“Bad service, no customer support”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KKolar on 20/09/2023

I used Hotmail (now called Outlook) for many years with very few issues, but recently that changed. For the last few months they have been putting messages that I want to receive into the deleted folder before I read them. These include emails I subscribed to receive, messages from my family & friends (who are in my address book), and even bank statements & bills from utility companies. I tried marking them as "safe senders" but that didn't work. I moved them from the deleted folder to the junk folder, then clicked on "mark as not junk", but that didn't work either. Meanwhile, they have allowed unlimited spam to flood my email, including many going right into my inbox instead of the junk mail folder. Creating rules did no good, and after a while they disabled that feature on me. Forwarding the spam they put in my inbox to Outlook customer service did no good (and I forwarded hundreds of them). Asking what they were doing in the "send feedback" thing did no good, and was met with silence even though I kept telling them I wanted them to contact me. Even when I asked if their people were too stupid to know the difference between spam & subscriptions, or accused them of intentionally deleting my messages or selling my email address to spammers, I can only say they did not deny any of those things.

“Horrible spam filter and if you are abroad it filters...”

★★☆☆☆

written by ZayneKenny256 on 31/07/2022

Doesnt matter what you do, you receive so much spam in hotmail compared to gmail. Not enough. Everytime I travel abroad I cant log in because the horrible hotmail filter believes that I am a hacker. So, I have to use a secondary mail to confirm, but I dont receive the dam code that hotmail send and cant log in. Amateurs!

“Blocked”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JohanPeck on 19/11/2021

I've had my hotmail for over 20+ years. I've recently been locked out of my account and no matter how many times I fill out the recovery form it always comes back that they can't verify that it's my account!! I NEED this account. I CAN'T EVEN GET INTO APPS at the moment because I'm locked out. Even my recovery email address is changed. How do we rectify this?

“Locked out of my account ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by delythdavies on 10/09/2021

I have had an email account with hotmail for 19 years and suddenly last week I was locked out of my account and despite answering security questions I have been denied access. This has seriously disrupted the running of my business as we are all encouraged to use email etc. I have important documents and information on this hotmail site. I paid £ 27 for technical help which was on the hotmail web site and they failed to help me. I have found this experience very stressful and upsetting.

“Was excelent email service but not anymore”

★★★☆☆

written by cynthiaparker on 11/04/2019

I used to love msn Hotmail service it worked really well and was easy to use. I loved it so much that when my internet service stopped using msn I paid to keep the service. the ease of use and the msn explorer were really great. It has seemed that for the last couple of years they haven't been updating the system to work well with newer computers. my msn explorer keeps shutting down no matter whether I am just checking email or on the web browsing. I have had to stop using msn explorer and switch to Microsoft edge and sign onto my email through outlook. msn explorer also won't let me open any attachments in my email. also if you have any problems the only thing they have on their website to help you is a virtual agent that doesn't do anything. you can't find any contact numbers and if you do a search online you get a bunch of different phone numbers and you don't know if they are legitimate numbers or not. I had problems renewing my account so let it expire hoping they would send me a phone number to contact. I eventually ended up at the member center and went to the msn answers tab and clicked on billing help and a window popped up with the phone number to the billing and tech support number and finally got the problem taken care of in about 10 minutes. they should have these numbers on their site and/or have a live chat on the website for all subscription services. there should also be an email address to send problems, complaints or suggestions too.

Do people travel do people have friends do people work somewhere else but home. do people use their accounts just as forwards accounts only automated service to verify your account is provided if ones calles the hotline noone can help apart from the automated service given my account is 18 years old and as half the emails haven not arrived a moved to gmail. however using this mail on a new device it blocked. utterly unlogical and useless. my mailaccount has never been hacked.

“MSN is always BS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/04/2017

Hotmail has been very very very very very bad for years, I just kept it because it was free. But what has really disgusted me is MSN. It's always posting articles that are extremely biased or super gross. Every time I logged out it was a rush to close the page. Sooooo annoying, stupid journalists these days as we all know, and MSN has hired only that: stupid journalists.

“Worst for delivery”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rogerszi492 on 15/10/2016

As a business owner I see that Hotmail is the most troublesome of all the email providers. Hotmail have terribly over keen spam filters and blocking procedures. If you want to receive emails legitimately from businesses, DO NOT use Hotmail. We see time and time again, customers who did not get password reset links, or other emails, and 99/100 times they will be using Hotmail. The interface is also weak and not intuitive, compared to other services like Gmail. Gmail is much better. The reason I am writing this, is because I want MICROSOFT to improve the service.

“Never again hotmail!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by danielbarcelona on 08/05/2016

From now on hotmail is dead to me. Have an account with them for more than 10 years and to retrieve have to go through many security questions I can't even answer + credit card details and some other information I am not going to provide. They already have enough information and still is no good for them. So sorry to say this after so many years, but it is time to say bye to hotmail.

“hotmail/msn suck”

written by Beebe406 on 30/09/2014

If their service wasn't bad neough before, now every time you log in you have to go thru security bs. Seriously? If a hacker wants to read how I liked my last weekend, feel free, no need to hack, just ask.

“Lock you out of your account without a reason/no recovery”

★☆☆☆☆

written by cxMurphy163 on 29/05/2014

There seem to be only 2 options here. Either Hotmail is deliberately trying to lose customer, or the more likely one is that they only hire people with no sense. For 2 weeks I am trying to login from holiday and they are asking for a security code. Problem is that the recovery email address is also a hotmail and was locked. Then they got a really dumb page to fill information in. All completely useless as it always comes back as too less information. Even to my last message to their higher support team where I send a passport and driving license copy, they said no to. This still doesn't proof anything, despite the support chat telling me that this is what I should do. So my recommendation is to keep away. If you are there already get a new provider and get your messages forwarded as long as you still can!!!! Here my last message to them: This is the last time I give it a try to explain and find a solution. It is beyond my understanding how you can respond with the same stupid standard form to fill in, when you can see that I tried that option twice already and the system always told me too less information? How do you think it will work better now??? The form asks me for 3 old passwords. I have never ever changed my password in my 20 years with Hotmail. I am in the UK on holiday. You can see that since I tried to log in the UK, I did not from my home in Austria. I know my password. You decided to block my account because I log in from a different computer. My recovery account is also a hotmail. BIG MISTAKE - as you blocked this one as well because again login in from a different computer. Again because I am on holiday?? Why would you allow a recovery email to be hotmail as well, when you know it is useless in these cases? Why do you not refer to open a GMAIL Account for example and why did you never force a mobile phone number then? This has nothing to do with security it is just a lot of incompetence I must say. Anyway that chat agent I chatted to now recommended to send you my passport copy. I have attached more than just my passport. My credit card, national insurance card, and driving license. There is nothing more I can do now. Maybe you will ask for a urine or blood sample next who knows with you guys......

“Awful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Trujillo186 on 10/05/2014

It's fine and dandy for a little while and then they come in and change everything about it making it very difficult and not very user-friendly. They recently made some new security changes which involved locking me out of my account that I use on a daily basis and making it impossible to get it back and renew or update my information was very difficult and very frustrating . I am not happy with the new changes I would not recommend Microsoft products to anybody anymore despite being a very big fan once upon a time.

“Hotmail and its new security measures ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hancockzl204 on 20/03/2014

I've been a hotmail user for 20yrs and recently with the new security measures they have become nothing more than a headache, first they lock you out my account and force you do do what they want you to do or else you're lock out totally until you accept their terms. I see no reason to provide more personal information than they already have, as far as my concern I'm done with hotmail for good. Lucky for me I keep a list of all my email addresses, so not nothing lost. It must be the transformation from Hotmail to Outlook, whatever. Bye bye hotmail I won't miss you...

“HOTMAIL HAS GONE MAD WITH SECURITY!!!! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/01/2014

Hotmail has gone mad with security. making in impossible for users to access there e-mail accounts. the level of security they are using is too high. they are locking users out of there accounts making the experience terrible. if you don't mind using an e-mail sever they won't let you into your account. then Hotmail is for you. if you enjoy spending hours in a fit of rage loosing your mind to get into your e-mail account. then Hotmail is for you... other wise you will want to use another e-mail server or perhaps tie a note to a bird and send it...... it will be much easier and faster then using Hotmail.

“New change from hotmail to outlook, SUCKS!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/08/2013

I've been an account holder for 17 years, and never had a problem until now that hotmail join outlook. I am now getting junk mail in my inbox. A few days ago I didn't get any incoming mails for the entire day. It is not as easy as it use to be when you login. My friends can't receive my mails, when they are sent through outlook. Unfortunately, I am going to switch to another email company. CHANGE IS NOT ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA!!!!

“Can't use same password; Horrible User Experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by gilamonster14 on 21/08/2013

First off, I understand security and am an IT Professional. With that said, the fact that I am required to create a new password anytime I reset it, is ridiculous. Strong Passwords should be and are required, but the fact that I can't use even two or 3 different passwords (I've used before) is stupid! This stupidity is magnified when I already have to use a CAPTCHA to reset it. YAHOO has seemed to follow suit with this hyper-security sensitivity to the point of madness. With all of the applications out there that require passwords and most of them going to this model, the developers and security gurus, have basically hi-jacked what they are trying to protect. I now have to write my passwords down or put them as a text file on my computer. So I ask you, which is worse a bunch of passwords written down, where anyone can walk by my desk and pick up them up, or someone steals a computer (not secure) and grabs the .doc (.txt) file, named passwords, and logs in.

“Nauseous colors on Calendar redesign.”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 19/04/2013

Who in the world is responsible for the horrendous redesign of the hotmail calendar? It is just plain ugly, and whoever did it has no sense of aesthetics at all! The colors are nauseous! Frankly, the calendar was just about perfect the way it was. Change for the sake of improvement is to be applauded, but change for the sake of change is idiotic. Perhaps next time you should consult with the subscribers first!

“Nightmare time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/09/2012

I bought a game recently, Guildwars 2. Since then, Hotmail has been a real nightmare. The game sends an authentication code via e-mail for security measure, I could never receive this e-mail using my Hotmail account. Right now, my girlfriend sent me an email a few hours ago, I've been trying to answer her for 30-45mins, keep getting server busy. Word of advice, stay far away from Hotmail.
