“This receiver is a two channel stereo unit. The 100...”

★★★★☆

written by Bob Schappert. on 09/03/2000

This receiver is a two channel stereo unit. The 100 w/pc RMS power amplifier is ample for driving most speaker requirements. The RE-10 has a line level output for powered sub-woofer(s). The front panle is simple and un-cluttered compared to many of todays receivers with digital type controls. Conventional rotary controls are used for Bass, Treble, Balance & Volume. All other functions controlled by push buttons on the front panel which is a clean, functional layout. Most important feature to me is a Loudness button for boosting Bass & Treble. This item is lacking in many integrated amps & receivers today. The overall sound quality is excellent and exceptionally clean across the entire range. I compared this unit to Marantz, McIntosh, Dennon, Yamaha and several others. I rejected the others because of a lack of a true Loudness Contour Control.Although there are 6 line level inputs the RE-10 lacks a Magnetic Phono Input. It also has an internal cooling fan which does make a slight ( although very quiet ) noise when the unit is on.After spending several months looking for new equipment to replace my 10 year old receivers, I chose the Nakamichi RE-10. I use two of them as my requirements call for multiple amplifiers in the playback system. The RE-10 is a 2 channel unit. For those requiring surround sound this unit has two similar models in the Nakamichi AV Series of receivers. The AV models are similar to the RE-10 in appearance with the additional features required for an AV Surround System.Although Nakamichi has been abscent from the UK market for a few years, it is now being distributed in the UK once again. i feel this unit is well worth considering & auditioning at an authorised Nakamichi Dealer.
