“Speedy and easy”

Applied for a joint application for a £10.000 online on Sunday night. Approved in principle. I wasn't hopeful we was going to get the loan, as it was such a lot of money. My credit rating was poor as I wasn't on the electoral role (just being updated though) my husbands was fair. The loan is for a car. Well we Received paperwork on Tuesday, asking for 6 weeks worth of bank statements. I sent them off Thursday morning. Checked my bank tonight (mon) and the funds are in my bank. Can't believe it! I am very happy with the quick turn around. The APR is a lot higher than they advertised which is frustrating, but we can understand why they bumped it up, with our credit history. All in all, they gave us a chance, and some independence as a couple.

“Got the loan I needed and I am happy”

★★★★☆

written by on 10/03/2014

I applied on the Tesco loan website 06/03/14 and I needed to borrow 7500 because I am moving home. I have recently purchased a house for the same price as I've just sold my house so I need that money to cover solicitor fees, estate agents fees and removals. Now when I did the online application I came across a bit that ask why I need the loan and I choose "setting up home" and then fully finished the application it checked my credit rating and I was approved outright. Which was their highest level of approval after that it's approved in principle. So I choose courier got the forms next day signed them sent them off. Waited for weekend to pass, then was expecting to hear something today monday and never heard anything, checked bank account and nothing was in. So I decided to call them up, spoke to a female and went through everything with her said what's happening, then she dropped the bomb!! She said "I see you've chosen setting up home" I said yes. She then put me on hold and then came back and said Tesco doesn't lend money for things like that. At this point I got annoyed saying yeah but I have been accepted out right and blah blah blah, she said if you'd put to pay off debt then I could of transfer into your account now. So I said well can we do that then because I do have credit cards to pay off too, she said that's fine but it has to get re-assessed and then send out new documents to be signed and then I'll get the loan, so at this point I was on a bit of a downer because I thought I'd have to wait another week and so on. About 2 hours later I checked my bank account and know and behold it the 7500 was in my account! So my advice to anyone is if you are setting up home don't put that reason down I think the safe bet is to always put pay off debt. Maybe the person I spoke just didn't know to much and I was entitled to the loan, but I don't really care now because I have the loan and am happy. My advice to anyone is to have an experian account or an equifax account so you can see what your credit rating is before you start applying, because I've been told if you keep trying for loans and get declined you rating goes down without you knowing it. So you could digging yourself a deeper grave. I hope this helps anyone who reads it. Thanks.

“Easy simple application process for a large loan”

★★★★☆

written by on 13/08/2013

3 weeks after we originally applied we have got the money in our account, so all in all we are happy, although process was simple but drawn out, and it took me to chase everyday to get this pushed through, however they are popular for loans at the moment so was understandable. Had the forms sent out to us by bike sent back straight away, had to chase to to get updates on this, and then the money went in, no contact to advise funds going in there, so just a note to make people aware of! All in all a happy customer!

“Quick and Simple”

Applied for 13k (change car & consolidate couple credit cards) over 42 months @ 5.1% which I didn't expect to get. I applied on line on the Saturday, received call checking details on Monday afternoon, guy told me paperwork would be in post. Docs arrived Friday but at 14.1% and asked for 1 months bank statements, thought about it and to be fair we always have issues obtaining credit due to being owed a lot of money when self employed years ago, although now joint income of 50k nett with no rent/mortgage to pay so signed and returned same day. Called them weds morning to check progress, was told it looked fine and decision would be made that afternoon and a text message would be sent informing me of the outcome. Returned home late afternoon, checked bank online and 13k richer, so all done in about 12 days. I'm happy as only debt we have now is this one, credit cards cut up, best position in years. Thankyou Tesco, still no text message though!

“very happy!”

applied for loan for new car and to refinance existing credit cards. we 8.9% for the full £25k (best we'd been quoted) Tesco were very quick, approved in principal online and had to send 1months statement which was sent on fri 19/4 and money was in account Mon 22/4 afternoon no queries or hassle. Only issue we had was with our own bank in trying to get statement as we have changed to 'paperless' statements so had to order them which took 6days and the branch refused to stamp & sign ones they can print off!

“Good rate but slow process”

★★★★☆

written by scottishsr on 05/03/2012

I initially applied for a loan online to see if I would be successful as I wanted to purchase a new car. It came back that I was, to clarify I called up to be told that even though it says that online, I had to send the paperwork back and then they would decide. I said to go ahead and send out the paperwork which took a week to arrive, I sent it back on the Friday and had the money on the Monday - only found this out by checking my bank account, no phone call to inform of this. Tesco do offer the best rate, if the loan is for something like a car where generally a deposit is put down and a purchase is not guaranteed, then this loan might not be great as it is not an instant decision. Tesco wanted me to take the loan before I even looked at cars, you can cancel it within 14 days though. Overall if you have time to do the process then the rate is worth it, I also think it would be better to do the application by phone than over the Internet.

“Recommend calling reather than online,”

★★★★☆

written by on 19/12/2011

Well to start i searched the net to see what was the best deal, and narrowed it down to Tesco's, After i decided to go ahead with an application i called tescos bank reather than going online - im still not comfortable filling so many bank details over the net... I would recommend calling before 5pm on a week day as i called on a friday night at 6pm and after all the information was proived i had to wait until monday to see if i was approved... the guy on the phone never told this me so thats one down side. I was addised that i would get a phone call on monday - but in the end i ended up calling them - I was approved at the initial rate of 6.4% I went the the total term time again and i agreed to go ahead - after two days i was sent out a document to sign and return, this was a free post service - so i signed it and returned it... after a week nothing no phone call / money in my bank... i then rang them up to see what was going on....they had not got my signed copy Bloody Royal mail has lost it. Tescos then said they would re-issue another copy to sign.. two days later i got it.. this time i sent it back next day delivary cost me £5.45 but i checked royal mails website and i was signed for. later that evening i checked me bank to see if the money was there - knowning that it could take up to 3working days - and to my supprise it was there....new car we come :) I must state that noway tescos ask to see proff of my address / last three pay slips which i thought was odd - though i was better for me as i didn;t have to hunt them out... MY TIPS Phone up. don't pay the £50 currior service the offer - send it next day your self and save £45. hope this helps someone.

“After reading so many bad reviews on Tesco Personal...”

★★★★☆

written by on 09/07/2009

After reading so many bad reviews on Tesco Personal loans i was apprehensive about applying. I applied on Thursday night, got documents through on Saturday saying the loan had been agreed in principle (although the APR was slightly higher than advertised, but still very competitive) Signed the documents and sent a bank statement that day. Called a couple of times to find out progress and spoke to helpful, british people and on Friday was told I had been approved. Money was in my bank the next day!

“I am really impressed with Tesco - I applied online...”

★★★★☆

written by on 28/02/2008

I am really impressed with Tesco - I applied online for a 10k personal loan at a very competitive rate. I had an agreement in principal in the next two days which i sent back signed. They called me and had to send me another agreement a few days later as I first time around I applied in my maiden name (I have only got married recently and all my documents are still in my maiden name) and they wanted me to apply in my married name. Four days later I had the money in my account!

I am looking to get a loan with Tesco to get all fiance into one monthly payment. I don't have very good credit as I lost my job a few years back and got into abit of a mess! I have been back working for the same company for 3 years now and paying everything I owe off but still effects my credit. Has anybody else been accepted with bad credit for a Tesco loan? As I am worried. Don't want to apply and be rejected as will obviously have another bad mark against my name. Thanks in advance

Six months ago we applied for a loan with Tesco. We were eventually turned down due to a bank charge on a bank statement. That's what they said they turned us down for anyway. Me and my husband have waited the appropriate amount of time and made sure our finances are in better shape. I did a credit check on us and came up with a 'fair' score. Do you think we stand a chance of getting accepted this time? Thanks in advance

I was thinking of applying for a £15k loan over 10 years, but before I do I just wanted to know if it was worth trying? I have a excellent credit score on Equifax of 476 but I have two credit cards and a bank loan but I just want to pay them all of so I have just one monthly payment, plus have a little cash left to pay back a family loan. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what the chance would be? I'm in full time work and earn £16k a year. Thanks for any feedback
