“Awful company - waste of time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 210Coffey on 02/10/2023

This company is terrible. Wasted so much time responding to their emails and sending in information. I have a perfect credit score, never defaulted a single payment in 27 years, have taken out loans in the past for more with banks without any issues. They sent out an email to request further information, wanted me to connect my bank to them which I did. I was then sent another email saying I hadn't done it, which was incorrect as the open banking connection was showing on my bank app. After I called Tesco, they said to ignore any emails requesting information because they don't work. Why use it if it doesn't work? Where has that information gone? After being accepted after they made a credit check, I then get rejected? When I called to ask why, I was told they couldn't tell me. I am baffled and so disappointed that they have recorded a search on my file and it's ended up this way. Never happened before. I won't go near Tesco again! Learnt my lesson. If you need a loan, go to a proper bank. 've checked all the information again, I am convinced they have made an error but they won't tell me why so it can be resolved.

“Garbage Service Garbage ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DrewHill121 on 30/11/2021

Really garbage service. Agreed in principle, send back proof In post then no contact. I had to contact them to get final decision. Waste of time and not professional. Patronising staff. I would never recommend Tesco to anybody. Absolutely rubbish they should stick to their supermarkets only..

“ABSOLUTE GARBAGE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bambo1975 on 26/08/2020

Accepted for a loan, 2 weeks later still waiting for funds, staff are clueless and patronising Sent forms in the post, no supporting information needed. Sent back promptly no communication whatsoever. Why in 2020 are they needing papers signed with the amount of technology and companies asking you to e sign online. Avoid like the plague!

“Avoid Tesco loan if you are in a hurry!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Georgia146 on 15/11/2016

Customer service is ok - sometimes long waiting! People are ok/friendly. Tesco bank simply doesn't have enough employees to deal with the amount of customers! The process is too slow - take too long for credit check and need to send the documents back by post! Oh my god. I just found out that the process was so slow. If I knew it earlier, I would definitely avoid it. It only took me one day to take out £10000 with HSBC, but with Tesco, you are talking about one month. Avoid at all cost in the future. Definitely doesn't recommend it. I regret that I didn't read the reviews before I went to Tesco.

written by Leidjames on 23/03/2016

I've has a load with Tesco for a few years now always paid on time never had a problem until I had an accident at work and was of for a few months, Tesco agreed to help me for a while by lowering the payments, but then as soon as I went back to work they would not allow me to pay pack what I owed over a payment plan but insisted that I paid the £2000 back immediately or they were going to blacklist me even though I hadn't even had a pay check yet and was struggling because I've been out of work. Thanks for your support Tesco I will never use you again.

“Loan customer for 5 years rate quoted twice that of others”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ybot1983 on 10/07/2015

10k Loan customer for 5 years after loan was coming to the end. I rang the existing loan line for a quote, usual BS about 3.9 %, real quote 9%. They sent paperwork. Out of curiosity applied to Sainsbury online not phone, same amount, quoted 5% with record as new customer. As these companies use computers rather than people, they have no loyalty so the customers dont. Also they didnt even chase for the paperwork when i didnt send it back, so they failed twice

“False advertising! Unfair decisions!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Johnmc1878 on 08/10/2014

I applied for a tesco loan to consolidate my other loan and credit cards due to the low advertised rate of 4.1%. I applied online but was told they needed extra time to consider my application and would be in touch. 4 days later I received my paperwork stating the loan had "been agreed In principal" at a rate of 11.2%!! I know rates are sometimes approved at favourable rates considering credit scores etc so I obtained my credit report. It states my credit score is excellent and I have 0 missed or late payments. I called tesco to query why they had almost tripled the advertised rate and was told they are generated by a computer and no one could explain to me why this happens, it's calculated automatically?... Really tesco? What appalling misleading service with a terrible explanation and after service! Now I have a loan offer I don't want and an added search on my credit history. If I'd have known this would be the rate on offer I would have never of applied! It's higher than the rates of the loans I'm consolidating! Waste of time... I'm furious!!!

“Tesco Loans do not deserve any stars!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Connolly406 on 30/05/2014

I applied for Tesco Loans on 18th April and was duly accepted, I was delighted as the repayments were £44 less a month than a loan I wanted to repay for my lovely new car. I waited for my paperwork, it arrived very quickly considering the Easter break, I posted it back on 25th April and awaited my money. Feeling very happy with myself, as a working mum the loan was put to the back of my mind, I had done everything I'd been asked to do. By 10th May I paid as other large installment on my original loan (Tesco money hadn't arrived at this point) but I thought they could be behind with all the bank holidays we had lately. Having worked masses if overtime lately, I felt I needed to chase up this Tesco loan, no money has appeared, no letter, no nothing. 23rd May I innocently chased up, to my surprise they responded that my application had been received, had been unexplainably missed, and had expired, so I would need to have the whole thing reprocessed. I could either have it reprocessed that day and take a chance that I would be offered the same APR and to be even accepted at all because 2 credit checks would have happened within a short period of time, or I wait for them to remove the credit search that would not happen til Wednesday, then they would reprocess. Sadly no apology, for the paperwork being missed. I begrudgingly had to wait til the next week. Sadly nobody contacted me until Thursday, it was how the shifts at the call centre fell, at this point they said for a reason out of their control the credit check had not been removed and will not be removed til the following Monday. The person who had been promising me everything that never happened was on holiday so another person from their team would come back to me on Monday. So I called back to finally speak to somebody who was going to actually do what they had promised. I finally got an apology in the form of a £20 Tesco gift voucher! Moral: Do not use Tesco loans if you want quality customer service and to be treated like a respectable human being. We have yet to see if I finally get my credit check removed!

tried to get a secured consolidation loan, but was turned down because i have too many financial commitments already, this was the reason i applied for a loan in the first place,to cut my finances down to just 1 loan.this would have saved me at least 1200 pounds per month.now i got another loan application turned down on my credit report.altuogh i have no problem getting unsecured loans. makes no sense.

“Do not trust headline APR , Misleading Advertising ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by M.Choyce on 06/02/2014

After making an application online following the headline grabbing 4.8% APR Decision came back instantly with an APR hike of 6.7%. My Experian credit score is currently 999 out of 1000 in the green excellent bracket. I would love to know who does achieve there 4.8% APR This misleading advertising needs to be investigated as the search by Tesco Bank may impact on my excellent credit rating. DO NOT TRUST THIS ADVERTISING NOR TRUST THE PROVIDER

Wanchat's Response to M.Choyce's Review

Written on: 17/02/2014

I have the same problem. They sent me confirmation pack and agreement and once i have sent back they now turned back and said they cannot offer 4.8% and can only offer 8.5% because i use the manual enter my address instead of using the post code search..ridiculous!!!

“I feel that Tesco is cheating its customers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/01/2014

Applied for a loan advertised at APR 4.8% for £14K over 3 years, it was a joint application between me and my partner (both on good salaries) and after spending few days on filling all the information required for the application we got approved (within one minute from pressing proceed) but with an APR of 8.5%! I called Tesco to complain for wasting my time and they could not give me any information as to why we got APR 8.5%. Either me or my partner aren't what they would call "risky" customers and I really believe TESCO are tricking their customers. Very disappointed, do not waste your time filling the application unless you are happy with a high APR.

Dex97's Comment

Written on: 04/02/2014

I had a similar experience. The promis in the marketing hype isn't delivered so not only was it a waste of time but I think the application for loans (even if you don't proceed) effects your credit rating. I wouldn't recommend Tesco.

“ Big APR increase on approval”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/01/2014

Really don't like how you apply for a loan with a 4.8% APR rate and then they do a credit check against you, say you've been approved for something like 7.8% APR, I didn't apply for that so it should be either a yes or a no but instead they offer a rubbish rate that goes against your credit score, thanks for that

“Still heard nothing after 6 weeks”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CookIe72 on 21/11/2013

applied for a loan with Tesco as previously they provided an excellent & effective service. However when applying this time we had to chase for a decision after a week only to be told that they had been trying to contact my husband on his mobile. He had no missed calls but we took theirnword for it! We were asked to provide 1 months bank statement which we posted the next day. My husband rang them after a further week to be told they had received the statement but they weren't sure where our application was in the process and they would call us back with an update. That was 4 weeks ago and we have heard nothing since. I am now going to send a complaint letter, asking for the application to be cancelled and for the search on my credit file to be removed. Absolute joke and would not recommend!

★☆☆☆☆

written by smurf487 on 20/11/2013

So i applied for a top up, and got knocked back. I pay on time every month and even paid my previous loan off with them before applying for a new one a year or so later. All i got in response was, dont meet criteria this time. Nothing had changed barring my income was high than before, all other expebses were exacrly the same. Aviod tesco, they mess you about and take ages to give you a response.

I am looking to get a loan with Tesco to get all fiance into one monthly payment. I don't have very good credit as I lost my job a few years back and got into abit of a mess! I have been back working for the same company for 3 years now and paying everything I owe off but still effects my credit. Has anybody else been accepted with bad credit for a Tesco loan? As I am worried. Don't want to apply and be rejected as will obviously have another bad mark against my name. Thanks in advance

Six months ago we applied for a loan with Tesco. We were eventually turned down due to a bank charge on a bank statement. That's what they said they turned us down for anyway. Me and my husband have waited the appropriate amount of time and made sure our finances are in better shape. I did a credit check on us and came up with a 'fair' score. Do you think we stand a chance of getting accepted this time? Thanks in advance

I was thinking of applying for a £15k loan over 10 years, but before I do I just wanted to know if it was worth trying? I have a excellent credit score on Equifax of 476 but I have two credit cards and a bank loan but I just want to pay them all of so I have just one monthly payment, plus have a little cash left to pay back a family loan. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what the chance would be? I'm in full time work and earn £16k a year. Thanks for any feedback
