Staff at HSBC Invest Direct is not knowledgeable and give you different answers every time you call. My application for a new account had numerous delays and their platform is not well suited for options trading. However commissions is cheap for buying stocks. (read more)

I have been using HSBC Investdirect for several years. Overall it is poor. Even with InvestDirect Plus you can only invest in UK and US shares. Trading limit is low. The contracts are only saved for up to 6 months. The upside is it is safe as you require HSBC secure key, which can be cumbersome when travelling about. Overall avoid. (read more)

I love the HSBC invest direct site. It is really easy to use. I have held an act for five years. When I have needed to use the tel. service, my call was answered quickly and the operator was excellent. I am really happy to hold my investments with a strong company, with a good reputation for honesty and customer centre behaviour - thank you HSBC ! (read more)

It is almost beyond belief that one of the biggest banks in the world should run such an inept and amateurish share dealing "service". They have no idea what they are doing. They are utterly incompetent and out of their depth. In my experience dealing with this lot can seriously damage your wealth. Don't go anywhere near them. There are plenty of competent share dealing services available without having to trust you money with this lot. Avoid! P.S I only gave them a star because there was... (read more)

I trust these reviews. Maybe some people faced problems with HSBC InvestDirect. I have this account since a month or so now. I have been trading US/UK equities and the speed is great. An order gets executed the moment I place it. For people who've had orders not getting executed problems - were they trading illiquid stocks in an order-driven market? All my orders were executed the SAME SECOND. I agree the site is very very basic - it's quite funny I can't see how much I am in green or... (read more)

It's impossible to comprehend how bad this service is until you try it. The website beggars belief. The functionality is stone age compared to other platforms and seems to have been deliberately designed to make life as difficult as possible. This really is one of the most awful, amateurish websites I know of. Like some other reviewers, I only use it a retain Premier membership. HSBC please sort this out. (read more)

i opened an investdirect account when the BP macondo well incident happened and BP shares tanked. I think it took about 7 days. I transfered all my stocks and shares ISA's into the investdirect account and opened a share dealing account to. Given that i bank with HSBC i have a completely integrated platform that allows me to see all my balances between my different accounts and allows me to transfer money between them instantly. The trading platform works well 99% of the time but... (read more)

The HSBC InvestDirect service is a very basic share trading platform, with none of the functions that one would expect with a wealth management service that HSBC Premier aspires to be. It looks terrible, uses ancient technology sometimes (such as the past two days) is completely inaccessible. There is very little integration between the share service and the Premier ban accounts - even transferring money is difficult to do. The service will not let you examine statements older than 12... I have been a customer of Invest Direct since 2008 when they transferred my account from their private client service. At the end of March 2011 I received notification that that they had made a mistake in their transfer. They have taken £10,000 of shares from my wife's account and requested I buy £10,000 of shares to return to them, 30 months after their error. Some of the shares have since been sold and tax paid. We are expected to put right their full loss as a result of their mistake. If... (read more)

Since 2008, the services are still pathetic and no signs of improvement especially customer serviceds. It has been a harrowing experience in account opening which took more than 45 days, then when wanted to trade your relationship manager is never at desk. Moresoover at time of trade gets to know that Account is under suspension due to non availabiilty of financials which neither the account opening executive nor the back office thinks that it needs to be informed to the client. Absolutely... (read more)

I think they are comparatively new in the market and aggressively growing. In this phase when they are in process of changing from Il & fs to HSBC invest Direct, the things are bound to be little difficult. But when the set up is complete the focus should be more on service and being a world bank, chances are that they will defnintely improve by leaps and bounds.
My experience so far has been good however I still see more good things ahead for hsbc direct invest. cheers.......

HSBC share dealing service does not seem to be designed for trading, as between execution of order and the actual buy/sell price took ages. Which caused a higher entry price, they must look into completing trades faster otherwise I would not recommend this service to anyone planning on day trading. (read more)

I'm writing this review whilst waiting for my buy order to go through, 50 minutes so far, what a joke! The speed on HSBC Share Dealing is absolutely shocking and last week I lost 20% of my holding whilst waiting for my sell to go through. Short term traders avoid like the plague!!! (read more)

Attempting to trade using Investdirect is like trying to suck a 12oz steak through a straw. I tried using it for a week quite recently and ended up smashing my laptop monitor as the server kept crashing, whilst my stocks were crashing, whilst I tried to trade. It owes me bigtime.

Its very easy to describe HSBC Share Dealing service.....pathetic.
Having recently purchased a small holding in several companies, I decided to sell one of my holdings. Now I'm not sure how quickly investors normally expect to complete the sale of their stock but I think 10 minutes is far from acceptable. During this 10 minutes, I lost 200% on the value of my stock. It goes without saying that I will be taking my holdings elsewhere before these incompetent idiots lose me even more cash.

investdirect is not even part of hsbc - as one would think - transfer of funds between an hsbc account and the service takes 3 days minimum. the service seems overall dated and not at all useful for day trading. the helpline or even to order via phone is mostly a lengthy process of waiting even outside trading hours. that the online service brakes down a lot makes that even worse. personally i had experienced that an online order wasn't carried out at the set level and i had been double... HSBC Share Dealing is all in all - pathetic. Simply unavailable for huge amounts of time and very slow when you do get in. Not a great number of "live" share prices as well. Plus, poor on features - forget being able to set a but/set for a price beyond today as well as understainding what other people have bid at. It's now or never...

The service is terrible.
I'd be out straight away was it not for the hassle of moving self select ISA, but I'm on with it now. I've spent the last hour trying to trade without success.
Do not use tHSBC Share Dealing if you are a frequent trader, it will drive you to insanity.

HSBC Share Dealing is not very good for trading short term. It seems this was designed more for investments rather than active trading. Problems are many:
1. Randomly decides not to find a particular index
2. Slow to log on
3. Randomly takes you to a page different to one you clicked on from a direct link
4. limit orders only valid for a day
5. you cannot cancel limit orders online
6. you cannot place stop orders
7. order execution is slow
8. doesnt give you the live value of your investments

HSBC Share Dealing has terrible service. Log ins are frequently refused due to technical difficulties. It recommends you phone instead (I did so and spent 15 mins one time and 30 mins another on hold with no answer). When I do ever manage to get logged in, there's a good chance it will crash on me before I can do what I need to. (read more)

When I'm using the HSBC Share Dealing website it crashes frequently, "times out" every few minutes and is sometimes unavailable. Long time on hold when phoning. Limited number of US shares tradeable. On several occasions have wrongly claimed that NYSE listed shares are not listed or have been delisted.
Probably OK for occasional dealing in UK shares. Avoid for US shares.

Absolutely agree. I have been running after these people to close my account. They have not done that (even after filling and submitting all the documents for over 4 months) and instead still charging me fees for the account. What sort of company is this ? My suggestion : Never open an account with them.
