Considering young children grow out of their shoes so quickly, Clarks shoes are ridicilously expensive. I stupidly paid £28 for a pair of pink girl's shoes, size 5, for my newly walking toddler. She wore them three times before I found she needed the next size. And funnily enough the shoes looked really worn. Clarks do have some good sales though and the best thing is to buy shoes ahead! Their customer service is also very good. The staff seem knowledgable and dedicated and can talk to... (read more)

not impressed that clarks only do a very very small selection of shoes in a H width, both my girls are H width and its a nightmare finding shoes to fit. (read more)

I recently visited the Clarks shop in Worthing to buy a pair of shoes for my 15 month old granddaughter. We chose a pair of boots which she immediately wore. They were marked down from 42 to 25 pounds. However, when we got to the till we were told that there had been a mistake and the shoes were actually 42pounds. As my grand daughter was actually wearing the shoes I reluctantly paid the extra seventeen pounds. I was very upset at the attitude of the staff who seemed to think that it was... (read more)

i'd give clarkes a 3 for comfort but the styles of the shoes and fittings like 1/2 sizes have greatly diminished it is now mainly stiletoes or flats what happened to good old fashioned strong thick heeled shoes! (read more)

I like the way that SOME shoes look quite nice but, most of the shoes are either really ugly. Their school shoes are completely horrible and unsutible. I was looking up girls school shoes on the Clarks Shoes website and all I could see was ugly shoes, high heels and boots! Clarks used to be such a great place to shop but now it has really let itself go! (read more)

I just got some clarks daisy pets shoes for my daughter. she is really satisfied with them. They are normal black school shoes but have pretty black jewls on them. The insole lifts up and inside the heel there is a little doll and a dog. On the bottom of the shoe there is a clear plastic window which lets you see whats inside. my daughter shows them off at school. They are great shoes! the only problem is the bump that forms when she lifts up the heel after a few times to get to the girl and dog (read more)

Clarks Shoes - My daughter has only been in reception for less than 2 weeks and the back of the sole of her shoes are badly frayed with great chunks missing! All she has done in run around like a normal child. I took them back to the shop but they only had one pair in her size - black patent, not really suitable for school! I was offered vouchers in exchange but can't send my daughter to school without shoes so will have to wait till the weekend to phone lots more branches to see what's in... (read more)

When my daughter was small I had a couple of pairs seemingly badly fitted, I didn't return as a customer until recently now she is 9 and I have a son of 5. Alas, now have had another bad experience where the machine measured a half size wrong for her and then my son was fitted a whole size wrong apparently just because they didn't have his size and they said it would be ok to go up a size and down a width. I feel it is disappointing that they trade of a brand name which has been around for... (read more)

I think Clarks is a very good shop I would rather buy one pair of higher priced shoes than 7 pairs of cheaper ones and the shoe care works fantastically. (read more)

I used to buy Clarks shoes for my children for the last few years, however my branch in Lewisham, S.E. London never seems to have the sizes available, there are a few styles on display but due to the lack of sizes available I have just stopped buying shoes from there, I have 3 children and it is a nightmare when going in and I am only able to get shoes for 1 child, I have just given up now and buy Startrite or Geox which are excellent. The choice for Clarks shoes has gone downhill greatly. I haven't found any compromise with the quality however. My children walk to and from school every day each journey being 0.6 miles. The shoes were brought last September at the start of the school year and are still going strong. The girls are comfortable and their feet are looked after. The two pairs cost me £60 but I feel it was well worth it.
If Clarks could just expand the range of styles and available sizes I would be happier.

Clarks provide a poor older girls' school shoe selection to start with; they rarely have many sizes in stock; there is no help from the shop in finding correct size; the Clarks head office has run out of nearly all G width girls' school shoes already from the Spring new catalogue - they only offer 2 shoes in a G anyway now; plus the children's shoe fitters I've found to nearly always be poor at fitting. Go to shops selling Startrite & equivalent - they are cheaper or the same price and... (read more)

We tried to purchase a pair of school shoes and they had not got any in my daughters size so we asked if they could order a pair but they said no and gave us a customer ordering card and we looked at it and we had to pay '£3.00 extra which was annoying but clarks is the only place/brand that do children's school shoes.it was half term so they should have ordered more shoes in various different sizes (read more)

I would rather travel around looking than put her in anything else. Startarite is another good shoe. I leave the shop knowing that my daughters feet are safe. Feet are for life they need protecting. I work in a school and I see children wearing cheap shoes, and when they are running in the playground their shoes are falling off! They can't skip in them and they are always complaining their feet hurt. They wear these fashionable light weight ballerina style with no support at all. One... (read more)

I have a daughter who will be eleven in October. She needs a size 51/2-6 in Navy. She would love to have a pair of shoes with a buckle / T -bar. There is nothing! The only choice we have are lace up when the heels are too high, with platform soles and heavy to wear. In most schools the rule for footwear is a 1cm sole and 2 1/2 cm heel maximum. The lowest we can find at Clarks is 3 1/2cm heels. It's about time shoe manufacturers realised that children are taller now, with bigger shoe sizes... (read more)

It appears that the shop workers are put under enormous pressure to sell more shoe care products and handbags. I find this insulting to the customer and feel that it is demeaning for the staff. I will no longer shop with Clarks (read more)

With two weeks before school goes back, we tried to purchase black school shoes from our local Clarkes only to be told that they had just two styles, both in patent ... We felt embarrassed for the staff who were obviously trying to be helpful but continued our search to a private company spending £40.00. A loss for Clarkes (read more)

I went to buy some summer shoes yesterday for my seven year old daughter, and I was appalled at the lack of styles that Clarks had to offer. They were either too high, or the only suitable sandal for school was black, which is great for the winter but not for those hot school days!! I feel that no thought has gone into this seasons and last seasons selection. Come on Clarks, do you want your loyal customers to go elsewhere?? (read more)

I have always bought Clarks shoes for my kids, relying on their reputation. However, I have in the last couple of years become extremely disillusioned! The shoes wear out too quickly and look scruffy within a week of wear. However, a positive note - at least they are worn out before they grow out of them, which doesn't say much as they do not allow enough room for more than a couple of months anyway!! I now buy Tesco school shoes, and they are fab, and at a fraction of the price of Clarks!! (read more)

I purchased a pair of school shoes at a Clarks shoe shop relying on their good reputation. The shoes have worn down at the heel by over a quarter of an inch in less than a month. I would not recommend them to anyone any more. Kids wear their shoes all day and they need to be better quality than this. (read more)

I agree totally with 'mum in the kitchen' my little brother and sister both used to get shoes in Clarkes, I don't know if it was just the shop in my home town but they both got trainers and school shoes and they were marked and damaged very easily and we stopped taking them there. As for Clarkes "So called" good reputation, where I come from in Scotland they have a very negative rep!!!!

Buy Clarks girls shoes and risk wasting your money - that's the experience of my friends and I this year. The formal girl's summer shoes have leather which is much thinner than usual - as a result the shoes are in a poor state after 8 weeks' wear. Doodles have suffered the most because Clarks have removed the protective rubber strip from across the toe - resulting in heavy wear, tears and holes after just a couple of weeks wear. (read more)

I too have found this; not only in Clarks, but also in some other shoe stores. And they sell these shoe cleaning products at ridiculously high prices too! I ALWAYS decline.
