Good Points: High quality service. A mutual building society.
Bad Points: Limited cash withdrawal facility.
General comments: Have had a Cheshire Building Society account for many, many years. Just a basic passbook savings account. Decided to close it. A fortnight later I was looking for investment opportunity for a large (well, large to me) sum of money. Went onto Cheshire's website and noticed they had a brilliant rate Bond over 2 years for current members only!! (oh woe is me!!) Went into a Branch and they accepted me back as a full member and received my investment as a privileged member. They said "it would have been mean not to have done so". Well, this is good old fashioned service isn't it? I had further investment sums and searched teletext and the web. Ended up going back to the Cheshire a second time as they were unbeatable for what I wanted, i.e. term bonds over 6 months and 12 months respectively.
The thing is with a lot of these BBC2 and Channel 4 text finance pages 'big interest payers' - their rates are often variable, thus they offer you a high rate to get your cash, and if you don't watch it the rate may drop after a few months. Or they include a bonus in their high rate which will expire after 6 months or a year.
I cannot comment on any other financial services offered by the Cheshire, i.e. mortgages, loans etc., as I've always dealt with TSB and Lloyds TSB all my life in these departments, but for savings the Cheshire is (currently) tops for us.
