Ok, I'm a 40yr old new to biking and am a big 18st+ and at 6'4" needed a bike to reflect my size. After some research I looked at the Yamaha WR125R, the big enduro style bike, which I really liked but was put off by the price. So for a second hand reliable learner with some size I went for the XR125L. It's not a true enduro bike, its a four stroke with a permanently restriced engine (11bhp), you'd need to buy some after market parts to increase the power. Now I'm a big fella so the... (read more)

Handling:
well its designed for onroad and off use, but i would strongly not recommend taking one for heavy off road use as the front tends to really wash-out when pushed and the suspension is VERY "splodgy"! but on the road it is really good is very smooth and handles speed well, i had 65 with a modified pipe!

very good front discs and rear drum does the job... just!

I really like this bike, keeps up with the traffic well and is good up to 50mph, and 60mph is possible but takes time. The seat is comfortable with 50+mile rides no problem.
Doesn't always go into 1st first time but this could be because it's new.
Looked at lots of reviews for 125's and initially wrote this bike off as it only has 11bhp, but this is not a problem and the bike will keep up with most 125's. And as it's a Honda it's built to last.
Would definitely recommend this bike.

Absolutely loving this bike - it's my first road legal bike and I think it's been great to learn on.
It's a brilliant ride, not a slow bike - though could do with a wee bit more poke but then again it's a 4stroke 125 so I wasn't expecting a rocket.
Crazily economical on fuel... I keep thinking I've fairly racked up the miles since I last filled the tank but when I go to the petrol station I struggle to squeeze in a fiver!
If yer thinking of buying a 125 I'd heartily reccommend the XR.

Coming back to biking after a number of years, I decided to get a Honda XR125 for a number of reasons
1: Really enjoyed the first bike I ever owned - a Yamaha DT125
2: They're cheap to buy and maintain ( £15/year road tax!)
3: My no-claims is completely gone so I need to rebuild it
Bit of a shock to the system, how gutless a 125 is. Not really a criticism of the XR in particular, just all 33BHP bikes. However, having said that, it's nippy enough off the lights, allowing you to get in front...

I have owned my Honda XR125 for about two months now and I have to say what a fantastic little bike it is. Even for tall riders like me. I ride it off road regularly and it handles great.
To fine tune it I have exchanged the bars for some Renthal Paris Dakar high bars which are wider and have less sweep which enable better control at low speed.
The 19 inch front wheel also dictates a slightly lower front end than most trail bikes, which again is great for the technical stuff.
The best thing...

I purchased the Dakar bars from intobikes.co.uk. They have a rise of 95mm. The original bars have about a 60mm rise.

There's so much to say about this motorbike, I don't know where to start.
First of all it's a Honda, and you know you've got bullet proof engine quality and reliability. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 50,000+ miles out of these things. That basically means there's not much point in buying a Honda XR125 brand new. I got mine for £1200 a year ago, and for this bike I think I got a bargain.
Secondly, is the nice seat height. I'm 6ft 3 and it's perfect! Anybody up to 6ft 5 would find...

I have owned an XR125 for nearly two years now. On the last occasion the throttle cable snapped (which I am now struggling to get covered under the "warranty").

Ultimately the choice was between this and the CBR125, but since the CBR was basically a CG dressed up to look sporty and was faired (ouch if dropped it) and consequently much more expensive to...

Honda has the rep. I own and have owned a number of Hondas, and they are good bikes, well renigeeend, well-made, durable and sensible to work on. But right now, most of my bikes are dirt bikes or dual sports, and I find that most of them are Suzukis. I didn't set out with the idea that Suzukis are better, it just turns out that they build bikes that suit my needs. They are also durable, well-finished and easy to work on.As a long-time BMW rider, I used to consider their bikes the best on the planet, and I could make a convincing case. I no longer think that is true, however. BMW makes excellent bikes, but the rest of the field has caught up; BMW's current offerings are just expensive, without being any better.A company that builds very interesting, nicely-finished bikes is KTM. They haven't yet come up with the bike of my dreams, but they have come close. If they did, I probably could not afford it.
