I am truly disgusted by the sham that is fitness first. My contract was a 12 month contract of which started on December 1st 2011 and expired in December 2012. i visited my club at the beginning of March to inform them that my contract had expired and i would be cancelling. i was informed that i would have to give a months notice so out of good will i paid for the month of march and april. I originally joined Fitness First because they had 3 gyms in my city and I could use any one of them (I travel around the city a lot with my job) The membership fee at £38.95 seemed steep but given that I had the flexibility to use all of their gyms I wasn't overly bothered. Waste of money . My wife was coaxed to sign up for 1 year membership saying she can cancel it anytime . Also staff is mostly ill-informed and ignorant about the systems they use .Been charged "bank reject fees" twice, whereas my bank claims that any such transaction was never made. Same thing has happened twice but they dont learn . Amazing service :-) (read more)

“worst gym in the metro area”

I wish I had read the reviews before signing up for this POOR quality fitness institution myself! I was the member of the gym in Arlington. The place had few machines with half of them broken. Bathrooms were always nasty, with no toilet paper or hand soap. I was taken advantage and charged extra for 3 times in 1 year! I ended up being charged for a membership a month after my contract was over. They do not notify that they transfer you on month to month basis and keep charging after the year... (read more)

Dude check your original fitness first contract. It will say something about sale or transfer of club which means that Fitness First can give your details to any new company who buys their gyms. Lets face it - they're selling most of them so this is going to happen a lot.

Give the new guys a chance....you know they'll be ten times better than Fitness First will ever be!

Poor hygiene, avoid the sauna and showers! As for the facilities over packed sadly, though equipment is new but when (an regularly) broken it takes an age to fix. Do not pay for membership by direct debit or it will be reset without your permission. I assure you the keen sales people there will do what ever they can to attain your card details. Avoid after 6pm immensely busy, did I mention hygiene!!! Membership prices from £40+ Try looking elsewhere you have been warned. (read more)

At the end of a four month contract, I decided to cancel my membership at the Brighton branch of Fitness First as the gym was over crowded, the equipment was threadbare and the changing rooms were disgusting. The standard of fitness first for Women Crouch End leaves a lot to be desired. The staff are rude and only worried about checking their facebook pages and chatting.The equipment is old and in need of dire repaire. Been a member at ff carindale for over 3 years! The last 4 months the management has changed with that all of the great staff have left...they have also taking away the ping pong table that was great for socialising! I have approached the new manager about this, she just said we want the run this club like a hilton hotel. She said this in a way like if you don't like it then leave. “Sales before service”

Hard sales and no service especially if you want to cancel your membership. They only good at making you sign the contract and after that seems you are not important to them anymore. The girl told me yes, she was cancelling it now and printed me "cancellation request" receipt. But, how come the direct debit keeps coming? and corporate discount? Hmmm, have you asked if you can scan and email a copy? Most reputable companies will allow this, but you may (rightly) find that you can't cancel until you have sent this information.

Heated swimming pool.... It sucks:er negatives: no induction; no personal trainers make themselves known and if you ask reluctantly tell you how to use the machines(!?). sometimes, in the showers, there is no shower gel (happened last night, and I had to got from one shower to another!). Alperton Fitness First sauna wasnt working loots of times, big licking in girls gym,poor equipment. They closed gym and still taking money for non existing gym! AVOID!!! Have been a member with FF for 11 months now. My "home club" has been sold and I do not want to transfer to the new club as the main reason why I have joint FF in the first place was the Passport option to us any other FF clubs around the country. Had requested a transfer to another FF club 7 months ago as soon as the intention to sell off my home club was advertised - nothing happened even though I did ask many times about the status. Hmmm, it seems to be a gray area as to what your rights are with regards to FF selling their Clubs. This is a big issue as they are selling so many!

Sadly FF seem to be dealing with it in much the same way as they deal with everything else - badly!

You never know, the new owners of the gym may be able to offer you something really special for a great price! You should wait and see.

I joined the gym on a rolling monthly contract. What I was not told was the gym was to be closed in a month. Fitness First still expect my joining fee and monthly payment. I disagreed and thought I should have been told that I was joining a club due to close. When going to gym, you expect to be treated fairly. Gym has camera's but too many blind spots. Lots of thugs in the halifax gym. You can only understand this once you get beaten up by multiple larger people from all angles and yet the stupid manager kicks me the victim out. How ignorant and stupid!. Lots of equipments, never had problem with payment, I got my joining fee waived (which honestly I think they always waive it), opening hours is okay, facility is very good, personal trainers are friendly and helpful (even when I wasn't their clients). They have this "freeze account" feature which I found quite handy if I am going away for months. Also, no problem when I wanted to quit. (read more)

I have been a member at theis gym for many yrs. Recently my credit card was used as fraud. I recieved my new card 5 days later and called the corporate office to let them know that the current card they have was fraud and I have a new card. So I gave them the info and I knew I had to pay a late fee. This has never happened to me before. Then the woman said well we will have to charge you 54 dollars for the late fee. I could not believe that it was that much! I said fine because what else am I going to do.

Fitness first,CP,Delhi is less a gym and more a company which is interested in how to get money from people. I would say it is better to do exercises, yogasan at home than to go fitness first. If you want to waste money, go to FF. If there are more customers, they will make the services paid which were otherwise free!! I know Fitness First better than most, I work at head office in Poole for many years. I am not a disgruntled employee and nor am I someone who will stir up trouble without good cause. During my time with Fitness First I witnessed some extemely questionable ethics, some were actually illegal. I need to advise you that on Friday last, I had a free one day Gym Pass, with Fitness First at Indooroopilly... I had seen previous weeknights that the club closed daily around 9pm.. Sorry, you didn't read your contract?! Did you sign it? I'm stunned that people always sign something they haven't read, and always end up on review centre slating the gym companies.

Despite what the person at the gym said (which really is your word against theirs) as a consumer you need to do your due diligence that what you are signing is right for you.

they will still charge you until your contract runs out. You have to understand that for example minimum term 4 months contract is more expensive because you only commit for 4 months. If you want a cheaper price(what normally all the people want) you have commit for 12 months. If your argument would be - im not attending, they can cover their back by saying you should have gone for pay as you go option which is normally nearly 2 times more expensive than monthly fees on 12month basis. You have out your signature on the contract, so unfortunately as long as you dont have a serious medical condition, dont think they would review it. I know because I used to work for them, its all about the money. No wonder why they say its more like finance first.... But good luck anyway

Absolutely avoid them. I've been member for 3 years and when I tried to cancel my subscription I went to a total pain, result I spend DAYS at the phone trying to talk to customer service and being bounced from office to office with no luck and honestly I could feel this was done on purpose. As a result they sucked £60 from my account plus lots of phone calls and my precious time. Avoid. (read more)

Would not recommend this club to anyone, unless you dont care about your money. It is impossible to cancel their membership without loosing money. I've been a member of FF for 2 years and barely visited it during last year. So I've been paying for nothing for a year and when finally decided to terminate my membership, was told that I had to pay for one month more! All what they care about is money, but not you! i used to be a Personal Trainer for Fitness First and their customer service and after care is absoloutly shocking. Inductions not being done members unable to leave cos they have been tied into contracts they didnt understand it's totally shocking how they treat people. I went to work for another large chain and when i told them i was going they terminated my contract immediately and told me not to come back.

SHOCKING, MONEY GRABBING, IGNORANT, SELF CENTRED GYM CHAIN thats all i can say about them

Today I Cancelled my membership to FF. I signed up via there web page, I am always busy and thought this would be a quick and effective way, I was wrong. The web page told me there had been an error in payment and to try again in five minutes. So I did, same error occurs. So I decide to wait and visit my local FF asap and sign up there. I understand that fitness first will close/sell up to 50 unprofitable gyms soon.?will they give members a chance to cancel their contracts,as in a prior warning of a closing date ,or will they just shut on a friday evening ,put a phone number in the window and take a few more payments with no overheads, will all the people that have stopped going but still continue to pay be notified that their gym has closed? do you think that they will do the right thing?. very dirty aromatherapy room not with any aroma (never had any aroma in the full year that I used the gym) but actually stink as it has not been clean in months, stained of cream products noted on tiles on the same spot for more than 5 weeks (which clearly means they have not been cleaned), sauna not cleaned at all.Very dirty gym and spa area. These guys are only interested in signing you up. As long as you appear interested they treat you nice but once you object to their terms and conditions things take a nasty turn pretty quickly.
