“worst customer service ever”

Written on: 07/08/2014 by Brennanx16 (1 review written)

I was unfortunate enough to go into addlestone branch to pay a couple of bills when I was served by a woman who I believe lacked customer service. she grilled me for some time about did i have an account with them. I explained I did whereby she informed me that my account had been closed by their branch without even letting us know about this. I never got her name but she had long ginger hair about thirty years old. She suggested that I could pay one bill there but go elsewhere with the other… Read Full Review

“Having been phoned by fraud department who made some...”

Written on: 06/08/2014 by Odinl274 (1 review written)

Having been phoned by fraud department who made some enquiries regarding recent transaction I had to answer some security questions first - That's fine and understandable even if they phoned me! Well we got through where I was born, which branch I opened the account with, did I have any other accounts, all straigh forward questions - then we came to 'what did you spend in a book store in June' (two month ago!) well I could really not remember but I said it was probably a book, okay we will try… Read Full Review

“Completely Incompetent”

Written on: 18/07/2014 by Rachel_Pierson (1 review written)

I've been a Barclays business banking customer for over five years. In that time I've had my time wasted by their useless Indian call centre several times. The most recent experience went as follows: * Had trouble on June 13th with an Amazon marketplace vendor deliberately failing to process a return and refund for a faulty item. Amazon's A to Z "Guarantee" proved useless, so I used the safety net of making a Chargeback claim, as I'd paid for the item using my Barclays Visa Debit Card. * On… Read Full Review

“no cashier service”

Written on: 05/07/2014 by Jaylynj130 (1 review written)

We have banked with Barclay's for many years however customer service has declined sharply since all the cashier services were withdrawn at Worcester branch. We now have to use a machine or for some items wait for a personal banker. I wanted to set up a bill payment and was told I must see a personal banker to set up. I had to wait 30 mins, then the personal banker told me I could have set it up on the machine!! Whilst waiting I saw several customers come in, wait around looking perplexed as no… Read Full Review

“Worst bank ever?”

Written on: 27/06/2014 by Reilly299 (1 review written)

3 days to make a transfer from my Barclays account to my other bank - Their phone banking 0845 number always get you back to a call center in India where a very nice chap keep asking you if you had a good day - the answer is ...surprise.... no - my money is still not transfered - You try to call back the fraud line number (who contacted you in the first place) to ask information about your money - no one bothers to pick up the phone - You try to call to complain - a lady with an icy voice tells… Read Full Review

“Call center sucks”

Written on: 26/06/2014 by RobertoNichols (1 review written)

Is this call center outsourced?Second time trying to get help, first time I just wanted to know why something did not go through, not have to answer millions of questions about my account which were irrelevant. Useless. This time signing up for online banking, computer will not accept my double barreled surname, says wrong format. 11 minutes 10 second of listening to tinned music and blurb feels like a lifetime. Are they getting the cost per minute for these calls? I am sure being charged… Read Full Review

“Probably The Worst Customer Service Ever”

Written on: 25/06/2014 by maggien (1 review written)

I am rendered speechless once again over the customer service I have had from Barclays. I have had several issues with them over the past years - some complaints have never been dealt with despite promises to call back. The latest one is that Barclays closed one of my acoounts for almost 2 years, saying that it was a current account that hadn't been used - this was completely untrue as it was never set up as a current account, and if they had had looked at my accounts they would have realised… Read Full Review

“Absolute rubbish customer service and overdraft charges”

Written on: 17/06/2014 by karenb1304 (1 review written)

I have had a Barclays account for years and an overdraft. They have now scrapped interest on your overdraft and now charge 75p per day. That is outrageous. That's £273.75 per year !!!! its ridiculous .So today I paid off my extortionate overdraft and ask for the account to be closed( I waited 20 mins in branch as they only had 3 staff on at dinner time) only to be told the counter staff (who can open your account cant close it. Barclays get your act together. Your banking charges are… Read Full Review

“Dreadful”

Written on: 04/05/2014 by Steele322 (1 review written)

Terrible customer service, and very grasping. For example: - Barclays on-line will let you apply for a top-up to your Barclayloan, but not pay your loan off. So they are making paying off a loan more difficult because they want to keep charging you interest. - their rates and charges for international transfers are ridiculous: today they are offering $1.62 dollars on the pound when the rate is 1.69, and they charge UKP25 (yes, 25) for an on-line transfer. - desperate attempts to get you to… Read Full Review

“Barclays mortgage insurance”

Written on: 13/04/2014 by Gary_Cruise (1 review written)

I will STRONGLY advise about anybody thinking of taking or using Barclay's Mortgage Care.. if you ever need it..(and God forbid), Barclay's will jump through every hoop they can find to AVOID paying you.. We all have this type if insurance hoping never to need it. but if you ever do, the last thing you need is a major battle on your hands to rightfully claim what you have been paying premiums for years for. Even as a customer of 40 years does not seem to count as any form of loyalty. Barclays… Read Full Review

“Fraud Dept is a Joke”

Written on: 27/02/2014 by jmMcBride309 (1 review written)

Told today that they block all card transactions if the company is in America by default. Nightmare when purchasing anything online as it will not go through and the website obviously does not accept the payment, you then get a text from Barclays 10 minutes later asking you to approve the payment or report it as fraud. Since you don't want to send the payment now as the website has no way of tying it ot your purchase, you reply No. Barclays then lock your card and you have to spend 20 minutes… Read Full Review

Hi there,

We can assure you it’s never our intention to cause you any inconvenience. If your card is deemed at risk, a declined response will be issued to protect you from potential card fraud. Although you, the cardholder make regular payments which may not seem out of the ordinary, the system does not review account activity on an individual basis, with the view to look for continuity or specific changes in your spending habits. The emphasis is very much on whether spending falls within the certain criteria of activity that has established links known to card fraud.

It is however regrettable to hear about your experience when calling us. If you would like to record this as an official complaint, please visit the Barclays website, where you’ll find details on how to do this.

“After all these years!”

Written on: 26/02/2014

I am sixty seven years old and in all my life I have never had an overdraft or caused any problems at all with any bank. When I was a mature student in the eighties, I believed that Barclays was no longer involved in dodgy political regimes and transferred my business to them. Unfortunately, I have had two major issues with them. The first was when they allowed a fraudster to remove money consistently from my account and were threatening and generally difficult. Only when I suggested leaving… Read Full Review

I am older than you friend and has an account with Barclays since 1968, Throughout I have never defualted in any of my dealings. I did NOt asked for loan or morgage or any of the bankning services that fill their website. Nor have I any overdraft at any time in these in these 43 years. I always maintained a very healthy positive babalnce. Like hundreds of Barclays custors I received a nasty letter that my account will be closed in two months time. I was distressed and when I phoned to ask for any specific reason. Their man (Scot) said that this a strategic decision. Nice loaded word (strategic) that, to me, means nothing. i.e. WE closed your account because we want to close it !!! Such barbaric behavior is alien to any public service offered in a civilized country. I am Americam and if this would happen across the Atlantic the court would makeof me a very rich man!!!!

“International Banking”

Written on: 11/02/2014

After 21 years as a Barclay customer Im given two months notice to move all of my accounts (or else) to another banks as Barclays will no longer do business with a customer based through work in Azerbaijan. Apparently Barclays have decided at fairly short notice to provide customers service only to 70 approved countries/markets in the world. If you are not on the list you are cut whatever your customer record has been. On phoning the recommended help line I'm told its "not personal"… Read Full Review

Hi there,

In September 2013, Barclays announced Wealth and Investment Management’s new strategy and our intention to build on our strengths, only compete where we can win and to simplify the way we do business. At that time, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management announced a new approach to reduce the number of countries from which we accept new clients, meaning that going forward, we will be focusing on 70 markets globally.

In Azerbaijan, we will no longer accept new clients nor provide all our wealth and investment management services to existing clients. For clarity, this decision will impact clients resident in Azerbaijan.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by this. For further information about the changes we are making, please contact Barclays Wealth and Investment Management via your online banking service or via your relationship manager.

“Won't unblock my business debit card!”

Written on: 06/02/2014 by danielrhodes (1 review written)

My business debit card was blocked after I attempted an unusually large purchase. So I did the whole routine of phoning the fraud team, passing their security questions and confirming the purchase. I was then told that the card had been unblocked, wait 5 minutes and I could use it again. I waited for an hour just to be sure, but no, it still didn't work. I phoned fraud team again, cleared security and was told - again - that the card had been unblocked and would be useable after 5 minutes… Read Full Review

We take our customer security very seriously, which is why we have these security measures in place. However, we can understand your frustration over the service you’ve received following your debit card being blocked; this is certainly not the inconvenience we look to put our customers through, so we do apologise for this. I appreciate it’s been some time since you posted, but if you’re still looking to log a complaint with us or require any further assistance, you can email us. What a pathetic weasel-worded non-apology. No wonder Barclays came last in a poll of the customers of 70 banks last year, behind even the likes of RBS and HBOS.

If you spent less time making lame excuses for your obviously-broken processes, and more time on actual customer service, maybe you wouldn't have a wall of reviews with one star on this very site. Or are all of us customers that are on here complaining about your lack of competence wrong about you, and you alone are right? I know which most people reading this will think is most likely.
