“Excellent Service”

Written on: 06/05/2013 by AngelJC (1 review written)

I read the posted reviews on this website and they were pretty much 50/50 so I thought I would give Tesco a try and I'm glad I did. I applied to borrow £15000 over 60 months for debt consolidation. I was informed that I was approved in principle and needed to submit one month's bank statement, which I did. The money was in my account today! Bank Holiday Monday! All within a week. Well done Tesco, very speedy and professional service. (read more)

“Very Frustrating”

I applied for a loan from Tesco Bank at the beginning of April and this was agreed on principle. I supplied copies of my bank statements, then a letter from my employer as my income did not match what I had claimed - I had payrise - so I supplied a letter and a copy bank statement from the end of April showing the increased amount. I work for a Holding company and the name next to my salary on the bank statement does not match my employers name hence the employers reference. I was then... (read more)

I applied for a loan from my bank of over 20 years - Halifax. I have a good credit rating/disposable income etc and the rate I was offered by Halifax was a shocking 15.5% APR. My loan was for Home Improvements as I had recently moved at the end of last year. The Loan amount was £14k over 7 years. Applied for a top up loan on Thursday morning with Tesco and was advised that Experian could not give them a full report so check would have to be done manually!. I was then asked if I would like a 2 month payment break! The operator said not to worry about the manual check as it was happening all the time lately and that if I didn't hear anything in the next 24-48 hours I would receive my welcome pack in the post. After clearing a lot of bad debt last year (various high intrest cards and other loans) I decided to try and get a home improvement loan for a much needed new central heating system. My first application was with my own bank of 7 years, Santander. I was surprised that they even said yes to be honest, given that my credit rating was in a bad state last year with the now cleared debts. “Tesco doesn't DO WHAT THEY SAY”

Written on: 15/02/2013

We applied for Consolidation Loan as they nicely advertised : Tesco: It could be a good idea to consolidate your debt into an affordable loan. If carefully managed, a short term personal loan could help to ease your monthly financial burden. And if the interest rate of the loan is fixed, then you know what you are paying each month regardless of changes to interest rates" TOTAL RUBBISH They didn't approve our application, because we have few Credit cards, which we wanted to... “early repayment rip off”

I have just managed to pay off my loan from tesco 16 months early on a 60 month loan but found the early repayment to be very high compared to my calculations, i decided to ask a member of their loans team why it was so high, it turns out that they run their loans on high interest payments at the beggining of the loan and low at the end meaning i had already paid them most of the interest so i got a small £120 pound off the early settlement instead of £560 like i would of got with all... “TESCO LOANS ARE FRONT LOADED - UNFAIR TO CONSUMERS - AVOID”

Written on: 05/01/2013 by JennyHappensfield (1 review written)

I've just realised that the tesco loan I took out is old school front loaded. This means they collect all the interest up front so if you pay the loan off early like most people do. You will have paid a much higher interet rate! I took my £10,000 loan out 4 months ago and when I called today for a pay off figure, they told me £10,036!!!! Tesco loans are a total scam. My bank managwr told me than no-one lens like this anymore and sch practice is very unfair. Calling WatchDog on Monday. (read more)

Well, it's time Tesco finance loans are called to account. A collegue of mine, actually supported his start-up invention businesses through unsecured lending and he told me that Tesco Loans are completely misleading and just like PPI and bank charges, they will on be hld to account. He did a calculation and as a Tesco loan are front loaded, if you took out a 60 month loan and then paid it off in 18 months, you would have paid 94.1% of the interest already so no point in paying it off! If you paid off in 8 months you would be disadvantaged by over £2300! vs a conventionally calculated bank loan!! ***Do not listen to other "positive" comments from people who were simply elated they actually got their hands on the money***

“Tesco Loans Scam”

Written on: 16/12/2012 by 987-Experian (1 review written)

As my user name infers, my Experian credit Scott is 987 and my Equifax near the max as well. Tesco loans quoted me 5.7% but then asked me to pay 9.9%. I am reporting to the Financial Ombudsman. Having just looked online I have seen a few people mention that they have still had loan rejected after sending paperwork back? I was approved on line & when the paperwork arrived for signature it was confirming all that had been agreed/offered in principle on line. Some people have had their loans rejected or offered a different APR when the confirmation rate has been confirmed in writing. I can only assume that this is due to credit rating checks etc. On line it also indicates that you have to to provide id & proof earnings etc...again I can only assume that this is also requested depending on the outcome of the credit checks carried out. If you ring the call centre they will confirm if the loan has been pre-approved & simply awaiting the return of your paperwork or if there is any additional info' required.

Well good choice for you. But how about the interest rate? Did they offer good service and the loan rate in casual basis? When it comes to payday loans, looking at APR is unfair; payday advance loans only last for a couple of weeks and customers do not have a problem with the high yearly interest since it makes sense for the loan. If the lenders did not charge the rate, they would not make any cash. A pastor is trying to limit the APR of the loans, which could really hurt the industry and make the loans obsolete. “Left scratching my head.”

Written on: 09/01/2012

What a nightmare. Applied for a Tesco loan, went through the phone application, and was declined. No mortgage, perfect credit reports, 45k a year with very little outgoings and was turned down. No reason given apart from them saying that they use Experian. My Experian credit report is perfect. Now i have a search on my files which will no doubt impede me applying elsewhere. Stick to selling fruit and veg Tesco,i will go to a proper bank. (read more)

Written on: 19/12/2011

“EXTREMELY SLOW - They are reviewing app for 2 weeks now”

Written on: 16/12/2011

Its been 2 weeks and every time i call customer service, they state that my aplication is being reviewed. I also sent them back all the documents they had requested. A rate of 8.7% APR was intially principally agreed before further checks are made Atleast a decision should be made if my loan is agreed or not rather than making me wait. DONT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. Better to apply elsewhere at a slightly higher rate if you get the money soon (read more)

“Very little response - did they want our business?”

Written on: 31/10/2011 by een6rs

My wife and I put a deposit on a car last weekend (8.5k). We completed the online tesco application, at a rate of 6.3% APR. We completed it in her name, as I pay all of our bills etc with my wages. Her outgoings are therefore 0 (should have perhaps entered something for this - however it is true). So, after no approval/decline online, we got told we would receive a call. After no call, we phoned and chased, to be told the case was with the underwriters, and they would come back. Days... (read more)
