“Road Angel Gem”

Written on: 26/04/2013

Not what I expected from a Road Angel detector! There are many faults which let this unit down in my opinion: 1. The tone of the alarm is just about the worst I have ever come across, really cheep and tacky sound. 2. It's impossible to add/remove a camera location without using both hands which is obviously of no use at all unless you have a death wish! 3. There is no way of muting the infernal voice warning if you only want the alarm, you can only set male or female voice. 4. The "Sun... (read more)

“Vantage is useless”

Written on: 07/04/2013 by mbirch

I have had two vantage units that have died. Its been back three times now and still not working. I think they have a 6 year old in the workshop. Useless customer service, they just try to sell you a new one. they know nothing about customer service. Do not buy any road angel product. (read more)

“Road angel gem delux”

Written on: 05/03/2013 by Sprintst21 (1 review written)

Started off well, the total unit thn went dead after less than 5 hours use. Data base updated ok, work quite well before then, returned it to halfords who offered to get a new one in stock or refund. I opted for the refund as i now have little confidence in it - March 2013 midlands (read more)

“Not worth the money”

Written on: 14/08/2012 by suffolk (10 reviews written)

The Gem version takes eternity to latch on to the satellites. Yesterday I took nearly 4 miles to indicate it was in sync. Pointless, as I was only half mile from home. In built up areas the laser detector drives you mad with false alerts, to the extent where I rip out the power lead on the dash in frustration Only one good thing, I bought it from Ebay at £15, if I had paid full price I would not have been at all pleased Avoid this product. Suffolk's Response to suffolk's Review

Written on: 18/08/2012

It clearly states in the manual, that once the internal battery has charged the satellites will appear within seconds.
However, after removing the cover to test the battery there is not one fitted !
Checked the circuit board and nothing
So who is Road Angel trying to kid then

“Too many false warnings ”

Written on: 14/06/2012 by quindici100

I've had a Road Angel Plus for over 3yrs, and around 120k mls. OK for the fixed cameras. On the arrays of variable speed gantries on motorways it drives you crazy because it is giving warnings every few seconds for perhaps 15mls. I've tried deleting them, but the Road Angel keeps reinstalling them. The biggest problem is mobile cameras, where the database is now so large that you get maybe fifty alerts in a day, with less than one in a thousand being live. In the time that I've had it, it... “road angel download for iphone”

Written on: 23/11/2011

On the iphone it is very basic and only useful for your speed - the speed you should be doing and all the others like black spots speed cameras etc. I think the average will say it is useless I have another more faverable opinion myself but I really want to talk about the service you get! Now that really is useless, I changed phones and lost all data like serial number etc and I have been trying for over a week to get active again. Even after sending proof of purchase I still have no joy.... (read more)

further to this I now have it activated and i suppose it was my fault for not making not of the serial data.
the prog! well on the iphone I treat it as an aid. An aid to keep me within speed limits and to be extra careful at black spots etc. I know - I can hear you now 'get a bleedin life'

But; any pratt can drive fast; If you are lucky, as I was, you will survive that very stupid moment in time. For me that period of time lasted just a couple of years with no accidents.

And anyone can drive perfectly well and always within the law, then at times lets his/her hair down and the Highway Code goes out of the window.

But show me someone who can drive correctly all of the time and I will show you a very rare person! I know they exist because I know a few and they are the ones who really can drive and drive well! - and you thought it was you!!!

“Road Angel Plus. ”

Written on: 05/10/2009

Road Angel Plus.
We purchased this unit purely for the long drives we do to Scotland twice a year or so and never had any issues or so we thought. The first time it went wrong it was fixed within the warranty period and all was well. The second time it went wrong it was uneconomical to repair and we were offered a discount to upgrade (they start sounding like sales people at this point and my partner nearly fell for it, a new pretty colour unit for only £xxx or for a bit more you can have... Had this device for two years and it has saved me (and co-drivers) on several occasions. As authorities change the speed limits now so many times on a single stretch of road it is easy to get distracted or forget which speed limit you are in. (read more)

Written on: 16/10/2008

I first bought a Road Angel 3 years ago but I found the database not picking up cameras even though I'd updated the Road Angel a few days earlier, after my free 6 month subscription ran out I bought a Snooper camera detector that had all the cameras in the system and when a new camera goes up snooper always updated it within a week of a camera being up, however I recently dropped my snooper and I broken it, so as I already had a Road Angel I bought a 2 year subscription costing £79 and I... Written on: 23/07/2008

I bought this for myself and a Snooper Syrius for a present and found that the Syrius for £50 more wiped the floor with the Road Angel plus. Its camera and blackspot detection were far more accurate than the extremely disappointing Road Angel. The voice and sounds on the Road Angel are annoying. Due to the complex nature of storing your own blackspot information, the unit hardly ever gets accurate updates via the web. Do not buy this flimsy unit. Most sat navs do more than this now. Expensive tool - that does not do all that is claimed by the manufacturer. (Never detected a mobile unit - 30k miles and passed several camera vans, tax vans, and 2 hand held units). It can help keep your license, but I can not rely on it as I had hoped. (read more)

Great as a reminder not to go too fast and great for static cameras. Do not believe that it picks up mobile units - in 2 years I've either been very lucky that they choose not to point at my car or it doesn't work. I know which I choose to believe.

I can no longer get a power lead for the Road Angel GPS speed camera detector without paying extra money, even though not one of them has lasted 12 months! The annual premium is not refundable either, despite there being 6 months left on a... (read more)

Written on: 28/12/2005 by Julian Wells (1 review written)

The magnetic base on which the Road Angel sits is too weak to hold the set in place firmly and you find yourself constantly readjusting it. The screen keeps reminding you to update even when you have done and this can be a distraction when driving. The updates available on line are not recent enough to capture new installation cameras - particularly at road works etc. All the information available on Road angel can be loaded on to the better versions of sat nav with better screen, more... Written on: 05/11/2005 by helfinger (2 reviews written)

I upgraded from my classic Road Angel, which I had for a number of years. This unit works extremely well, and I'm glad I went for the Road Angel 2. This was all due to the very honest advice I received from speed detectors UK, who really seemed to know their stuff. Their site I think is: http://www.speed-detectors.co.uk.

I'm very happy with the unit, and I would definitely say to other people to buy one, if only to stop Tony Blair getting all our hard earned money from the cameras in the UK. (read more)

Written on: 20/11/2004 by welsh nutter (2 reviews written)

I used to work in the trade and sold all the various GPS detectors and this Road Angel GPS Speed Camera Detector is the one I chose personally. Compared to the Snooper equivalent, it works better, is more reliable, has more features and is cheaper to buy and update. It's only been wrong occasionally and these have always been warnings of cameras that are no longer there or of ones on side roads running parallel to me. All the competitors do the last one, so must be unavoidable! The only... (read more)

Written on: 05/10/2004 by Fobyac25 (9 reviews written)

This Road Angel is the only GPS Speed Camera Detectors I've owned so I can't really compare it to anything else. But it works as it was supposed to, you get plenty of warning for cameras, schools, congestion charge zones and blackspots, plus you can configure the settings to all sorts of levels - LEDs, distance, sounds etc.
It's really helped me slow myself down (9 points already)and I've found myself driving a little better because of it. I used to go a little over the speed limit on... (read more)
