“Great Family Holiday!!!!!”

Written on: 04/05/2012 by BarryMDavis

Having read some of the reviews on Haven Riviere Sands before we went away we were worried what we might find when we got there. Luckily we were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice holiday park. We arrived at around midday and were told that check in hadn't started yet which we know when we booked it and we were supposed to check in a 4pm but when we came back at 2.30pm our caravan was ready. Check in was very quick and easy and when we got to our caravan it was very modern, clean,... (read more)

We are at Rivi re Sands now, preparing for our last evening on-site. Having read the reviews on here, we were a little concerned about the quality of holiday that we were about to have.
We needn't have worried. The camp is well presented. The staff are all friendly, although it takes a while to get used to their Cornish speed of working! The chippy is good, the food in the Bluff Inn is really good and the beer is good too. The entertainment do their best to do a good job without causing... (read more)

Caravan was dirty on arrival although a note was left saying it had been cleaned.Great if you want to spend the first 45 minutes of your holiday cleaning.
The caravan left a lot to be desired since holidaying in October, you don't expect the weather to be great.
However there were missing window wedges on nearly all windows which meant that they could not be closed properly. When the wind got up the curtains were blowing all over the place and it was freezing cold.

Absolutely disgusting to stay in Riviere Sands, Hayle. The "Exclusive" Caravan was "wonderfully" described on the website. A pack of lies. Disgusting and tacky. What a shame for such a beautiful location and county. Be truthful to the customer. Advertise truthfully. The Bluff Inn was absolutely disgusting. I had to give one star to each category because it is mandatory. Overall score is zero. Disgusting. (read more)

After booking almost a year in advance at a cost of £581 for the half term week in a prestige caravan, our entire family (taking up 4 caravans) were looking forward to a great break at Riviere Sands. First impressions can make or break a holiday and when you're greeted by the most miserable Receptionist I've ever encountered, it wasn't the best start. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children (aged 6 & 3). We were on a Sun newspaper break and stayed in a 3 bed static caravan. We're massive fans of St Ives and if you're looking for a cheapish way to visit then you won't go wrong. I have to say that I wasn't expecting miracles as we paid peanuts for a 3 night break at the beginning of the half term holidays. However I was very pleasently surprised. Haven Riviere Sands was nothing but a dissapointment to me. After arriving at 9am from my 6 hour drive (missing all the day traffic) i called into reception to ask if there was any way i could get into my caravan any earlier than the 4pm check in time, the staff were rude and unhelpful and told me bluntly NO. Lovely location, right on the cliff top, views out to sea across st ives bay to st ives itself. Direct (if steep!)access to beach, make this wonderful, particulary if you have kids. The worst feature is the pool, its small, basic, and very desperatly in need of cleaning (thats the pool area, rather than the pool itself!)To be honest, Haven would probably be best off knocking it down, I would not let my kids in it! We are a family of 5, 2 adults 3 kids aged 3, 8 and 10 and we stayed in Riviera Sands during the April half term 2009.

In the past, we've always tried to avoid this kind of holiday - to be honest we didn't know what we were missing! At £250 for the week it would have been an absolute bargain if we'd just used it as a base to explore the many attractions in the local area.

Just got back from Riviere Sands. The site shop (not actually on the site!), is extortionate. £5.04 for a small frozen pizza and 6 finger rolls!. The club "entertainment" was not entertaining at all and SO loud that we only went there once!. The local pub that is affiliated to the site (The Bluff Inn), sold plasticky overpriced food. The site shop is directly outside the site, so to complain its not on site is a little unfair! Its also clearly stated in brochure. The prices are compatable with any other similar "local" shop. You never get "tesco" prices, and its unrealistic to think you should.

Haven Holidays, Riviere Sands was the worst caravan stay i have ever had and we were staying in a Superior Plus Caravan. The weather might not have been on our side for the four day stay but the accommodation should not have been so shabby for the price paid. the Park itself was grey and boring too! Whilst Havens cleaning standards have not always been up to par, they really have made great strides in improving it. You should now find a card in your caravan stating the name of the cleaner who cleaned it, and inviting comments, this has really helped in my experience. Did you complain about it? I have always found that at Riviere Sands they are always more than happy to help, with it being a small site all the staff know each other personally, so if one person lets the team down (by not cleaning properly for example)they know exactly who it is! You don't get that on the larger sites, and, personnally, I much prefer that. The problems I had at Hafan Y Mor nearly put me off Haven for good!

Riviere Sandss is a lovely site. I feel this is the best Haven site there is! A lot smaller than most, but much more friendly for that. All the staff know each other, and they get to know the guests because of it. Yes, parts of the site are a little tired round the edges, and a lick of paint would cheer things up a bit, but generally a great site, and a lovely place. Nice being able to have a stroll along the beach in the morning to The Bluff for breakfast. Booked again for next year already! (read more)

I wouldn't say that 6 hour drive there and back was justified and though it was a safer enviroment for our kids than Devon Cliffs it still fell short of the overall quality at Devon Cliffs last year.
That said the beach is wonderful, just wish the weather had allowed us on it a bit more. The chip shop was also excellent and the main thing of course, the kids enjoyed it.

Myself, husband and 4 children stayed at riviera sands for 1 week, i must say that Hayle is a beautiful place and the beach is stunning. The down fall was it wasn't not pushchair friendly at all on the beach very steep steps and rocks. The Haven site it self was a let down, you had to pay for everything and if it rained the kids could only really play in the arcade, which cost money of course. The in door pool was free but wasn't heated at all so my kids wouldn't go in it and i couldn't take my youngest kids in because they screamed at how cold it was. The staff was friendly but after the second night we heard the same gags and same stuff although they did put different entertainers on most nights, i myself didn't rate these because what 4 and 6 year old wants to listen to love songs?
<br/>I would go to Hayle again but would not stop at Haven site, over priced for the standard of caravan we had . i would rate this a family value holiday as 6/10
