The by-products from the rear of these animals is important to me, as I have to pick it up. This dog grub (DRY) is the best we have tried and the dogs are smiling. It may not suit every Mutt but our mad Springer and Lab are thriving on the stuff. Why pay more! (read more)

Our Red Setter has been on a daily diet of Chappie Tinned food alternated with JWB or RCW dried food for many years. However, over the past few months she has been suffering from diarrhoea and flatulence and we have been trying to work out what has been causing this problem, initially wondering if perhaps as her twin sister had recently passed away whether in fact she was suffering from stress. I echo the words of everyone else, I've been feeding my dogs dry Chappie dog food for years. Not only the price was appealing but also found it to be the most suitable especially as my hungarian vizsla has a very sensitive stomach & is also a fussy eater. Since they have been on the "new" kibble both dogs now suffer from extreme flatulance, their motions are looser & they both eat great quantities of grass. Hi this is because they have changed the meat. I had my dog on the chappie chicken and rice because he had a bad stomach. It was always a light meat with a chalky texture. I agree with most people on here, they have definitely changed the biscuits and meat whatever they say. My collie has a very sensitive stomach and has now been happy on chappie for a year. I recently bought him a new sac of biscuits and they were the new type, and the meat is the new type too. I wouldnt say it has given him diorrhea but its not great on a daily basis! I'm another dog owner who agrees with the unnecessary change for the worst with Chappie Complete. Neither of my dogs will eat the new formula, and I've had to add homemade gravy to even tempt them a little to the beef variety (I had to bin the chicken and rice, they wouldn't touch it whatever I did, and it smelt awful). Oh joy! today I found a 15kg bag of the original and they dove straight in when I fed them tonight. Also, I used to put a little of their allowance in their 'Kong' toys, so they had fun rolling them around to retrieve it, the new kibble is far too big to let me do this!. I've emailed the manufacturers and told them of the problems. Hopefully if enough people do this they will go back to the original.

No reply, they obviously don't care. I'll look out for the Waggs and try my dogs with that. In the meantime, they have been getting boiled rice with added boiled fish or chicken. Not the cheapest alternative but a little of the rice goes a long way, and a pan full lasts a couple of days.

"We often found that consumers would find the name original confusing as they weren’t too sure what they were feeding their dog , so we redesigned the packaging and changed its name to Beef and Wholegrain. The recipe mix hasn’t changed at all, though we have introduced two larger kibbles that encourage your dog to chew and increasing the abrasion they need for good dental health."
.............If they havn't changed anything why are so many people reporting that their dogs wont eat it, seams a bit strange to me.

My dogs (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) are all now on the canned variety of Chappie, and are doing really well. All runny poos a distant memory, no more gurgling tummies and trips to vet. Our vet actually recommended Chappie! (which is a revelation as so many vets promote expensive makes). Their coats have never been so silky and shiny. Would tell anyone to give it a go, whether you prefer the canned or dried varieties. Most supermarkets stock both (even Iceland!)
Wish I had read reviews...

can i feed my 18 week old cavalier on chappie
Written on: 25/04/2011
I cannot praise Chappie enough. My 11 year labradorX has been at deaths door, with a severe case of pancreatitis (was on a drip at the vets for 4 days), and also collitis. He got well enough to come home, and we were given prescription food from the vets which was costing £22 a week! This is a buget which we could not afford in the longterm, so after speaking to a doggy friend of mine, and googling pancreatitis I put him on dry chappie and "hey presto" straight away his poos are back to... My dog had lots of problems with an upset stomach and this went on for around 2 months, he was spraying what looked like brown water from his bottom everywhere, after many trips to the vets and lots of money wasted on chicken, eggs and expensive food that the vet sold me nothing was working, Instead of going back to the vets i sat and thought of what we used to feed our dogs when i was younger we had 6 dogs and none of them ever saw a vet in there lives and all lived to the healthy age of... I am so pleased I came across your comments. I have had 11 dogs in my time and now have a 4year old Airedale. I have always fed him Bakers Complete but having been told and read articles about it I am looking to change. He also when over the park is constantly squatting and having a brown water like liquid coming out of his bum. I was being told he was marking but have never experienced this with other dogs or other dog owners with the same problem. Looking back I fed my past dogs on Chappie so having read your article that's what I intend to do. Thank you for your review Watch this space

CHAPPIE - great for dodgy doggy tums and bums!
My springer spaniel puppy (now 6 months) seemed to be having a lot of runny poos - we would often wake to find what looked like an explosion on the floor! As it is my first dog, I was really panicky so was constantly at the vet who sold me Royal Canin 'sensitive' wet food (£2 per standard can) You can imagine the expense of me being a new mum!. Well this food was basically minced chicken and rice - nothing else. His poo would return to...

My late German Shepherd had a sensitive tummy, and when he was 6 years old developed a nasty condition called furunculosis which causes lesions inside the back passage which can spread into the bowel. We were advised by the vet to keep his diet bland and to avoid beef. Many of brands of food were simply too expensive for us to feed him long term so we decided to try the cheap and cheerful chappie, and amazingly he loved it and his condition resolved and never recurred. I now feed chappie dry... (read more)

Our five month old puppy has had constant sloppy poos and nothing seemed to help - we tried every possible brand. The vet recommended Chappie and immediately everything improved. As it's a low fat food you do need to feed more for puppies but the change is amazing. (read more)

I have 2 yorkies both with diabetes and pancreatitus one also has cushings our vet put them on Hills w/d and they would not eat it there skin went all flakey and they were pooing for england. I tried other makes for diabetic dogs and then tried them on chappie, they now eat all the food and the pancreas is less inflamed , Great food for diabetes as well, the dried low fat food keeps them stable Would reccomend this food

My 5 yr old Cocker was recently diagnosed with Pancreatitius after a lifelong diet of dried food from James Wellbeloved through to Science Plan.

When I moved in with my boyfriend who also had a dog, my Cocker became much more "gulpy" when eating his food as he was obviously worried that the other dog was going to try to get his dinner!

I don't think that eating dried food at such a pace helped with his pancreatitius, but the vet recommended he be put on Chappie which would also help with his weight which he was getting slightly chubby.

I have had no problems since then, and he has also been changed to 3 meals a day, rather than two so that his pancreaus can process everything at a better pace.

Can't fault Chappie at all!

Just wish they had more than two flavours!

OK I don't knwo about their dry food but my greyhound was on their wet and it was not good at all. We had to mix it with butchers and it made her stool sample all runny and she didn't even eat all that much to be honest. Maybe thats just because wet food isn't as good dry food. Any we switched her to dry food ( different brand) and she loved the taste and her stool is normal. (read more)
