Good Points: This game's a keeper if you like space flying missions with an RPG twist. It is a very well formulated game with a rich story and plot twist and exciting gaming arena. The voice overs are diversified and expertly done. The game comes complete with a huge array of weapons, ships and wingmen.
Bad Points: Graphic don't play a huge role other than your weapon graphics. You think there would be more stars in outerspace. And one region of space when you enter, can really slow down your game, unless you have a good video card or memory.
General comments: Tachyon: The Fringe is set in the far future, you are a star ship pilot working for a corporation that produces technology and mines resources off Europa. Instead of using a clich hyperdrive/warpdrive for long range travels, you travel around in space via tachyon gates which are huge globes of energy floating around in space that are about as big as a small ship. In this way you can "warp" to another gate travelling "vast distances in mere seconds." But on the fringe of civilized space, large corporations strike out at other colonies for newer resources. This war seems far enough not to affect you but later you'll find yourself in the middle of it through a catastrophic event.
The game has a lot of subtleties that make it an amazing game. The ability to purchase a variety of weapons and system hardware lets you customize your ships performance. Also with an energy allocater, you can shift energy from one system to another when you need it most. Halfway through you have a choice to join a lucrative and well paying carrier in Galspan corporation or a freedom force of refugees in the Bora colonies. These choices will affect your end game status.
