“BANK CHARGES”

They always take bank charges etc from your account at the right time to cause you to become overdrawn. They say they don't do it on purpose, but it's strange that it's always done at the worse time for you. I did have a helpful person on the telephone who got my large bank charge refunded as I had no money in my account for food until pay day in two weeks time, but I think that was only done because these days banks HAVE to help if you're struggling. “Hardly Sympathetic Bunch of Clowns”

Been with this shower for 32 years, since they were the Midland Bank. Went £1.32 overdrawn for 3 days and they wanted £50 bank charges !!! Discussed this with a mindless automaton whose English was infantile and he said I should be grateful that he had halved this to £25. Tried to extend loan recently and was passed from India to USA (judging by accents). Was then told I didn't meet their criteria and that my incomings weren't enough. “A refreshingly understanding and sympathetic approach.”

Having been an HSBC current accoutn customer for almost 20 years at HSBC, where I have a Prime account, I recently went over my ovredraft limit to the tune of around £250. This was the result of being self employed, and having been unable to work for six weeks, following a heart attack, which at the time I of course didn;t tell the bank about. “Horribly Sour Banking Corporation”

HSBC run a share dealing service under banner "Invest Direct". It is a poor service. My most recent misfortune was that when I rang to cancel a trade order they couldn't find my account then there system suffered a technical failure and when i finally got passed on to a second agent after being put on hold three times, my order could not be cancelled. By reading the the title I'm sure you are scratching your head to know w.t.f. that means same thing happened to me too. I opened a corporate account in this bank and got activation confirmation in 20 days but when I went there to deposit salary check they said that this account was closed 1 year ago because it went below the limit. “Never thought of bank issues until now!!!”

I never really had an issue with HSBC up until I went to Australia. I am guilty of going with "the name you know" from home, but let me tell you about these idiots. To start off, everytime you call them to try and ask a simple question you get interrogated with at least 7 identification questions, by the time the lady asked me what my passport ID number was i thought someone was pulling a joke on me. “Never Again”

I'm had nothing but problems with this bank. I chose them because I love travelling and they are supposed to be a global bank. 

Well actually when you are abroad and go into another HSBC, you might as well be going into any other bank. 

They can't do anything for you except tell you to call your bank back home. I once went to Peru and they decided to block my card. No email, no text message, when I called them, they expected me to wait 24 hours to unblock it! A real joke!

I can't even begin to describe how bad this bank is without going in full rage and smashing my laptop. Everything about them is bad. “Worst bank experience”

I've moved to the UK from the US and have had the worst experience with HSBC compared to any other banking experience of my life. I don't even know where to begin. They've been completely unable to issue us a debit card and pin that match; in fact, we've received FOUR debit cards (1 to NY, 1 to London, and 2 to our local branch). I have been with HSBC/Midland bank for 30 years.I have had loans from them charged at lot higher rates than advertised.I had PPI claim rejected only to win it via ombudsman.After 2 years they offer me a bare mininum,with no goodwill for infinite calls,letters etc.Everytime i call HSBC i get through to someone who i can hardly understand and the matter is just passed onto another department.This bank shows absolutely no loyalty to its customers at all.Yes i will be taking my business to another… Read Full Review

“Just dreadful! - closing all of my accounts with them”

Tried to get a small mortgage with them. I have a 70% deposit, so only need a small sum - and although I meet all of the normal lending criteria they kept throwing more requests at me to deliver documents which don't exist and therefore could not deliver. Then - for the documents I did send - they lost half of them!! - They had no regard for any of my personal confidential information and that these lost documents (in the post apparently!) could be fraudulently used against me. “Re Mortgage Hell”

Getting divorced, need to change Mortgage into one name from joint with ex wife? Seriously do not waste your time explaining to HSBC. They point blank refuse even though LTV good, salary more than required and interest rates low. They give numerous reasons which can be proven unfounded, but still hold firm. We have had accounts with this bank since long before they were HSBC, I must admit they are constantly proving themselves to be 'not very customer focused' unless they are trying to 'sell' you a loan or credit card. Looking for a half decent bank to move to.

“HSBC Nightmare”

On the 1st/2nd of April HSBC closed our company bank account in error, that is to say it was closed without any request from us and or our bank manager. Initially this meant that several thousands of our money disappeared for 3 days and some of our suppliers went unpaid. On the 2nd of April the call centre at HSBC refused to help, claiming our bank manager requested the account be closed. Our bank manager denies she asked to have the account closed. “HSBC customer service is going down!”
