“Renewal Disaster”

I have been insured with Argos Pet insurance since 2011 since my Labrador Retriever was a few months old. I have the Platinum Policy which at the start cost around £19 and steadily the premiums went up by a pound or so which was fine. For 2015 it cost me £24.23 per month. “Terrible customer service ”

When I first took this policy out I got a great price for the platinum cover for 2 dogs and the service for 3 years was great..then I made a claim and my premium trebled! So I called up to say as a loyal customer was there anything they could do..they point blank refused to do anything and basically said if you not happy go elsewhere I asked if I could reduce the level of cover again I was told no! “Cheap to begin then rising y 50%+”

Took out pet cover for my cats and paid a reasonable rate. It was then increased by 50% even though we had not claimed or paid late Argos didn't want to know and said take it or go somewhere else. I had both my dog's insured with argos and found them to be reasonable and offer everything that I wanted. Unfortunately my youngest dog fell ill and after a number of visits to the vet we were eventually referred to a specialist. The specialist ran numerous tests and confirmed my dog had spondylosis. He was prescribed a large amount of medication. To cut a long story short my dog was put to sleep as the medication eventually stopped working. “Cancellation Policy rubbish”

Had a policy for our kitten and received renewal notice which showed that policy had increased in cost even though we have not claimed. Letter stated I could cancel by email which I did only to receive an email back saying that wasn't allowed any longer and I had to ring them. I responded saying the letter I had received 2 days earlier told me |I could cancel by email and I wasn't going to waste my time ringing them so that they could try and persuade me not to cancel. Have been insured since 2010 with Argos Pet Insurance, under a Platinum policy, for our labrador. We've never had to make any claims and premiums haven't risen too much. However, when it came time for renewal this year the premium had gone up from £26.61 to £40.95 per month, over 50%. I have 3 small dogs & I put in a claim for the one's leg problem and the claim was accepted but then they started telling me they had not had any information from my vets although the vets had sent it at the onset. “Increased premium by over £100 per month!”

AVOID! Been a customer for last 8 years & this year my premium has been increased by over £100pcm - they want £185 a month to insure by Springer Spaniel! The reason they give is increasing vets bills. Been forced to cancel insurance. Be very careful as the hook you in with very reasonable quotes and then each year increase the premium. This is the WORSE pet insurance ever, my dog had a recent ear infection and cost £500 in vet bills, Argos refused to pay as they said it was a ongoing condition, 2 ears infections in 11 years is NOT an ONGOING problem. If you make any sort of claim, the premium rockets. So the 'for life' cover is a joke, as if you claim, the premium is raised so high that you can't justify keeping it on! Our premium went through the roof for a very trivial claim. And when one of the dogs got a year older, her premium rocketed. Feel that they mislead you by giving you a very reasonable year 1 and then take advantage after that by over charging after that. Do not insure with Argos. After taking my money for four years for their premium policy (Platinum cover) they put my insurance up to £834 after I made a claim for annual treatment for an allergy my otherwise healthy 4 year old terrier had. Argos would not explain how this was calculated (sensitive information) and as far as I am concerned it is an unjustifiable increase. I have been with them for 4 years and only have made one claim this year now my policy is doubled and they stated it was also due to an increase in Labrador claims being received and also the claim I made, so I have just had to cancel my Platinum policy as I can no longer afford this amount.

“Ideal for cats”

We'd been with Argos for two years and whilst the premium went up the 2nd it was hardly worth a shouting about (about a tenner for the year, I think). “Very Bad For Your Financial Health!”

Do not use this company to insure your pet! My dog has been insured by them for 6 years. Initially the cost was around £20 per month. In 2010 my dog chipped his elbow, this was handled well, I had no complaints. In 2012 the underwriters changed. My policy charge was doubled!!!!! Same thing happened to me. I was quoted £830 renewal after my otherwise healthy 4 year old needed allergy treatment for a year. I am complaining to the ombudsman and then taking Argos to court. Anyone interested in joining me.

We first got pet insurance for our dog in July 2008. We went with Argos as this was the best price at the time. Unfortunately nearly six years on we are so disappointed and clearly made the wrong choice. We originally paid £28 per month, this has gone up every year since. I agree with this, my pet insurance had gone from £35 per month when I started the policy 3 years ago to £75.00 per month being charged today. The reasons given were exactly the same as the above reviewer. I have never claimed on my insurance but you get nothing for this or for being a loyal customer. Trouble is everywhere else seems to be as bad.
