“Don't go to Butlins!”

Visited here in November 2012 and was absolutely astounded how the council have allowed Butlins to operate when their accommodation is definitely not up to health and safety standards. When we complained that there was no bathing facilities as the bath in our apartment had literally rusted so badly all the enamel had come off, we were then moved to a disabled unit which quite frankly stunk so bad of excrement that even with a whole Tin of air fresher nothing could get rid of the smell. Room clean and bright with nice decor, comfortable bed and chairs. Liked the different colour lights. 5 stars. Found some staff in the resturant not very helpful. Wow,we went to butlins last year Easter and it was great.Amazing food,great facilities and awesome staff.Splash water world was brilliant fun for kids and adults,especially loved the shows in centre stage!Our accommodation was silver but fantastic,clean and tidy.Everything I expected and more.Going there this summer!There was nothing I didn't like.It was all amazing,but it could be improved by making it more easy to get around the park. Booked a group booking for 39 people ranging from 1 year old to 52 years old for a 21st birthday weekend over the Halloween Weekend. The security staff constantly ID'd the younger ones, not once but constantly. Couldnt/wouldnt tell us the fancy dress up night so we decided to do it Saturday Night. Guess what, it was Sunday Night. hi just got back from a 4 night break in the ocean hotel. This was fantastic! as for the rest of the resort save your money! no wonder there is illness in butlins. not enough cleaners in the main section toilets disgusting! You need to pay for a lot more entertainment now and it seems to be an endless pit for money to go in! So we wanted to take the kids away somewhere fun for early birthday presents and to have a break ourselves...it was well worth it! We stayed at Butlins Shoreline in March 08 and then at Butlins Ocean Hotel in October 10. We found both to be fantastic. The rooms were clean, comfy and well designed for our family of 4, then 5. The staff, from the cleaners to the lifeguards to the redcoats were falling over themselves to help us and make our holiday special. Yes the restaurants are pricey but the food was lovely. The entertainments are perfect for our daughters (age 2-9) We will DEFINITELY be going back again. (read more)

First I would like to state the staff are fantastic...now for my rant.
Accommodation: Well we had the basic chalet. BIG mistake. Very small, dingy and dirty. Kind of place you don't want to use the bathroom. I know 'you get what you pay for' but honestly I've seen 2 star hotels in greece that are better!
Food: please don't go full or half board if you care about what you eat. Dining in the zoo (main restaurant) is a truly shocking experience. We had dinner there the first night...and never...

I used to visit Butlins with my parents & sister when I was a kid, so decided to take my wife & kids there. I decided to stay at the Bognor Regis resort, instead of Skegness where I used to go, what a mistake. The adverts say golden sandy beaches, having never been to Bognor before, it's only got pebble beaches, I say pebbles more like rocks.

Me and my friend and 3 kids have just returned from Butlins Bognor Regis. We stayed in the gold accommodation which was awful. The bathroom was dirty and very small. The kitchen area needed a good clean, and so did the floor. The bedrooms were basic but a bit cleaner and the beds comfortable.
It's expensive to eat and drink out and there's also a lot of things that you have to pay extra for.
The entertainment was good for both us and the kids. I don't think it was value for money.

we have been to butlins 7 times and it is absolutely great.We have always been to gold and it is always spotless and comfy.The entertainment for children and adults is great.The food there is amazing,so much choice.The rides there are fun for children and adults.The daytime shows are just as good as nightime.Theres lots for children of all ages.I would certainly recommend that you should go there because you get value for your money and it is worth it. We stayed in gold apartments which were nice, no problems that ruined our stay although a few minor issues hot water tap in kitchen didnt turn on full and also it got very cold in the evenings, despite heating on from 6pm.
Resort spotless and full of entertainment and fun for the children aged 3yrs plus - not much for the under 3`s and my little 2 yr old did get quite bored and...

Queued once, never again, for two hours to get a swim in the minute swimming pool which was shoulder to shoulder it was so crowdwed - think there was water??? we where there the week after yourselves and it was awful and certainly not cheap, the staff where rude and food was unfit for human consumption and my 5 year old sons life was put at risk by the incompetence of the so called team. honestly i do believe its as close to hell on earth as ya gonna get!!!

We have stayed at Butlins several times and I must say this is far better than our holiday to Pontins last year.
My children love the indoor funfair and play areas.
They have updated most of the apartments which is good as last time we stayed the carpet looked like it had seen better days.
Again the entertainment was brill and we even saw Austin and Laura from the X-factor.

I really enjoyed my stay and I am sure you will too. I would like to have known about the food part before we arrived. Plenty for adults to do, e.g bowling, pool and swimming. Bowling and pool you have to pay. Staff are very helpful when you have a problem. The swimming pool is fab for adults and children. Changing rooms fab too. They give you a token to use for locker so no need to take your money with you. It was my first visit to a Butlins and I really enjoyed it. (read more)

This review makes me sound like a teetotal snob, but I'm not, we had a few drinks in the chalet with the kids tucked up in bed, and I'm happy in a two-man tent in a field in the pouring rain, but Butlins has certainly changed for the worse since I had my holidays there as a kid. Butlins at Bognor Regis was horrible. Drunks banged on our door at night the accommodation was filthy accommodation that smelt of damp. (read more)

Hadn't been before to Butlins and didn't know what to expect. The Skyline Pavilion was spotlessly clean and full of things to entertain without having to spend a penny (unless you wanted to). Entertainment was great - the robot was amazing. The shows in the evening were great for all ages. The Shoreline Hotel was really nice. Clean and well set out. Butlin's seriously needs to get its act together inside its entertainment venues, Centre Stage and Reds.
They spend £1000's on entertainment which is great but they don't make the venues very comfortable. They expect people to queue for 2 hours before the doors open and even then you may not get a seat.
Now they have these big hotels, more people, more hassle, yet Centre Stage and Reds are still the same size.
If you don't like queuing or standing up in venues all night then don't bother...

We all really had a great time and booked again as soon as we got home for September and have already booked for next year as well. We would strongly recommend Butlins at Bognor.
The redcoats were fantastic, as were the cast in centre stage, I cannot fault anything at all.
If you don't want to eat in the fast food places all the time, you can go into the half board restaurant and pay for an all you can eat 3 course meal in there instead, which was fantastic value for money and it really was...

Had a really great weekend despite the accommodation at Butlins in Bognor Regis, which I wouldn't let my dog sleep in.

Butlins in Bognor Regis is an OK resort. The Butlins shows and resort entertainment was fabulous, and the food was fab too! Unfortunately, the furniture fell apart in the bronze accommodation. There were dead insects in the room, and dirt on the floor where it hadn't been properly cleaned. It was too dirty to visit again, but I would go again, but only for a weekend and in the gold or deluxe accommodation. All staff we encountered at Butlins in Bognor Regis were wonderful; from the redcoats to the guys in the shops and cinema. Very suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There were a lot of people there who needed specialist care and seemed to really love it. Be sure that you are booking the break you want, because if you are an all adult party and book during family week, they will still accept your booking. Our three year old loved it at Butlins in Bognor Regis. £180 for 3 days just before Christmas is real value. We endured it: lumpy beds, noise, etc etc.
Go for the kids, don't expect Center Parcs, and appreciate the value.
Silver apartment OK. The first one had a broken window, we reported it and they simply gave us the keys to another apartment.

What appears to be on the surface a cheap day out compared to other theme parks turns out not to be the case at Butlins in Bognor Regis. Many things are extra inside. Plus there is no parking for day visitors and the nearest council car park opposite the entrance is £6 for a stay of over four hours! I have never put so much money into a parking meter in one go! We got it on a good deal, so the value for money was excellent! We stayed in Standard accommodation and it was great - very basic but what do you expect? Butlins Bognor Regis - Basically their standard rooms are absolutely disgusting and when you complain the only reply you get is 'you can always leave' - which we did. The room had a broken window, a broken cupboard, excrement up the toilet, cigarette burns on the settee (which was supposed to be used as a bed) and also in the carpet. A light that had burnt out to the point where the shade was burnt. A fire which had a terrible burning smell and sheets which were left outside (in the rain)... (read more)

I have not commented on Minehead as I have never been there. Maybe it is not as bad as Bognor Regis. However, reviews are a personal opinion and my review is not incorrect. When we arrived there it was the most disgusting dump I had ever had the misfortune of going to so unless you were there the same time as us, I would suggest you let independent people make independent comments.

thanks for the review was thinking of trying bognor,but after reading this think i'll give it a miss we always go to skeggy its really good there the rooms are really clean and the kids really enjoy it plus there's loads of stuff to do outside butlins. Eastgate market is massive ,nature land seal sanctuary ,excite skateboard park ,and lots more. try it ,it may change your mind about butlins thanks again for saving us having to waste a load of money and time.......

Went to Bognor Regis in July, there is a lot of building work in progress do not know when it will be completed.
A reasonable place to go for a weekend or midweek break but there is not enough to keep you entertained for a whole week although the kids will probably be happy.
