Thought buying the most expensive insurance on the market would mean fair treatment. NO. A claim the Vet said was valid was declined by this crowd. Wish I had read their reviews earlier.

insured for a year, had to make a calm for for £350, turns down on a technical hitch, absolute rubbish.

My dog had to have her tail amputated and because the policy had come to an end and renewed they made me pay to excesses and two lots of 10% of the bill. The cost of this insurance is extremely high with high excesses and the service is extremely poor. I would stay well away !!!! disgusting behaviour from a company that is a regulator of dogs.

I have an 18 month old Irish Setter. My instalments increased from £55 to £66 from the first year to the second. I have a lifetime policy so this increase is extortionate. The reason I was given was too many people had made claims - well you are an insurance company! One procedure by the vet. Umbilical hernia repair, removal of testicles that had not desended and removal of wart on lip. Excess of £160 plus 20% added 3 times although this was done under one operation. Over £800 in vet fees and only £270 refunded. This took over 8 weeks to be paid. The 20% was never mentioned when the policy was sold to me. On requesting to cancel the policy I have been told I need to pay the remainder of the years monthly instalments. £550. I was also told that if I cancelled the direct debit I would be "chased" for the money but they wouldn't say quite how!!! They didn't bother to offer me a different policy just wanted the rest of the years money. Terrible company with the worst customer service. Do not use them.

I have insured my female Boxer and not claimed for 2 years, unfortunately due to an orthopaedic investigation I had to claim. On checking the policy in very small print there is mention of a 20% excess and £85 which was never mentioned by the salesman on the telephone. I have registerd a complaint and the company has not even had the decency to get back to me despite saying they would review the sale of the policy. I feel I was totally misold this policy and would not recommend this shoddy company to anybody

Our minature schnauzer has I M H A for which he needed an urgent blood transfusion as well as a week in the vets & is still having regular blood tests & medication.Despite our vet completing & returning the claim form 3 weeks on we have'nt received a cheque.Today I spoke with one very rude woman who said we have been inundated with claims & the claim is waiting to be processed.I'm also told that we shall be liable for a percentage charge as well as the agreed £85 excess which we have no knowledge of agreeing to.If anybody is considering this Company think very seriously and double check their terms.

We've not had a problem with the few claims we've made (though it took quite a while to settle), but other companies tend to have more comprehensive coverage with comparable rates. Our other dog is ensured with John Lewis and they are much better, and our neighbour has Pet Plan and loves them. Our vet is shocked at what KC don't cover, even had me ring to double check! We'd switch but our dog had a UTI when he was just 10 weeks, still on the temp cover from the breeder so now we can't switch or he'll never be covered for any similar condition. Wish we could!

I was a little disappointed with my introduction to the Kennel Club insurance. I wonder if the people on the phones are actually part of the Kennel Club or an outsourced organisation. Either way, my view of the Kennel Club has been tarnished. Having looked into insurance, the Kennel Club insurance rang me and we discussed the multitude of options. On being given a quote, I realised that I was in a hard sell environment. The lady asked if she could ring back in a couple of weeks but I specifically said no and that I would like the quote sent to me as offered. I explained that I would review all options and compare but needed to see the quote. She agreed to send it but quite abruptly put the phone down when I re iterated my keenness to see the quote but no return sales call. Two weeks later, I had another call (this morning). Not that I am too bothered, but it seems to me that the hard sell and abrupt selling environment does not sit well with an organisation such as the Kennel Club.

I took out Kennel Club Pet Insurance for my dog, following on from a 4 week free policy received when we got him as a puppy. Having received my first renewal letter (he's now just over 1 year old), I decided to do a price comparison with another leading 'covered for life' provider, only to discover a huge difference in cost. When I rang to cancel the policy I was offered a much reduced price policy, that matched the other provider. This all seemed good, and I was on the point of continuing my cover. But here was the problem - this was no longer a continuation of cover, but was now classed as a new policy. I would therefore no longer be covered for anything that might have occurred in the previous policy year. In order to be 'covered for life' I would have to keep paying the ridiculously overpriced payments. I decided to take my business elsewhere. Looking through some of the reviews here, I'm glad I did!

Done bother! the renewal for a 12 month old shih tzu went up by £10 at first renewal, then refused to cover his eyes because he had suffered from an infection during the year. What is the point?? dont bother.

This was good until taken over by present insurance company who are clearly out to make money. Initially 7 years ago excellent cover . Terms to keep to but they paid minus expected 10%. The last 4 years ]since takeover] the premiums have risen £38 to £55 to £64 to £81.These are massive percentages. My dog has hip dysplasia and was forecast on the basis of X rays to need both hips replaced by the age of 3. Hydrotherapy to strengthen muscles and 6-8 week acupuncture means she runs instead of hobbling and loves life. Now the insurance is 3x the vets bill which is all thats stopping her needing double hip replacement; but they're trying to get rid of her as there's a regular 8 weekly payment of £45 less 10%. Insurance for life yes but how many £thousand premium in 1-2 years? AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

I' took out KC insurance 8 years ago when i first brought my two spaniels home,, it was highly recommended by the breeder and most comprehensive insurances on the market. A huge mistake - I would never insure with them again, Joining was easy, they telephone customer service excellent etc (which it still is). It's easy to be impressed by such a professional looking company - but this changes when it comes to renewals and claims. despite the high premiums when i joined i thought it was worth it. But year on year theoremiums escalated far beyond what i considered normal insurance increases (i.e. like a car / home etc) In 2010 I was hit by a 70% increase in fees - along with many other owners insured with KC, but I was stuck with an 8 yr old dog suffering from. pancreatisis that no orher insurerer would take on. Earlier this yr, due to an administrative error on their part - they had failed to collect the premium as it fell - So I was forced to pay £450 with less than 24 hours notice otherwise the insurance would have been cancelled. (a new policy was not an option as it would exclude current medical conditions). It was a real "computer says no" moment and I was horrified by their incompetence. This week I have rec'd a letter saying that they won't cover some of the medication prescribed by our vet. This happened once before whereupon there was lengthy correspondence between my vets and the insurer and eventually they agreed the medication was in fact necessary and paid out. This time not only have they refused but are no saying that it was previously paid in error and wanting to get their money back!!! I am absolutely horrified. They know full well that we can't move to another insurer. I shall take this up with the regulators but inthe meantime hope you will consider this and other owners experiences posted here before insuring with the KC. The thing about insurance is that once you claim, you are stuck with that company. It was a huge mistake.

Have paid my Premiums since I got my dog, not cheap probably one of the more expensive Pet Insurance Companies so expected a Premium Service. That has been an utter Joke came to claim for Vet Bill in early September contacted them to be told they hadn't received the forms, sent a second set to them, contacted them again to be told that they hadn't received the forms yet again. On the basis of their performance with this claim they don't deserve one star and as for Insurance providing peace of mind maybe they qualify for negative stars, can the review centre accomodate this.

This review relates to 2005. I bought my English Cocker Spaniel puppy and the breeder told me she had wormed them the day before and they all had the runs. I was back and forth to the vets over several weeks and nothing was found to be wrong, the same was the case with the rest of the litter. The 2 weeks free insurance refused to pay out, saying it was a pre-existing condition. They kept sending me e-mails to continue insuring with them and I said pay up and i'll think about it. (they never did. There insurance was also the most expensive on the market at the time.

This was a big mistake on my part, after getting the recommended leaflet in my Kennel Club pet registration documents I decided to sign up with them. £38 per month. I called to make my claim and they sent me a form, I had the vets fill it in and send it off for me. 4 weeks after sending it off I get a call from a very smarmy consultant from the Kennel Club Insurance who couldn't have sounded more pleased if she tried to continue to tell me I was not covered for my claim! The excuse was that the breeder didn't register my Dog until 2 weeks after I purchased her and because I took my dog to the vet withing those two weeks I was not covered! I tried to argue that, that situation is out of my hands she then went onto say that the vet had diagnosed the problem within those 2 weeks, but I said they had NOT diagnosed they only made a note to keep an eye on her skin and she said it doesn't matter the noted by the vet and that was good enough for them!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON NOT ENTER INTO ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY YOU WILL NOT GET ANY OF YOUR MONEY BACK, DO NOT MAKE THEM RICH, THERE ARE MANY COMMENDABLE PET INSURERS OUT THERE

Avoid complete nightmare of an insurance company- Had a claim in 2008 for Gastro enteritus take ages to settle claimed again when dog suffered similar symptoms and was hospitalised 3 years later, vets couldnt get to the bottom of it but diagnosed again as possible Gastro enteritus. Agria didtn even write to tell us refused only established when called them -they said it was a repeat occurence and not covered!!! Our vet wrote them a letter to say that there is not a possibility that an incident of gastro enteritus happening 3 years apart could be related and that it was an original and legal claim and should be settled.. This has now been taken to FSA. ALL YOU GET IS MASSIVE PREMIUMS, AND MASSIVE APATHY

Those of you who have marked high stars - you have been very lucky - my 3 years with them has been a nightmare. I took up the insurance after the free 6 week period supplied by the breeder. Too much to talk about here, but if anyone is reading this avoid them like the plague!!!!!! They have changed me to their new policy last month and doubled my premium. I do consider I was missold their insurance 3 years ago when they assured me it was 'cover for life', which is was not. Only a certain 'pot' for each condition and once that had run out NOTHING!!! A disc operation last year wiped out nearly all the 'pot' for this condition so as he is only 3 years old I have nothing left if he has another problem with it. I have been in dispute with them for nearly a year and am about to go to the Financial Ombudsman Service. They left me 6 months without answering my letters/emails and have now dismissed my complaint. They have admitted to me in an email that their business has been in trouble, hence the new policy and the hyped up charges to try and recoupe some of their losses.
Believe me - use Pet Plan I have for years with my pets and wish to God I never heard of The Kennel Club Pet Insurance. Surely someone ought to tell the Kennel Club what is happening. I am sure they would not be happy.
I have had to give them 1 star in the review as it would not let me post if I didn't. Wanted to leave it blank.

Avoid like the plague. My premiums were DOUBLED (From £300 to £600 per annum)from one year to the next and the customer service is arrogant and unhelpful. I am happy to pay a premium for a premium service, however it is clear that Agria are charging a premium just to benefit from the Kennel club name. I recommend any other clients in a similar situation take this right through the complainst process and ultimately to the onbudsman.

Completely agree with many of the comments already made. They are happy taking your money when you don't claim but as soon as you do, the policy goes up by exactly 100% in our case. Because you have already had treatment, that illness won't then be covered by another insurer so they think that you have no option. Wrong! I've just cancelled and will take the chance thanks very much!

hi,
i have my dog with kc and she gets 10,000 per condition and her policy also due to go on the new one and they say all conditions she has are covered by new one and the amount goes up to £10,000 a year so once used up tops up the next year, that is lifelong you get a certain amount in that pot for the condition and once used up well your buggered, but i cant understand why you arent benefitting from new policy as whatever your pot amount should top up each year with new policy, mind you they have put some clauses in.
