Good Points: Easy online application
Bad Points: Horrendous customer service, promised dates on website are no guideline
General comments: Please note this applies to the Irish Tesco loans which is really Ulster Bank
We've been waiting over a month now for some sort of answer on our loan. If there has been a blocking issue on the loan we have had to call Tesco loans not vice versa. If you are in a hurry I would not even bother.
Note that I am an Irish citizen and my wife is a well paid executive from overseas.
Approx 05/01/07 - applied online to Tesco loans
Approx 08/01/2007 - Was phoned by Tesco staff 3 days later on 08/01/2007 to ask how application was going. Told them I hadn't received it
Approx 11/01/2007 received Tesco application
Approx 02/02/07 sent application back after getting together all necessary information
17/02/07 Wife was called to ask for clarification on accounts and also to fax immigration card in.
She faxed card in and has a fax receipt with OK response
02/03/07 I Call Tesco to find out status of application. He or She can't find my application and goes off, eventually they find it within a 3 minute period. Person from Tesco says that they haven't received immigration card. I ask them why haven't they called us or emailed us. They say they called once but nobody answered. I ask why didn't they email us. They say they don't have access to email.
My wife faxes immigration card again, received fax OK status and then calls Tesco loans to ensure they have received fax. Person on other end verifies they have received fax.
07/03/07 12:20pm - call to Tesco to find out status of loan. Operator couldn't find loan by application number, has difficulty finding loan application by name. Person at Tesco says that immigration card needs to be faxed in. I explain to person that we have faxed it in twice and have had someone verify they have received it. He takes my number and says that he can't find the application and ***** (whom is looking after the application) will call me back within an hour.
07/03/07 13:14 - Called Tesco as I was away from my desk and may have missed the call. Operator ***** took approximately 3 minutes to find application, couldn't find the loan and says he has to check with his colleagues. ****** answers the phone and assures me he will call back within a half hour.
This loan has not been resolved and I am very sorry for going through Tesco which I trusted that a valuable brand wouldn't let this happen to their customers.

They say Tesco is now an 'everything under one roof' kind of place, and after getting my a Tesco Car Loan I feel this to be increasingly more relevant.
I got both my insurance and my loan through this lot and I feel I have found good deals on both. To I'm not a spendthrift would be somewhat of an understatement, every penny counts here in The Valleys, so I have to make sure I find a competitive deal. Happily, Tesco have come good in that department.
Why I find the actual somewhat overprice ...
