barclays customer service is very poor indeed the info they give is very conflicting towards its customers when you telephone them up i have contacted them to get info if they can recommend other UK banks that offer UK based call centres and the staff can understand accents very poor indeed if you can stay away from them then please do so they do not offer a good customer service at all… Read Full Review

“3 years of loyal customer and treatment from India. ”

Basically 3 years of banking with Barclays ended with treatment from India. Barclays Bank is in unity with a local  agent to take hundreds of pounds from general public, me, as the customer of mortgage application. Credit card declined Mortgage declined and reason is never mentioned. ISA savings account declined by rude people of a country. That is the most horrible bank I have ever been with! Don't u even think about opening account there! I have been left without my card and pin for 3 WEEKS NOW!!!gave my money and my card for boyfriend,to pay the money in (only),as I am working a lot.they locked the card,and nobody ordered new one.one week later,on my day off,had to go and ask them for new card.yes,they did order.and send new card,with pin,and few thousand pounds in,for my previous adress!! My son has had fraudulent activity on bank account for weeks, he has constantly called 'Customer Services' who are absolutely useless! They claim he asked them to send him a new card, he did not, they text him to say contact them because of fraudulent activity on your account, he calls they tell him to 'ignore the message' but block his account anyway. “Avoid Barclays At All Cost!”

I currently have a Career Development Loan with Barclays, I took it out last year (2013) and was told at the time of applying for the loan that if I needed extra time, due to unforeseen delays, that I could apply to delay the start of the repayments and that this would not be a problem. It was understood that this was quite common place and there would not be any issue with doing so. What a joke! I closed all my accounts with them due to mistakes and bad customer service and glad I did as I hear now you can't see a person it's all done by machine. I can't understand why anyone stays with any company who they are not happy with, just move and if enough people do then maybe these companies will start to understand. Misplaced my debit card, visited local branch in a big town and no cashier points to report it to just machines...try talking to a machine without said card!! I simply wanted to report it lost and take out some money via cheque...the only means was to speak to a "12 year old" with an i-pad who pointed me to a phone. Over half the time there is usually a hitch with either the online or mobile app banking. And over 87% of the time when you get through to the customer service and averagely 7.35 minutes later, not only are you taken through security questions of which a third of is absolutely unnecessary and way over the top to stressing "security", you shockingly discover not only do they not understand your problem, they also place you on hold to coming back in telling you "sorry I can't help" like that… Read Full Review

I used my card abroad but it said I had insufficient balance. Eventually getting through to customer service (outsourced to india) they kept telling me to use a different bank and different machine. I gave up and had to get western union transfers to get money and then 2 weeks later I found that I had £1800 taken from my account where I had been trying but didn't receive the money. I have just queued in the local branch for 25 minutes and when I expressed my frustration to the cashier she said that no amount of moaning would increase the amount of staff on the counters as Barclays was moving towards everything being done electronically by the customer. What a terible experience going into a Barclays branch. I have caled in to Lord Street, Liverpool several times in the last 2 days to use a machine that is supposed to make things easier for me. Every time that I have been in, the machines are either not working or faulty and trying to get a member of staff to help is hopeless. I was unfortunate enough to go into addlestone branch to pay a couple of bills when I was served by a woman who I believe lacked customer service. she grilled me for some time about did i have an account with them. I've been a Barclays business banking customer for over five years. In that time I've had my time wasted by their useless Indian call centre several times. The most recent experience went as follows: * Had trouble on June 13th with an Amazon marketplace vendor deliberately failing to process a return and refund for a faulty item. We have banked with Barclay's for many years however customer service has declined sharply since all the cashier services were withdrawn at Worcester branch. We now have to use a machine or for some items wait for a personal banker. I wanted to set up a bill payment and was told I must see a personal banker to set up.
