“Dependable Honda 100cc ”

★★★★☆

written by ikWarren18 on 28/10/2017

Bought a Honda SCV just to keep my insurance ticking over. I have been riding 1000cc sports tourers but this little scoot is fine 2 wheeled transport. Mine has only done 5,000 miles although 13 years old and on the flat will do 45mph, sometimes 50, but it goes uphill without losing much speed. So easy to service, less than a litre of oil and one spark plug. Bless it, it starts on the button even if I've left it for 6 weeks. Good little scooter, very economical, better than a 50cc 2 stroke I tried.

“18,000 on a Honda scv lead”

★★★★☆

written by ScooterHero on 15/04/2014

I have had the Honda SCV Lead for one year now and have put 18,000 extra kilometers on the clock. In all that time I had just one problem - a snapped CVT belt. Why it snapped I do not know as it was changed at 25,000 kms and the new one broke at 31000! Although I have had 85kph going downhill on a long road I find the little scooter will cruise all day happily at 60-65 kph without using oil and offering wonderful fuel consumption. It starts first time every time and I have used it every day this past year except one day when the ice was too slippery. I live in Hungary and the winters can get cold but it worked every day. This is my working bike, not a weekend hobby bike and as a workhorse it cannot be beaten. I live 50 kms from Budapest and daily trips can be a little slow at 65 kph (which is why I am changing it). Once it is in the city it is second to none. Fast away from the lights, easy to handle and park and it is the perfect city or suburban bike. The only two points I would like to improve are that it would be useful to have a sidestand to hop on and off quickly - and the underseat storage could be a bit bigger to fit an open face helmet.

“Reliable and economical”

★★★★☆

written by Biker_Bob on 18/02/2014

A good little scooter, very small and light. Acceleration is very good - it'll beat most cars away from the lights (unless they're really going for it). Top speed is not so good. Bank on a cruising speed of 45MPH maximum, the variator keeps it moving along on the hills well enough. Performance wise it's a little faster than a C90 most of the time and quite a bit faster than a C90 up the hills. Servicing is easy, screw and locknut tappets and a litre or so of 10W40 oil and you're done. Handling is pretty horrible, but then all scooters do handle very badly so I don't think it's any worse than the rest. The brakes are good enough. The seat is large and comfy and there's some underseat storage, though not enough to put a helmet. I can get waterproofs, a chain and lock and my lunch under there. In general I'd recommend it, not so good for long distances due to the top speed but I've done some longer runs on it and it's not so bad once you get in the zone.

3 months into ownership now, 2000 miles clocked up. It's a brilliant little thing. I've seen 54MPH on the clock but I stand by my previous 45MPH as the maximum cruising speed - it must be doing 7000 RPM at that and I think that's enough!

“Honda SCV100 Lead Great Runner”

★★★★☆

written by on 15/09/2012

I have had a Honda SCV100 Lead since April. I have had only 1 problem with it in that when it is a hot day the engine will stall if I stop at traffic lights. I overcome this by slightly revving the engine. Apart from this problem (not much of one with the British summer!)I have travelled over 3,000 miles both locally and on long journeys of about 150 miles without any other problems.

My SCV 100 was the first scooter I had ridden for 40 years.(Age and 750 Kawasakis are not a good mix.) Appreciated good handling and automatic drive, the perfomance was perfectly adequate for commuting and the excellent windscreen even made wet journeys bearable. 90mpg, 45mph, £15 tax and £1250 new with the screen, its a snip.
Age demands some grumpiness: The engine 'feels' weak BUT,it has been totally reliable, and it needs 12" wheels and better rear suspension to cope with the potholed cart tracks that are Britains roads.
That said, 'Brilli'

“I had my Honda Lead (SCV100) from December 2008 until...”

★★★★☆

written by on 02/11/2009

I had my Honda Lead (SCV100) from December 2008 until August 2009. Within days of purchase, the engine cut out after riding heavily over a large bump in the road and wouldn't restart. I pushed it home and as the dealer was closed over Christmas, I was without a scooter for a few days. However, as it was still under warranty the dealer arranged collection, fixed it (a loose cable) and delivered it back to me. Ironically on the day I rode it to the dealer to p/x for a Honda PS125i the speedo stopped working (probably due to another loose cable).

Main strengths:

. Easy to get on and off the centre stand;
. Fast away from traffic lights;
. Filtering ability through slow/stationary traffic;
. Flat floor handy for shopping;
. Low seat height;
. MPG;
. Purchase price.

Main weaknesses:

. Front and rear drum brakes. [NB. the Honda Lead 110 has a front disc brake].
. Insufficient space for crash helmet under the seat. [NB. the Honda Lead 110 can fit a full face lid].

I regularly commuted 5 miles from North London to Hertfordshire on 30 mph and 40 mph roads - a distance and journey the bike did well.

On one occasion I did a 100 mile round trip which included national speed limit dual carriageways. This is not what the SCV100 was designed for and it showed. I achieved a 50 mph speedo indicated top speed - woefully inadequate for a 70 mph road. However, I did get the thumbs up from bikers going past who obviously respected my bottle (or questioned my sanity!).

If you only intend to ride on roads with a speed limit of 40 mph or less, it is a good little scooter. However, if your budget allows you may want to consider the SH125i or PS125i, as they are both far superior to the SCV100.

Great fun! My Honda SCV100 Lead Lead was just a stepping stone for me before moving onto a 750 cc bike.

In the 9 months I had it, it covered over 10,000 miles.

It cost me £1150 new (well, pre-reg) a good £500 cheaper than some 50cc's I'd been looking at. Very cheap to run I averaged about 110 MPG (and I'm fat!)

Acceleration on it was impressive, although, I'd reccomend taking it easy, mine ate it''s first rear tyre after only 3,000 miles, after that I learnt to refrain from full throttle starts at the traffic lights, and the 2nd tyre was still good after a further 7,000 when I traded it in.

Loved going out on it at weekends and covering a few hundred miles, taking plenty of breaks tho, small wheels + country roads = sore bottom! My only real problem was with the size of the fuel tank, but a jerry can bungeed to the pillion grab rail did the job for longer trips.

Very easy and quick to service. I've seen some scooters and cheap bikes that after 6 months of light use are covered with rust, not with the lead, 9 months of hard riding in all weather conditions, stored outside with no shelter, not a spot anywhere on it (and it didnt get cleaned very often).

My verdict: For commuting and short journeys, brilliant, can't fault it. For cross country runs, buy a cruiser or touring bike, not a scooter!

Saw my Honda lead scv100 in local paper, went , rode, bought ,2005, 1900 miles £525 cash. now using for work 4.5 miles each way. bit down on power compared to my cb 1300 but loads of fun, also wanted a scoot to go in back of camper, looks cool in red super quite so neigbour friendly, 6.20 am is not the time for 2 strokes, did that 20 odd years ago, and it's a Honda,

Was all set to ride my lovely new Honda SCV100 Lead to work for the first time, just did my CBT. However, I noticed there was a fair amount of leakage, (appeared to be coolant), got the breakdown guy to have a look and needless to say, my wee bike is going back to get fixed. Im a bit disapointed.

it's an air cooled engine the scv100 and brake cables so the leak can only be oil or petrol

I have had my scooter for 3 years now and it has saved me a fortune on fuel costs and having to buy a second car.
I get about 91 mpg some of the comments say you can get up to 115 mpg I am trying to ride conservatively but I cannot get any more than that. Any way love riding this scooter no regrets about changing from a car to get to work.

“Recently, just before its annual service, a whole lot...”

written by steveostler on 08/06/2008

Recently, just before its annual service, a whole lot of things needed doing. Most seriously, one of the engine mounting rings had cracked. This only came to light when the bike had been stripped down and could have been a major safety hazard. Welding it up proved tricky but was successful. If this had not been possible the bike would have been a write-off. The clutch was also found to be worn - thanks to this and the engine mount, no wonder a judder was beginning to become evident on take up of the drive, particularly when cold. The speedo cable also failed at this time. Despite the recent problems I am really very fond of this scooter and had no second thoughts in laying out the considerable expense for repair.

Great bike. I live in Australia and have had mine for 3 months, riding it 50km each day to work, out of interest I took it through a local mountain range on the weekend, a regular ride for bigger bikes and it coped with the 200km trip in 40+C weather fine.

I've been driving the Honda Lead for 4 years, summer and winter. Never had any problems at all. With a passenger or speeds above 80 km/h you would feel more comfortable with 2 or 3 more hps. Very good value for money!

I love my Honda SCV100 Lead bike I have had it for about 2 months now it gets me to college and is able to keep up with the traffic mine goes a max speed of 55mph I also like the design its not to sporty or to retro is a very casual bike I would recommend to anyone. I think that this is a great bike to get around from A to B but this bike will not be good if you are planning to leave it untended because security on this bike is not very good I have also read the comments about the speed is slow this is because the bike is 100cc and its not build for speed its built for practicality.

written by passand on 06/09/2006

The Honda SCV100 Lead is great around town where I don't have to go over 60kmph, but totally inadequate (and dangerous) in any area with a higher speed. Where I live, people in vehicles don't take too kindly to either anything on two wheels or anything traveling slower than themselves. Drum brakes are fine for the speed that you will be able to travel. Talked to the agents re-derestricting but they weren't familiar with the term. This might improve performance somewhat, as it probably only needs another 25kmph. I will probably trade up to one of the new Suzuki 125ccs with injection. May be able to keep ahead of those speeding SUVs!

Great for any areas that you don't need to go over 70kmph. Well built and handles equally well.

This also happens to me and tends to be when it's a cold day and when I haven't let her warm up properly. Also she does it when she's been idle for a while. I took her to Honda as she's under warranty and although it helped the problem it did not fix it completely, I found constantly revving her at the traffic lights works well or when the revs are dropping low. Usually one good rev does it's job but there's times when you just need to rev quite a few times.
Overall I think she's a good little scooter, runs well but I just don't like the look from behind and the excitement factor has run a little dry for me after 5.5 months of ownership so hoping to trade in for a Honda VT125c Shadow :)

I have had a Honda lead for 6 months. I find it adequate for town rides. But I find it useless on hills & outside of town. In my view it is almost dangerous, because the traffic is always right up your rear end.

I would have preferred it if there was a bit more power. I am going to trade it in for a 125cc Dylan or similar as soon as possible.

I just bought a Honda SCV100 Lead one week ago. I live 10 miles away from downtown in Buenos Aires, and a scooter seemed to be the solution to our rush hour traffic. I can say that I'm pretty happy with the purchase... low cost scooter, reliable brand, good fuel economy, and its size goes great in the city, where you'll need to dodge cars all the way. I went from a SUV to my Lead, and for my everyday journey to downtown it has been the solution.

Two things I would change on this bike: 1) The brakes are not powerful enough, and 2) 25 cm3 extra would be a good difference in terms of power.

Mine was 7 years old with 14000 miles, I paid £550 for it. I've seen them for £500 with upwards of 25000 on the clock, but I'd buy one with less than 20000 given the choice.
