Really difficult bank to have an account with. Cancelled and renewed my card 1 year before its expiry and didnt bother telling me. Changed the pin as well making the card unusable abroad where I was at the time. Nothing but problems with them!… Read Full Review

“Extortionate”

Having had a 20 year mortgage with BoS for 18 years I was trying to make plans for life after redemption. I increased my payments until this year (2014) when I asked BoS for a 2 year extension. Unbelievably they came up with a calculation which charged an interest rate of almost 50% over the 2 years! It just goes to show that any loyalty a customer might ever have felt for the bank is NEVER returned. “Terrible Banking”

do not expect to get any help if they screw you about. customer servise agent 90% have attitude problems.complaint WILL take months to get resolved if they even do, majority of the time they forget you have even logged a complaint. excessive charges as well even for a student account. this is a shame as there are a few agents who work for them who will go above and beond, they'r just few and far between… Read Full Review

“portobello edinburgh branch dreadful ”

I am from Bulgaria and came to Scotland to work.I opened an account with them in Portobello and was told my account would be up and running in a day or two. I was also told to bring my letter confirming my national insurance number when I got it. I deposited almost 3'000 pounds.I got my card and pin and card later and tried to withdraw cash but they had put a block on it.I had no money for food or rent. I may as well start with the the good points since i have so many bad things to say.. oh wait there aren't any. When you enter the bank of scotland they make you wait in a huge queue while 2 out of the 10 tills have staff on. while staff are just dotted about the bank floor cahtting to each other. bank related topics? hell no. hearing the faint whispers of last weekends drinking session then an array of fake laughter from employees wishing they were anywhere else. it made the customer service… Read Full Review

“Poor telephone services”

I lost my debit card so phoned bank of scotland. They forwarded me to a Lloyds call centre who said they couldnt help (because its a different bank). I had to phone back and was eventually helped. The man cancelled my card and said he would send a new pin. a new pin was not sent but instead a new telephone security number (which was not requested). Theyhave also tried to sell me a credit card over the phone for halifax which it turns out I cant aplly for over the phone. I have to apply online… Read Full Review

“terrible customer service”

Dreadful bank, do not, I repeat do not take out an account or credit card with them. I was a victim of identity theft steming from a cheque book being sent to wrong address which I had tried to change with the bank 3 times. They could not care less that this person was opening other accounts under my name with this chequebook and I was having a huge hassle with this. “Useless”

I need a commercial mortgage and I am in the process of approaching a number of banks. BOS are advertising to the world they are lending to Small businesses. I contacted BOS for an appointment and firstly was told someone would get in touch with me in 48 hrs. Didn't happen. I then phoned again and was sent from pillar to post, spending yonks waiting on the phone. “Complete Shambles of a "bank"”

I had the not-so-well named Ultimate Reward Account. I was a customer of theirs for a few years and unfortunately had some issues with my pay this year, through no fault of my own. This meant I had to make use of the overdraft service provided by the account, which I have never had to do before. It is unfair to comment on "the staff" in a general term you had a problem with one or two branches but there are hundreds of branches, i have never had any problems with staff when i have went into the branch and needed help or asked for something.

“BOS - Peebles, Scotland”

So far so good! everything from the fantastic staff to the advice has been brilliant! We had lived overseas for 13 years, on our return to the UK, no-one would entertain opening a bank account for us despite the 6 figure sum we had to deposit. However BOS were more than willing to accomodate us and even provide us with a mortgage, again, no other bank was willing to do this, as we had lost our top rated credit rating having left the country for such a long period of time. “online business banking ”

RUBBISH RUBBISH RUBBISH.... all i want to do is pay two new bills. having been forced to wait 60 minutes - obviously too much work for the bos folk, before i can proceed with actually paying these bills... then entering practically all the account numbers and amounts - get locked out as the data wasn't correct? “BoS LOST my mortgage payments!”

I took out a mortgage with BoS and kept up to date with my payments through direct debit. I then became self employed and asked the bank if I could pay my installments in cash monthly. They agreed and gave me the sort code, account number and reference number for the payments to be made to. I duly presented these at the counter every month, however the idiotic staff at Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs branches DID NOT put in the reference numbers, so my payments went into the funds in their group… Read Full Review

I have had alot of terrible customer services in this bank including phoned up for new card last week as it was lost...when on the phone they asked would you like me to change pin i said no got the card in Saturday when bank was closed went down to machine to withdraw some money and the card was saying wrong pin then called to find out they had changed my pin when i clearly said not to on top of that they said they new pin gets sent out separately for security reasons so u cant withdraw any… Read Full Review

I have also had this problem although when i questioned them i was told that due to procedures as it is a lost card a new pin is automatically generated. I believe all banks now send a pin a few days later in order to stop it getting into the hands of the wrong person.

“Possibly the worst bank ever”

I have been a business account holder with Bank of Scotland now for 4 years. I have over 100K in funds split into two accounts, a euro account and a stirling account. The reason why I say this bank is terrible are: - it took them 6 months to open a Euro account - after almost 12 months I am still unable to operate that account online as every time they send me a form to sign but then realise they had forgotten to send me another form (I am not kidding!) - I don't have a dedicated business… Read Full Review
