The price is low at Fitness First and the equipment is fairly good, but as many others have said it is impossible to get a workout in between 5-8pm.

Don't join Fitness First - I beg of you.I joined and cancelled within the 10 day money back period due to its blatant unprofessional half-wit reception staff. Never met anyone like them. Did I get my money back? Did I hell. To add insult to injury, not only had they not refund the joining fee which they promised I'd get back but the also charged me for a month membership - I'd not been to the gym to work out once! Thoroughly dissatisfied with this"organisatioon". The manager now wants to see my ...

Fitness First Islington Gym: I had an awfull time ending my contract. Joined 3rd of the month, witch apparently means i had to pay for 13 months for my 12 month contract (should have read the small small small print!). Still took an extra month to cancel on top. Rude customer care on site and on phone at the call centre. Its a shame as before this I liked the place and would have given 8 or 9.

Decent quality equipment for a low end gym but some very dirty facilities and poorly maintained facilities even in supposedly flagship gyms. Good club coverage in London and friendly staff in the club.
Overall experience with Fitness First has been totally soured by poor customer relations by head office and confusing cancellations policies which has left me severely out of pocket.

Are fitness first having financial difficulties?
Apart from have sold off several clubs including the main one I used the showers are generally very poor and upholstery on training equipment worn out. I actually dropped a used plaster on the changing room floor at Milton Keynes (disgusting I know, but it fell off), even more disgusting it was still there 3 days later, same plaster. This club has since been sold.

Signed up for a 3 month contract with Fitness First, ended up paying for 5 despite giving 1 month's cancellation notice. Even heard more horror stories about other people from my bank advisor whilst trying to cancel the direct debit. To make it worse, only managed to go to the gym twice due to massive workloads. Gonna try signing up with Gold's which is closer to my home and it's got a better atmosphere to it even though it's more expensive.

Fitness First is absolute crap.
I went there for three years and they just kicked me out because i stayed late twice amoungst many others.
Is that a way to treat a loyal customer!!?
The only reason i stayed for so long was due to the fact it was a 10min jog and all other gyms are a bus ride away.

Fitness first is by far the dirtiest, nastiest gym i have ever attended, why i continue to go there i dont know because i guess its local. From the changing rooms to the studio it is absolutely filthy, as soon as you walk in the stench hits you, it smells like it has never been clean, it is also very small and very claustrophic.

I joined Fitness First in November 2008. I was not happy with the level of service provided, mostly do to the unhygenic facilities and to the lack of classes offered. Cancelling my subscription has been a nightmare as I've contacted the company on three separate occasions to request a cancellation and I have been ignored each time. The service is bad and I would recommend potential new entrants stay away, there are nicer and more competitively priced gyms elsewhere.

I found Fitness First to be a right rip off. They installed new lockers, for which they charged members an additional £10 one off fee, apparently refundable on leaving, but very difficult to get back in reality. When I wanted to cancel my membership it was vety difficult as they do not accept e-mail as an acceptable form of advice and you have provide notice at a very specifc time of the month..I would avoid at all costs.

The whole membership process is so untransparent. When I joined, I knew that someone had got a £39 rate before and I was told that I would go on a temporary rate, and when a lower rate came along, my rate would be lowered to the new rate. A couple of months later, a colleague at work got the same Platinum reciprocal membership for £29 per month (mine was 62% greater at £47), but my rate had still not been lowered. I had also been told that if I needed to cancel my members ...

Fitness First Epsom....this is in response to reading a previous comment by anbother FFepsom member you are only paying between £22.95 and £35 per month so it is amazingly cheep i am suprised it is not more considering how nice the club and staff are and the classes have not been reduced just shuffled about as anyclub do 4 times per year i have been a member for five years and on one occasion the toilets in the ladies overflowed and was dealt with within minutes and that does not r ...

Never having belonged to a gym before i guess I am easily pleased but at Fitness First the attention is good, there are up to 8 coacnes? on the floor at any one time a dozen televisions in front of the jogging machines ipod plug in facilities water coolers electronic lockable lockers.... I was impressed to be quite frank!
As it has improved I have found its quite crowded at say 6 or 7 in the evening.

me and 3 of my friends have had horrible experiences with Fitness First.once you sign up, there is no way you can cancel without losing money. even if you relocate, they ask for proof of relocation. and your reason for relocating has to be approved by them to terminate the memebership. and an y reason you give they dont approve ,obviously to make money.

I generally like the Fitness First club since I have been a member (jan 2009). There are lots of machines and classes. And staff are warm and welcoming. But when things go wrong their customer services, beyond the branch, did not help. I mean, I was overcharged after the first payment and when I rung the number, the staff had no idea how things work. So they took my details for someone to contact me but no one ever does. I ring again and the same happens. So I sent emails and no one responded. R ...

Fitness First looks and smells good and appears to be very efficient to start with. They have very bad communcation between staff members, i requested to have my account cancelled and for payments to be stopped and although I was assured this would be the case I returned home to find out they had charged me £100 membership that I had not agreed to! I wouldn't reccomend them to anyone as they, even after repeated contact, have not dealt with my complaint and simply insist on taking a mess ...
