Good Points: I have listed on Monster for the last 5 years. The only roles I have ever received have been from short term roles alone. The job boards are great to present your candidacy, but I wonder why it is only agents, rather than direct employers, who respond to the applications. The two main candidate boards, Career Builder and Monster, seem to share our contact info with useless advertisers. I get mostly emails for what is NOT part of my profession or to sell me a phony part-time transfer agent (money launderer) role than anything worthy of consideration.
Bad Points: At least 90% of "direct hire" postings have not as far as I am aware ever contact me - except of course, for the meaningless automated initial submittal confirmation that states the redundant "if your qualifications.....", and you know, that your expertise already matches..The common contacts received are more junk email selling something as far as I am concerned from my experience.
General comments: I do not think my concern for these main job boards is without merit. It seems that companies are more particular of your race and sex (by consistently "requiring" the EEO questions in the application. It doesn't matter whether you choose to answer or not - we are forced to select to identify ourselves. If we truly are not chosen based on these characteristics, then why are we forced to reply to the questions?Note: if you choose to decline self-identification, one certainly will not be considered. If you self-identify and the company's only aim is to fill a diversity quota - your chances of fitting that hidden agenda are also slim to none as far as I am concerned from my experience. My summation is simple - regulators need to prohibit this internet-based discrimination as far as I am concerned therefore I do not recommend Monster.com.

I posted my CV and within a couple of days I had 4 interviews arranged, all for jobs appropriate to my skills. By the end of the process I had 6 job offers, all at a salary at least 10k higher than I was on! I loved the experience, as it was a great confidence boost. Yes, most of the calls you get are from agencies, so you don't get all the jobs that are out there, but the Monster job site is a great addition to your job search 'toolkit'.

I found my current excellent job through them, and I would recommend them to anyone. The web site is easy to use, and there are lots of job postings, although there are too many jobs, but that's also a good point.

I have had my details on the Monster job site for over ten years, and in that time I have had no more than a handful of calls from recruiters. I did review jobs on their sites, but I rarely found roles that suited my skills and needs.

I have received some thirty odd calls from people who saw my CV on the Monster job site. Not one of them has actually been a prospective employer. All contacts have been from agencies trawling through for candidates. Unfortunately, none of the agencies have talked to me about jobs which are commensurate with either my skills or experience. It is useful to get your CV out there and if you are just starting out, as it may be of benefit to reach a wider audience than you originally thought of, b ...

Monster www.monster.com - I'm a careers adviser and when training clients to use jobsearch sites (yes it does need to be done!) I always go to Monster first as the least daunting and most attractively laid out.
Not nearly as many Scottish jobs or entry level jobs as other websites though.
