Good Points: Good coverage of steam locomotive subjects without too much emphasis on preserved lines and locos. They letter features are always interesting and stimulate a lot of reaction from readers.

Bad Points: The long running series 'Stratford forever' has been overlong and concentrates too much on personalities rather than the depots, locos and operations particularly overlooking concerning the dock lines freight services.

General comments: The magazine covers the post World War II years very thoroughly with lots of interesting articles about spotter's activities in those halcyon days. There hasn't been a single issue that hasn't contained an article which hasn't been of interest to me. The olny 'boring' feature in my opinion, has been the over-long 'Stratford forever' feature which has been going on forever.

My father is a regular reader of the Steam World magazine.

The magazine concentrates on steam trains, but it does ocassionally have photos and articles on traction etc,.

My father swears by this magazine and has a huge amount of knowledge of steam trains, most of which he has got from reading the magazine over the years.

The photograhy is pretty impressive too.

You will find all the information you need on the best places to visit and annual events etc.
