This company should not offer pet insurance because of their recent policy sold to us.
Our pet dog Shadow had been insured only for a few years and was 14 this year.
I would like to warn against M&S insurance - which they said was for life. Our premium went up from £16 to £35 a month this year and on top of the excess we had to pay 35% of the claim and after all she was only 1 year older. Our dog was 14 this year so it would be difficult to go elsewhere. Unfortunately she got very poorly and had to be put to sleep last month and when we received the cheque they deducted 7 months premium from the payment as they said we had seven months to run on the policy, so they make you carry on paying the insurance when your pet is dead. I rang to question this but they said it was in the small print. Saying they only deducted it because we had made a claim and the policy was cancelled with her death. At a time when the family is devastated by the loss of their pet, this company know how to cash in on people wanting to do their best for their pet. I asked who would think of adding this clause to a policy that made you pay the full year's premium even after your pet was dead but was told I should have read the policy properly. Please think twice before choosing M&S or better still do not trust them with your insurance. NB I had to rate them to post this review but it should be 0 out of 5

my cat died recently and although i have no complaints about customer service i was disgusted to find out that i did not actually take out pet insurance i took out a loan.this fact is conveniently hidden in their rules and regulations.the brochure in front of me says PET insurance and makes no mention of having to pay the full years premium in the event of death.have m&s never heard of insurable interest which states you can only insure something you actually own or have some form of interest in ...

i insured my pet through marks and spencer even though i could have saved money going elsewhwre.my dog had to have an operation for ectopic celiac and m and s would not honour the claim as they stated that he shown signs of the illness within 2 weeks of me making taking out the policy.12 days after taking out the policy my dog contracted conjuctivitis.m and s said that this was related to his condition so they would not pay for the operation.i am very disappointed with them

My dog had cruciate repair on her left leg which i paid for myself, some months later after taking out pet insurance with M&S her right ruptured, through trauma NOT disease. They would not cover this even though i have x rays to prove her other legs were fine..basically they cover four legged animals but only one of there legs!!! In fact if they have an illness they will not cover the same problem again regardless of where it is on the animal.

We have a nine year old Boxer and have made some vetinary claims over the past for irritant bowel problems and a small operation. Just got the renewal and it is 200% last years premium. On telephoning M&S I was told it was because of the age and breed etc. Fair enough but 200% thats one hell of an increase it is more than my car insurance. The main issue is that if you shop around and look at the policy documentation you will find that any 'Pre Existing' medical problems are not covered. So you h ...

I would not recommend M&S to anyone now. When i first took out pet insurance for our dog it cost £20 per month. He then developed Epilepsy when he was 2. Each year my policy has doubled, last year it was £64.99, had my renewal in today and the premium per month is £104.99. We can afford to pay this for our dog, but what alternative do we have!! We cannot change insurers now, admittingly they pay promptly and pay us about £100 per month for his meds, but isnt that what ...

I would not recommend M&S pet insurance to anybody. I did not realise that their cover is ANNUAL PREMIUM. Unlike other companies which are monthly premiums. My dear dog recently died and when the payment came back from M&S to cover the vet's bills they deducted the remaining year's monthly premium from the amount, which amounted to over £330 (6 months remaining at around £55 per month). I hadn't realised that they did this and it was only when I went through the policy booklet wi ...

Marks and Spencer Pet Insurance Sucked everyone in with their zero excess offer then changed it without warning.

Anyone who owns a pet with an existing conditions is royally stuffed.

Premium has this year gone from £24 per month to £48.

    1. Guest on 6th May 2009 My premium last year for my 3 year old labrador was £179. This year (now he's four) its £251. When I rang Marks and Spencer and asked why the pet insurance premium had gone up 40% in a credit crunch year when people are struggling to make ends meet , getting no interest on their savings, being made redundant and a supposed inflation rate of -0.5 % is in force (when I had never ever claimed) , I got excuses like the cost of MRI scans (which ...

I have recently received the new details of my dog's Marks and Spencer Insurance Premium, in two years it has gone up from £.9.99 per month to £26.00.The Insurance runs out in April, and on reading the policy ( I am about to make a claim), if my dog needs further treatment for the same condition in the new period on insurance I will have to pay another excess of £.70.00.p I am totally disgusted, and once I have checked that they have received my claim, I will inform no ...

I too have had my Marks and Spencer Pet Insurance renewal through, It was £12 per year when I took it out two years ago with a nil excess for my Labrador puppy. The renewal is £28 plus a £70 excess. I will not be renewing with them.

Its a shame as they were without doubt the best insurer , in fact I recommended them to family and friends. I just hope that they review their policy!

Marks and Spencer Pet Insurance were great a few years ago, one of the best policies around.

My premium has gone up from £37.99 to £73.99!! £887 per year, more than double and a half what I pay for my car Insurance.

I too was disgusted with M&S when I got my policy renewal. Despite a very small claim during last year ( £65) my 3 year old pedigree dog's cover has more than doubled. When I rang to query this I was told it was because they had changed underwriters. I was on the top cover policy, they did not offer me any alternatives and customer service staff weren't helpful. I have taken my business elsewhere. The minor problem my dog had the year before will not be covered, but then it will not ...

I feel disgusted with M and S. I swapped to them for the cover they offered and then they changed it and doubled premiums. Those of us stuck with them because we have had a claim or even just seen a vet without claiming are now going to have to either not have any insurance or pay double or treble premiums tothe ones we agreed to.Shame on them.

I too am disappointed in the way M&S have simply changed the excess levels for existing customers. They have moved from AXA to Royal Sun Alliance as their underwriters. However, for those of you out there who want the same type of cover to what you're used to - simply go directly to AXA and their dog insurance mirrors the original M&S cover - the excess is £50 (sorry still no option to remove all excesses), so at least you are getting a better deal excess wise than M&S are now offering! ...

My dog was ill and then had to be put to sleep. I pay my insurance by direct debit, my dog died at the beginning of the renewal time, when I sent my claim through they advised me that because my dog had been treated in the first month of the yearly renewal and had died I still needed to pay the full annual premium £600, they would therefore take this off my vet bill I had sent them which basically meant I owed them money which they said in the circumstances they would not ask me to pay. ...

I've been very satisfied with the ease of making a claim and with the telephone helpline. An excellent service. M&S has paid the vet directly without problem or delay for each claim I've made. They are also one of the few insurance companies which the local vet will accept this arrangement with as other companies can be slow to pay. It made a huge difference not to have to find £800 up front for my animal's care. They are also competitively priced for older animals, and cover lifetime co ...

Pet insurace policy has changed. Had no excess before, which was the reason I went with this company, now have an excess of £70, and my premium has went up even with no claims. Pathetic!

I have been with M&S pet insurance for 4yrs, today I had my new insurance through, I had 0 excess now they have put a £70 excess, plus they have took away £200 prescription food.
I did ring there office but was told its the same for every one.
I have no choice but to stay with M&S as my dog is ill and a new insurance would not cover her.
I would never recommend them again, as I think this is really unfair.

I unfortunately have claimed several times, as my Labrador has hip and elbow displasia diagnosed at 9 months old, my monthly payments were £12 in first year, the best price for cover I could find, then jumped to £22 last year which was fair enough we had claimed quite a bit, now £28 month, with £70 excess not £50 was previous my dog is only just 2 yrs old, I do not like, or feel comfortable with new underwriters and the claim form is no longer simple, very comp ...
