We picked up a box of this for our new kitten as this is what she was used to and we didn't want to cause any upset tummies the first week. She ate it eagerly, but afterwards she would stink of some rotten meat. The food isn't that great either considering it has such a low meat content and high filler content. Their cans "with jelly" contain added "vegetable protein extracts", typically added to boost the protein content upon analysis, but vegetable proteins aren't metabolized well by cats... (read more)

I have used this for my cat for the 4 years we have had the cat. However, during this summer the cat is turning her nose up at the food, and each sachet is absolutely stinking. The smell pervades the whole house. It smells like something has died! What has changed? Are the manufacturers doing anything about this problem? I have a large 48 pack and I am going to have to put them all in the bin and change the cat on to some other kind of food. (read more)

my 2 cats have refused to eat whiskas for the last few weeks ,even though they have always enjoyed it previously. Even the local foxes and hedgehogs dont touch it when i put the uneaten food out for them. What has gone wrong?

As i have been looking after the house for a week whilst my mum is away i have had to juggle doing the cleaning, washing and going to college.. anyway.. each day i came home there was a revolting smell haunting the house! My brother and dad had complained of it to and i thought it was to do with something that i hadn't cleaned and was smelling as i had been through everything else it could be.. it wasn't untill my cat had gone off her food and i had to keep changing it that i could smell... Is there anychance that those who were taken aback by the smell of said Whiskas cat food can recall what flavour it was?? We are having our own spat with Mars having bought 3 boxes of 48 jelly pouches (for the price of 36)from Tesco (this year) out of which some 28 units, all the same flavour, were totally rejected on each occasion presented by our two moggies. Any assistance wld be very valuable or direct to leigh.kemble at yahoo.co.uk

The specific culprit which has driven me to write today is "Oh so Meaty" Delicious Meals in Gravy. On two occasions recently I have bought Whiskas Pouches when the preferred food was not available. I will not be buying this brand again under any circumstances because of the really bad smell or should I say stink from this food which pervades the house. It lingers for hours and is not only very unpleasant but embarrassing when visitors call. Today the temperature where I live (Ayrshire,... (read more)

We bought our cats whiskas steamed fish in jelly pouches a few days ago, and since then my house has been stinking, thinking it was the left over cat in the bin, I put the bin outside. But the smell persisted, I have now realised it is the whiskas food in their bowls that is stinking my house out. I thought I was spoiling my cats by getting them whiskas, not so! I now have approx 10 pouches left and am seriously thinking of binning them and getting kitekat again! (read more)

Whiskas is just a really bad cat food. It is only 4% real meat/fish content and the rest is just "fillers". They are also only 85g pouches and if you use the ones in gravy, most of it sticks inside the pouch so you lose food and money.
It is not surprising that most of the supermarkets are now offering "2 for £5". Obviously not selling.
I certainly won't be buying this awful stuff any more.

My cat used to 100% love Whiskas in Jelly untill about 5 days ago when we purchased some more, we didn't realise what the problem was at first, the cat suddenly stopped eating and became lethargic, listless, and went to find a place to die, and just laid there shutting down, we just thought it was her time to die, we didn't want to upset her any more by dragging her to the vet to be poked and prodded, we thought it was her time, and would let nature take its course, we never thought for one... I found this review very helpful because... I too have noticed over the past few weeks that the Whiskas in Jelly food has had a quite foul smell and our cat (Nelson Buggerluggs - Nelson because he was born blind in one eye and Buggerluggs because he was such a naughty kitten) quite often just glared at me and walked off when I served it up.

Have tried Sainsbury's own which smells REALLY foul and we are now on Felix which does smell but not so bad!

I have had exactly the same thing - our cats suddenly refuse to eat the stuff, particularly the beef sachets. I think that something has changed.

Also bought Wiskas pouches on offer instead of Felix. My cat was sick instantly and seemed unwell for a couple of hours after. The smell of the pouch was horrid, I had to double wrap it to stop my bin smelling. I have emailed the company and will be very interested to hear their comments. Suggest if you have also had problems to do the same. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! (read more)

WHISKAS CAT FOOD IN JELLY
Yuck!! - I have 3 cats between the ages of 10 and 8 years old. All their life they have eaten Whiskas in different forms, the jelly fish & meat, gravy and the kitten boxes (even as adults) But since mid 2009 I noticed that the cats started going off the food so changed to Kite Kat, but now from late 2009 to 2010, apart from Whiskas kitten none of the cats will eat the adult Whiskas cat food. Years ago I saw a documentary that companies use bits of meat that is...

Having a similar experience to other reviewers...the stuff absolutely stinks, when I get back from work the whole house smells of it. Nasty. I had been thinking it was the warmer weather but it's vile straight from the pack. Relieved to see other people having the same experience, thought it was just us...will not be buying it again! We have fed our cat on Whiskas since she first came along --and she's about 18yrs old now!
However, this company have obviously changed the recipe, and *downgraded* the product, --probably to increase profits?
So many companies seem to try this trick, and it backfires on them, --they end up losing their market share!
Whiskas used to be one of the more expensive/premium cat foods, but we were okay abaout paying the extra, because that was all our cat liked to eat. But now we are searching...

What has happened to these pouches in the last few weeks?? They now smell a lot! We have fed our cat these for a few years (mostly fish in jelly) but we've had to put his food in the garden now as we cannot stand the smell. I think its the new recipe or steam cooking - but if they don't change it back we'll have to switch... (read more)

What has happened to the whiskas in jelly?! My cat who used to love whiskas won't touch it anymore. Takes one sniff and walks away from the food. My cat was also sick a couple of times after eating whiskas tuna in jelly and chicken in jelly. What have whiskas changed about their jelly and gravy products? I have heard from others also that their cats have also gone off whiskas. (read more)

If your cat says NO to a food especially a food it used to enjoy throw it away and fast, these days with the pet food market, don't count on the manufacturers to be stepping up any time soon to tell us about bad food, if that is all it's offered eventually it will have to eat it and chances are it probably is bad.
I too have had my cats that used to enjoy whiksas pouches now just give it a sniff one of my cats is very polite gives it a lick but that's it, even the strays outside that get the leftovers from my cat's food wont touch it. These days I try to always have at least 2 different brands on hand I wish I had done this a couple years back I lost 2 of my babies to special kitty food so it had been whiskas until just lately. No doubt there's something up with this food lately I know I'm not willing to take any chances if my kids say no I say good baby and give them something else.

What has happened to Whiskas In Jelly? From liking all flavours mostly in Jelly he now will not eat beef tuna rabbit or turkey I am frightened to try him with whiskas again he just turns away from it even with a voucher for a free box of pouches my cat would not eat half of them I had to give them away. I have found Tesco's own brand in jelly is preferred to whiskas also Co-op's own brand in jelly goes down better than whiskas. (read more)

I have a diabetic cat and have learned that whenever I've given him cat food with 'vegetable protein extract' in it his blood glucose goes through the roof! (I know this because, like an increasing number of owners of diabetic cats, I routinely test his blood glucose at home). I find it rather worrying that this ingredient is included in cat foods at all...
