a track. the suspension is soft for a 'sports' car, though it rides well and damping is very good. good economy at 35mpg. heard guys saying they get mid 40's on a trip. I find this hard to believe. around town expect 18-22 mpg. if you can get the 180, take it. the extra 30bhp... (read more)

“Best car ever owned!”

Written on: 11/11/2012 by Vdub_king

The car is very well built, solid and reliable. Pulls very well in each gear, had 50 in 2nd without any strain at all! If driven sensible you can easily get 33-35 mpg on urban roads, motorways an easy 40mpg. The dashboard looks fantastic at night all lit up in purple/blue, the boot is huge, spent 120pound on food and easily fitted it all in. The recaro seats really set itll off inside, very sporty and hold the driver in very securely around tight corners, mines fitted with climate control,... (read more)

only had the car a week but first impressions are the ones that last-- i love it, mine has the jabba sports upgrade 225 bhp (which basically ups the power to audi tt standards ) why vw did not do this originally i dont know (maybe didnt want people buying the cheaper vw sooner than over expensive audis??) its in dragon green metalic and has r32 alloys which just seem to bring a 10 year old car up to todays standards which i suppose are what golfs are all about, there pretty much timeless.the... As standard i wouldn't recomend a golf to anyone. A proper driver would notice the huge amount of body roll when cornering. Yes, Golf's are well known for there good road handling but this only apply's to its strong grip and not the ability to power through a corner under control. When tear assing them you may get a hell of alot of torque but this doesn't show up in 0-60 times due to its poor power to weight ratio. Even my old standard fiesta 1.3 could just about keep up to the GTI.Im not... (read more)

I found this review very helpful because...it gave good detail regarding the flaws the golf has and even offered comparisons to other similar models and solutions.

totaly agree with this guy i had a 2001 fiesta freestyle 1.6 zetec i sold it then bought a 2001 mk4 1,8t golf and was disapointed with the performance of the golf like he says lots of body roll and a poor top speed of 135 mph flat out as standard my fiesta did 130 mph and as for a 0-100 mph run the golf would be left for dead slightly embarasing not even beeing to out acclerate a diesal van i have also had numerous faults with my golf which has sorta taken the fun outta owning it would make me really think hard about ever buying a vw again faults are coil packs go . thermostat went . 2 rear shocks . glove box bust easy . water from rear window wiper leaks into lock . which in turn leads to electical problem lockin the car . the interior is beautifull but the worst creaking and rattles ever from suposidly a quality car "think again for ever seeing check engine lights on dash .lucky i know a little bit about car as would cost a fortune at main dealer to get removed . overall very poor car bit like a boat gotta be the lowest powerd turbo car of all time . carnt wait to get rid of the piece off S+++

i have a 53 golf gti 180 (auq) engine code which was only made for 1 year only. i have got to say it's the best car i have ever owned.comfort, power, and so smooth and built to last.it's now running 210 bhp with a simple remap from r-tech(the vw gods). all my friends can't belive how quick it is because it looks quite plain looking. keep it well serviced and it will last 250k or more. My VW Golf 1.8T (GTi Turbo - 150bhp) and me have had some serious fun over the past four years.
It is a great car, with loads of power, handles well, and once I replaced the Pirelli 6000 tyres with Michelin premacy's it actually stuck like glue cornering.
All golfs have a water pump issue (you must be driving it well) and also the MK4's have a gearbox issue/fault, even that aside it is stilla 10/10 car,.
It can be a family car or a wee race machine, depending on how quick you want to drive... (read more)

I'v had my Volkswagen Golf GTI 1.8T Turbo for 2 years and i must say it's great, faster than my old Ford RS Turbo, and it drives so well due to the independant rear suspention. it looks great like a proper classic. Faster than the 2.0L Gti this is great car. 0-60 in 8.4 Sec Top speed 140. Plus lots of engine and turbo mods out there. A1 (read more)

Had my Volkswagen Golf for 15 months had to have the water pump changed but this is a common fault i am led to be believed ,if yours goes make sure they change it with a metal impeller as the plastic ones corrode, and mines only done 30,000 miles.Other than this is a great car decent sized boot ,nice interior. If you want a great all rounder theres none better. I've had my gti for 2 years now and it's never let me down. In that time I've become a dad and the boot can hold all the things you need for a short holiday or a day out. I don't have plans to change it the future unless it's for another one in the same colour and engine. GTi and vw golf fit perfect together. (read more)

Easy on gas and very sporty, a real head turner. Great handling, though I ' ve seen one user say that his Mrs. lost it during a corner at a low speed (excuse me mate but you're Mrs. can't drive for toffee, I took many sharp turns at least 120kmh and never left my lane), reasonably easy to medium to maintain and great interior Bought one 5 months ago at a mere 7600 euros, full extras. Got it an hkn air filter, a borla exhaust and an hks bov and it ' s just in the center of attention. Couldn't... (read more)

My Golf Gti 1.8 T is an amazing ride, I always get compliments. This is a car I want to run into 500k. I don't think I could upgrade, unless to a 4 door. Fast, smooth, car that can still hold up to quick aggressive curves. Amazing blue light interior, very sharp and trendy looking. Car sounds and looks sexy. The turbo that whistles always turns heads! What a great feeling! I can see why some say pocket rocket, not to mention great on gas! I love always having a place to park. (read more)

This is a shame as the car is good looking, lots of extras and smooth to drive. At the time of owning this car I had a standard Escort RS Turbo which walked all over the Golf. You just don't get enough from that Turbo. You want it to push you back in the seat and be aggressive and mean and make lots of noise but it's silent and you would think it was just a 1.8. The handling was comical and we decided to sell this car after my Mrs lost it going around a dry roundabout (my Mrs never drives... (read more)

I've just bought a Volkswagen Golf GTI 1.8T on a 'W' plate and after some initial concerns with an electrical problem caused by an incorrectly fitted car kit, I have to say I love this car. Compared to the Peugeot 206 XS I owned prior to this, it is simply on another level as a motor vehicle and I shiver to think what the R32's and new MK5's must be like. Yes, my Peugeot was fun and yes, it was easy to maintain, but here I have a turbo-charged car with a bigger engine that has equal fuel... (read more)

Had my Jazz Blue 2 door Golf GTI 20v Turbo for about 2 months (my 6th Golf) Must say I'm loving it, the interior is such an improvement over the Mk2's and Mk3's so is the ride (so smooth) Lovely to hear that Turbo whistle! Power is not blistering but its more than enough. The car just looks so nice and sits so pretty, the blue recardo's finish off the interior so well. As said before build quality is excellent, everything you'd expect from a Golf GTI. Expensive but highly recommended! (read more)

I would definitely buy another VW Golf GTI 1.8T. Though they are expensive. I bought this one over a Mazda 6 Touring, though it was nice with many additional features, it did not have the power that the Golf has. Mine is 150bhp. I should have gone for the 180bhp. (read more)

I've had my 3 dr dark metallic blue VW Golf GTI 1.8T for 2.5 years, and I have never once thought about changing it for anything else. I'm just waiting for the Mk5 to come out.

It is pretty quick, 2nd and 3rd gear performance is great, just let the Turbo take care of the low down stuff, then keep your foot hard in until the 20 valves take over at 4500 rpm. And if you are feeling sad, put the drivers window down a tad and listen to the Turbo whistling away, that'll cheer you up.

Solid car, everything you would expect from a golf. GTI that has an achievable economy of 30-35 MPG. Very comfortable to drive.0-60mph 8.5 seconds, its not as fast as some of its competitors, but I feel a much better car. Expensive but holds its value. (read more)

I have recently purchased my 5th Volkswagen product & it is a Golf Gti. Brilliant motorcar, very solidly built. The last of the Gti 4 series, mk 5 coming out soon. I agree not as fast as others but not much out there can match the build quality, reliability, practicability, looks, feel, etc. Not the best road handling either but the resale value is good on VW'S. One can only go so fast, but neat to feel safe in what one drives. Very well equipped & great value for money, at $41 grand. Brilliant sound system, sun roof, stereo cd, full climate control, 4 airbags, great adjustable seats, 5 door hatch, spacious, firm sports suspension ride,3 year warranty, electric mirrors, great looker, even for us geriatrics. I owned 18 cars in 19 years at one stage & this is one of the better european ones I have owned. Can go on & on but that is enuf. If u can get one get it & enjoy it folks. Doug.
