Good Points: Always interesting content Challenges your perceptions Great for an alternative take on the world

Bad Points: Sometimes a little bit esoteric for the casual reader Occasional poorly researched article slips through the net

General comments: I've been a subscriber to Fortean Times for nearly ten years now, and it remains my favourite monthly publication. Every issue brings a round up of unusual news stories and events, with some inspired comment and a very idiosyncratic slant. Inspired by the writings of Charles Fort - an American who devoted half of his life to uncovering oddities in scientific literature and the news in the British Library's reading rooms - it unmasks conventions, challenges the accepted version of events, and professes to keep an open mind on all issues. Concerned with the usual array of what it normally described as 'the paranormal', UFOs, Bigfoot, lake monsters, prodigies, freak animals and the like, it also frequently takes in art, culture and politics. The news roundups are often darkly comic, and a salutary reminder that all is not always as it is reported to us by the media and government. That it achieves this without tipping over into the kind of dense superstition that dogs much of this kind of content is tribute to its open, humorous editing and democratic nature. Much of the content is compiled from readers around the world. If you want something different dropping on your doormat every month, you can certainly do a lot worse.

Fortean Times is a brilliant magazine if you like the weird and wonderful. The magazine covers everything from Big Foot to UFO abduction, and hauntings etc... A great magazine if you have an open mind.
