Good Points: Excellent food, wide selection of wines and lack of constant music.
Bad Points: The menu is not always as inspiring as it can be.
General comments: If you find yourself anywhere near Newark in North Notts you must make time to visit the Caunton Beck, approx 8 miles NW of Newark.
This is a pub with an excellent and unpretentious restaurant attached. It is impossible to go in to 'The Beck', as it is familiarly known, for just a drink. The sight of well presented food constantly emerging from the kitchen and its olfactory effects will soon have you reaching for a menu.
A regular feature, which we are yet to try, is the gourmet evenings they hold alternately here and in their sister pub in Lincoln. These are usually themed and for a fixed price attendees are taken through a set menu with accompanying wines usually from a region that makes up the theme.
This is not the cheapest place to eat but it is one of the best.
