Good Points: Decent equipment.
Bad Points: Bad customer service.
General comments: I had my personal belongings stolen from a of a FF locker (even though I'd locked it). This happened again to another member a month later (this time in the Ladies'). The management and staff did not care or bother to address the issue at all. I have since cancelled my membership and have a court date to try and recover my losses from them. Has this happened to anyone else out there?...the theft that is..

If you do not mind:
- The computer system sometimes failing and one time I had to carry all my clothes to store behind reception because they had no way to give me a locker.
- Classes cancelled several time because the teacher didn't turn up.
etc etc. Too many issues to mention. Use any other gym other than Fitness first is what I would recommend.

Seriously I would not recommend going to fitness first at all, I joined a few months ago and went regularly to begin with however, I then split up with my wife, had to move out of my home and away from my children, I have lost everything, been struck dwon witha viral infection for a month and then had to have a lump removed off my back. In the end due to having to pay costs of living somewhere else and upkeep costs on the house so my children had somewhere to live, I had no option but to cancel ...

I was a member of Fitness First in Bristol Waterside and I will never join one of their gyms again, for the following reasons:
- Disappointing customer service and limited communication from some staff. For example, once I made an appointment for my free Bupa fitness consultation. When I arrived at the gym, nobody knew where the instructor in charge was. I waited and waited and nobody could give me any information. I had to reschedule the appointment for another day. Exactly the same happened to ...

The sales guy that signed me up misinformed me. I explained that I was not sure how long I would be in the country for and I was told that if I move anywhere where there is no fitness first my membership will be cancelled with no cancellation fee or contract payout.
Now I have left the country and tried to cancel my membership I was told to to pay half the contract!
Trying to deal with fitness first has been hard, they rarely answer my emails and when I called them and asked for anything in w ...

I have tried to cancel my subscription to the gym and after sending a cheque to close the membership, the company decided not to cash it and pass the £18.95 over to a credit recovery company telling them that I owed £43.95 rather than £18.95.Use Fitness First if you want to but woe betide you try to cancel membership.

Well worth a visit!!! Fitness First is great value for money especially with all this credit crunch at the moment. It's facilities are very much of a high standard and staff are always welcoming and friendly. All staff are a credit to fitness first.

Fitness First is the second gym I've belonged to in London. Compared to the other gym, FF's gyms are incredibly crowded and offer an overall very unpleasant experience! The machines were also often broken and the cleanliness was questionable. One thing that bothered me was that I decided to use a different location, and went there several times until one time I was barred entry as I wasn't on the correct membership level (the club was black, and I was on the blue level, or somethine like that). F ...

I have had problems with FF starting a new Direct Debit mandate after I had cancelled my membership and cancelled the original Direct Debit with my bank. You are protected by the if a DD mandate is set up or altered without your consent. Secondly ask your bank to demand a copy of the mandate from FF. FF will probably not respond, and even if they do PLEASE report this OFFENCE to BACS (number can be found on their website) to explain your situation (you will probably be asked to email in your ...

I'm very impressed with my local eastbourne branch of fitness first. Particularly the free health checks and individual exercise programs. I know it's part of a drive to keep you as a member, but these are genuinely very useful! ... and make you feel cared about. I've never felt it was overcrowded. Perhaps I shouldn't say that - I should be turning people off lol.

Having experienced a number of different gyms I don't honestly believe Fitness First is interested in personal fitness or wellbeing, all they seem to care about is getting new members in the door. They don't care what impact their over-subscription has on the experience of current members. I am leaving Fitness First as soon as my subscription is up this month.

Large section of gym in Aspects, Bristol is now for Personal Training only. (They get funny if you enter as one Personal Trainer quoted ' You only pay £35 a month, my clients pay more, get out !!' Another section is wasted just for bike spinning. Everyone else is cramped up and with weights flying about, this is very very dangerous. Staff say they are first aid trained but have not got a clue. Very dirty. Not enough water outlets.New gym opened up across the car park, mass exodus. ...

I was a member of Fitness First in Dubai UAE. I moved to Canada and made arrangements to have my membership end when the contract was over. They continue to debit my credit card and will not respond to my emails and phone calls. I will never join a Fitness First again and will warn anyone thinking of doing so that they will have difficulty ending their membership. Because their customer service is very very poor and they have debited over $500 from my credit card for a service I made arrangement ...

I joined Fitness First in December, I requested a three month contract as I knew I would be moving in the not too distant future.
I should state at the outset that Fitness First broke its contract with me within three weeks of my having signed up. I paid an initial admin fee and was told that my first payment would be taken from my account on 15th January 2008. It was, in fact, taken out on 1st January 2008.
I phoned my local branch of Fitness First to discuss this, and was told that the yo ...

The quality of FF depends very much on the managers and staff. FF Roboek House is super friendly in the mornings, very helpful and great me by name. Makes a big difference to the some lack lustre swiping of my membership card in other branches. I like using the sauna after a workout. The sauna in Covent Garden has been broken for ages now - very annoying. I don't think they want to rip you off but customer service is not always high on the agenda. Changing rooms an showers are often quite dirty. ...

I recently called fitness first to ask how much peek membership was on a three month contract i was told £34.00 plus £10 for the membership card that was refundable if i didn't extend the contract after 3 months,i also asked if the price included use of the sauna and steam room, i was told yes it did!! so the following day i went to sign the contract and train, but when i went to change there was a sign on the entrance to the sauna and steam room saying under refurbishment until th ...

I was reasonably happy with fitness first (Chesterfield) until a change in my working hours made it impossible to to attend the gym. The problems started when I chose to cancel membership. I phoned fitness first Chesterfield to let them know I wished to cancel my membership I was told to give one months notice in writing. I handed this in at the reception desk the next day.
The debt collection agency they use have told me to obtain the cctv footage of me handing the the envelope/contents to th ...
