Do not listen to these bad reviews! They have caused their own problems by having a 100% mortgage! We have recently brought our first home using northern rock and have had absolutly no issues with them. We had an 85% mortgage fixed over 3 years and they
were.the cheapest lender and had the cheapest fees out of a list of about 30 top name lenders! If you have the deposit then go with northern rock if not then try and save more because they are well worth the extra!

I completed a mortgage with Northern Rock and had no problems! I then applied for a further advance, and this was dealt with quickly, and I had the money within 5 days.
I could not fault the service and their timescales.

After reading these reviews I can honestly say I used Northern Rock without any problems. I applied for a mortgage with Northern Rock in December (through an estate agents) and we had a decision within days, and an agreement in principal within a week. We had already found the house we wanted, so the property was valued and surveyed within a week after that. I think we received a good service because we didn't go to them directly, and we used somebody who has contact with them on a daily basis.
When we first applied we we were informed of all the different options available to us, and we received great fixed rates.
My mortgage is flexible and I can make over-payments and take holiday breaks if needed without being penalised.
Overall, I am very happy with it. Any time I have called Northern Rock I have got straight through to an adviser and dealt with over the phone. I found the mortgage documents easy to understand and in plain English rather than technical jargon.
I will definitely use them again, and I would have no problems recommending a friend.

At the moment I'm waiting for the final confirmation BUT we have a mortgage certificate. I liked the fact that Northern Rock gave me a mortgage (albeit a relitively small one of £92,500) But I am 50, I am a first time buyer, with only 1 income. Plus I wanted 100% which I got AND they gave me back £1000 against legal fees. With a fixed interest rate. Consequently the mortgage is only about £40 more than my rent (on interest only) and about £100 more than rent on repayment. Good business in my opinion

How funny. This person is still in the honeymoon period with NR. It will change. How is it fair that new customers are offered the cheap rates and the mugs who had no choice but to agree to higher rates are being robbed.
