I can't believe I've only just looked at reviews! I thought Bob Martin was a reputable company, but since using the spot on treatments my cat's fur is coming out in clumps around her neck where it was applied. She has even just let me wash her - this is unheard of as she does not let you pick her up, but she must have been in such discomfort that it was a relief. I advise people not to buy iy and instead use product from the vet. They may be more expensive, but the animals are worth it. I'm... (read more)

Do not use this product! I used on our cats and one of them had an extreme reaction which involved foaming at the mouth and convulsing, this is apparently not an uncommon side affect for this product. We were fortunate that she is a fairly robust cat and was fine after we washed it off her, but there are loads of reviews out there saying that lots of cats have died as a result of reactions to the product. Not worth risking!! (read more)

There is a problem with the product, after googling the topic, it seems to be well known. I tried the product thinking that it wouldn't happen to our cat, well it did. I'm disgusted at Bob Martin. I will not be buying from them again. Please please listen to the reviews, yes it is cheaper than other brands, yet is it worth making animal suffer. I intend to contact the supermarket to warn them about this product. (read more)

After a particularly bad flea infestation spread to my three cats after one was left out overnight by mistake (long story) I decided I had to buy this product. I had already tried the bob martin spray but one of my cats is very highly strung so it did not work well on her - it has to be said that this is the type of cat that has had to be taken to the vet twice in the past to be dematted as we cannot brush her coat for long periods as she can be aggressive when the brush comes out. I bought the bob Martin spray yesterday as I found a flea on one of my two 8 week old puppies. On the product it mentioned nothing about only using on certain aged dogs nor did it mention it contained toxic chemicals. It did mention that the floor would be sloppy though if I put it on wood flooring. What a joke. 1 hour after spraying my puppies they became very week and started being very sick. Unsure what the problem was we just watched them carefully for a couple of hours. They got worse... (read more)

Having two of my own cats I find it hard to keep the fleas away and very expensive. I used to work as a veterinary nurse and know that some treatments such as flea collars’ are useless so I usually use Frontline when ridding fleas but recently I have taken on a further three feral cats and being a single lady I realised it was not economically sound for me to continue with Frontline, that’s when I looked to Bob Martin. i used it on my cat 6 times and it kills the fleas for sure - make sure you apply the spot on correctly as any residue that is licked by the cat will cause him to salivate. I don't know if other people have tried it but it's perfectly fine on my cat -
Written on: 26/09/2012
Yes, obviously it doesn't kill all cats, I've used it myself in the past, but just as some humans have allergies to certain things, some cats are clearly highly allergic to this product.
Frontline has no reported cases of this, Bob Martin has dozens, if not hundreds.
It's better to be safe than sorry.
Also, the fleas on the kittens mentioned above are still alive, the product killed a cat and not the fleas, go figure.
Written on: 28/09/2012
I can only report on my cat and he is fine, I always make sure the Bob Martin Spot On is not placed on him where he can lick it as it's toxic (it kills fleas don't you know!).. I've used front line but the fleas will always come back and it's very expensive. So I'll stick to Bob Martin, they've been making flea killer for generations and it's cheaper by far

It does have ingredients that kill fleas, and some cats are fine after having it but a very large number become extremely ill (have seizures and liver failure) and far too many actually die from renal and liver failure as a result of not being able to metabolise the 'medicine'. This number is far too high for it to be on shelves for people to buy. BOB Martin flea and tick spot on for cats is not to be used on kittens under 12 weeks - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS - it' on the front of the packaging clearly !!
i bought a 24 week cartoon for a 6 month old stray that i feed at the back of my garden. He is a completely white cat so i could see the occasional flea on him when he visits. I bought the BOB MARTINS from Tesco's for £7 and used it on the top of the cats shoulders . After 2 days he's looking much better. He didn't look sick or die or anything. In fact he came back for more food just a few hours after I applied BOB MARTIN SPOT ON him.
I'm sad to hear that some people are talking about a bad reaction their cats appear to be exhibiting - some of that may be due of not reading the instructions correctly. I Just thought I'd add this message after reading only negative comments about the product- I'm more than happy now , it works, it's easy to use and its not as expansive as other flea control Spot Ons

Now the kittens are 5 month old and till this month was no any flea. Unfortunately, my wife visited Germany and bought there Bob Martin cat Spot on drops. We applied it at two kittens today. One of them got sick in 5 minutes. That's why I started to look for reviews on Bob Martin drops. We carefully washed drops off the skin and hope to avoid other bad reactions. Oh thank you for the warning. Was looking for a treatment for my old cat that was gentle. This doesn't seem like the right thing to use.

On Monday night I accidentally put Bob Martin dog flea lotion on my cat.
Within 2 hours my cat was sick and I took her to the emergency vet at 1am. It was too late. I am heartbroken that my beautiful 5 year old black healthy, radiant tortoishell cat has died. I feel guilty and responsible for her death. I am heartbroken and severely down over this. I will miss her and cannot come to terms with what has happened. Why does this dreadful product not get taken off the market. The vet said this happens to others and it is a product which should be taken off the market as it doesn't even get rid of fleas.
Please please please be careful if you have a dog as well as a cat that you don't make this mistake. I am lost without my cat and my dog is too.

Listen, i think the thing to do here is get them taken off the supermarket shelves. It seems to be a problem prevalent, reading the reviews on here. Could you imagine a supermarket stocking a childs shampoo that created such heartache and anger! Absolutely not. It was people power that brought down the news of the world, so this product has to go, or people vote with their feet regarding the supermarkets.
If someone is stocking something that could kill my cat , why would i spend my hard earned cash there. This is utter nonsense.
firstly make a list of links like this page of review site's with people with similar stories, and send these links to the following people.
Second of all, contact bbc watchdog.
here's there link.

then the royal college of vetinary surgeons, might not be a vet problem directly, but sure as hell, this problem is going to be much much larer than people taking time out to write reviews.

I cant describe how upset i am about the product. I put the Spot-on on my cat yesterday at around 9pm. This morning, my mom woke up at 7am to find that the cat was shaking on the floor, she thought this would pass so left him, only to find that 10 minutes later he started fitting. My dad had to take him upto the vets soon after, and i've returned from school to find out that he has been fitting all day and they are having trouble getting him to stop and calm down. I am now faced with the... (read more)

We applied bob martins spot on three months ago to our beloved siamese, she has lost all the fur around her neck and over most parts of her body. leaving large scabs and open bloody sores. she has gone from a very sociable loving cat to hiding away, not wanting to be touched, forever biting and scratching at her skin. she crys all the time. she doesn't eat very much, lost weight. I've been patiently feeding her little bits of chicken by hand to hopefully get her strength back. we've been... (read more)

I put Bob Martins Worming Drops on my lovely Siamese cat Lily because cannot get her to eat tablets. Almost instantly she ran very distressed up and downstairs, jumped on furniture and was wimpering. I picked her up to see if it was the drops. OMG she had 2 burns on the back of her head, her fur had been burnt of and her skin was raw, it was like putting acid on her. I bathed her head and back to get the residue of. They were about the size of a 2p, one of them was red raw and bleeding, my... (read more)

We were very sorry to hear that your cat has experienced a suspected adverse reaction following the use of a Bob Martin flea treatment. Has your cat fully recovered? We understand that this must have been a very upsetting time for you, most of us at Bob Martin are pet owners ourselves so can appreciate how worrying it is when your pet is unwell. If you have not done so already, please can you contact our Consumer Care department at info@bobmartin.co.uk so that we can investigate what caused the reaction and see how we can help you. If your vet has not already done so we will also need to report this case to the Veterinary Medicine Board. In order to do that we need to collect all the information on the product you have used and the reaction experienced. We will wait to hear from you with further details.

I dont have any such problem, however! The 6pack ointment turned out to be a FOURpack. I looked carefully at the packaging and it is clear that it was originally packed as a 4-pack (no tempering, no removal are visible) whereas on the package it indicates six.
