I highly recommend this vacuum! We have owned the Dyson DC07 animal for about four years now and we love it! We have two long-haired cats that shed fur like nobody's business so we vacuum quite often. I am very impressed that it has lasted this long. I would rather pay more money for a product that will last longer then have to buy a new vacuum every year or two. This is ultimately better for the environment and it saves me time from having to research products. Though I do have to... (read more)

I bought the cleaner approximately 2 years ago and made the purchase because i wanted a powerful and relible machine and i was lured in by the 'king of all vacuums' branding but my opinion: It's a useless pile of cr&p. Suction dies off very rapidly despite dismantling and cleaning the thing after every few times it's used. The 'No loss of suction' sticker has to be some kind of sick joke surely. The suction power has died off now to the point of this thing being fit only for landfil. One... (read more)

Bought this to replace our Dyson DC01 a couple of years ago.It is quite heavy to use so may not suit an older person. We have a labrador who when he casts leaves hairs all over the place. The DC07 makes short work of picking up the hairs. Our house is a mix of carpets and hard wood flooring, so the hard floor setting is a must for us. The mini turbine head is brilliant for removing dust and hair from carpeted stairs. Our Dyson is used daily and we have had to have the motor & hose replaced... (read more)

I bought the DC07 Animal about 6 years ago and, considering I paid £330 for it, expected a nice, reliable vacuum. I was trading up from a 5th-hand, 25 year old, bagged Panasonic, so I was really excited about my purchase.
This hoover is probably the worst purchase I have ever made! The pet turbo attachment blocked within two weeks, and I'd only used it four times! Okay, so I had long hair back then, but the only other furball in our house was a shorthaired cat, and she only ever stayed in...

Hose is too short, cleaner is more flimsy than earlier Dyson cleaners (would not have thought THAT was possible!), the dust container is smaller than on any of the other Dyson cleaners that I have owned over the past 10 years (this is my 4th...), the brush bar defaults to ON when cleaner is turned off, it seems that the switch for the brushbar is attached, in some way, to the on/off switch, and this is very confusing when cleaning. The attached 'tools' are a joke, They are really not fit for... (read more)

I absolute love my Dyson Animal. Have had since they first went on sale. It gets beat up in a household with three cats, various pile of carpet, and wood floors. I have wooden stairs, so it gets carried up and down quite a bit with the hose stretched to the limit. I love that it is so easy to take the vacuum apart to clean and replace parts. I've had to replace both hoses now, but given the amount of use, I think that's perfectly acceptable. The canister gets held on with a... (read more)

I am an owner of the model DC07 Animal and bought it as a replacement for an earlier model thinking that it would last me a long time and cause very little trouble. The body is robust however it is supposed to continue to pick up dirt not move it around. It should be easier to strip down and keep clean than it is. (read more)

I think the Dyson DC07 Animal is too heavy and awkward to be carried up and down stairs unless you are young and fit. Exceptionally noisy. I have had to replace upper (flexi hose) and lower hose and now need a new motor for it. I am cutting my losses and dumping it in order to buy a vacuum as advised by 'Which' costing a lot less (albeit requiring a bag). (read more)

We had a family hand-down of a Dyson DC01, that was worn out in a few places. We spent about £25 getting all the worn bits replaced and it worked really well. Much better than the 'Henry' before it. It was messy to empty and the filters needed cleaning/replacing every month. For all that though it generally was very reliable and worked well until the fan on the motor spindle actually sheared off, jamming the motor solid. It was essentially worn-out. It had been going for about 11-12... (read more)

We didn't get our Dyson DC07 Animal with all the attachments, so I tried the furniture sweeper tool from our Hoover. (It never worked well with the Hover since there was not enough suction to make it work properly). I works absolutely GREAT with the Dyson and REALLY cleans furniture and the cars wonderfully.
We are very glad we got the Dyson, it's embarassing how much dirt it pulls up from the carpet, but that's great!
I'd recommend it to anyone that feels that their vacuum is lacking in...

I have a dog that sheds all year round and always struggled to keep on top of the vacuuming - hoped this would help as would not normally pay so much.
It is better than my old vacuum cleaner but not enough to justify the extra cost I don't think.

The thing sounded as if it was full of marbles when I first assembled it and turned it on. Customer service was minimally helpful. Still sounds that way whenever it doesn't like the thickness of the surface it's not sucking anything off of. I hate this cleaner and feel like a dummy for having paid $500 for it. My advice, buy a Eureka for a fraction of the price and spend those hours reading instead of cleaning all the parts of your vacuum cleaner in the vain hope that it will function as... (read more)

The DC07 is simple to assemble, the various parts fitting together with a satisfying CLICK.
Once assembled, the 'Animal' is a gaudy, in-your-face beast, unlikely to blend in with your decor unless you're Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen. Large and fairly heavy, too.
Its first outing was across our new upstairs carpet. Amazing! After emptying the large dust canister for the third time I expected to find bald patches, so much fluff did the Dyson suck up!
On open spaces you can really see the difference...

I am very disappointed in this appliance. We have only owned this Dyson for 6 months and 2 months into it, the beater bar began to rub the housing intermittently making a horrendous noise. While the noise is still a problem, I have yet to notice the difference between this vacuum and other less expensive brands.
Also, while cleaning stairs with the detachable and unit, the hose kinks unless you lay the vacuum on it side while using making the hand unit totally useless.
Several of the...

We have just replaced a Dyson DC04 that we've had for 8 years!!! It has come to the end of its days but gave me many years of great usage and has finally stopped picking up as well as it did, so it was time to buy a new one. We bought the Animal because of two reasons 1) we have several allergy sufferers in our household and 2) we have 1 dog and 2 cats that tend to like leaving their hair in my carpets! The Dyson Animal lives up to it name. We hoovered our floors (which had only just been... (read more)

We got the Dyson D07 Animal about 2 years ago. I am so disappointed and want to kick myself for paying $500 for this vacuum. I would say that 75% of the time, this vacuum doesn't pick up the debris on my floors. If there is the smallest bit of paper towel (dogs like to get into toilet paper rolls) on the floor, all this vacuum does is shred the paper and spread it all over the floor. It will not pick up dirt particles, such as sand, seems to just move them around the floor. The head of... (read more)

Actually, the sand/dirt is on tile and the toilet paper scraps are on my carpet. Any kind of soft paper scraps on the carpet simply shred into many smaller pieces and it just won't pick them up. I have to take the hose out, which I find completely ridiculous. I have 2 puppies, who, unfortunately, have not broken out of the "shred paper" stage. Thanks for your advice, nevertheless. I honestly don't see myself investing any more money on any type of Dyson. I will stick with my Dirt Devil in the future.

I am very, very disappointed with the Dyson DC07 Animal vacuum cleaner. I am a great admirer of Dyson as an inventor, the concept, the designer look and the initial performance of the machine, but the list of faults and breakdown from 2 years onwards beggars belief for a £200+ machine, which was regularly looked after, cleaned and cared for.
It started with the hose splitting and accessory tools falling apart, and then progressed to persistent cut-outs. "This is a common fault with Dysons"...

I bought my Dyson DC07 Animal in 2002, after a few years of bashing it against walls whilst cleaning it was starting to get a bit damaged. I called Dyson customer service to ask for their advice, fully expecting them to say tough buy a new one or we'll send out an engineer for £80 plus parts and labour etc. But no this was not the case at all! I admit all the damage was my fault and they said they would send out an engineer (the next day!) maximum cost would be £55 to completely fix anything... (read more)

I bought my Dyson DC07 Animal about 2 1/2 yrs ago and although it was expensive has worked out good value.. I fondly named it Derek (The Dyson) anyway Derek has been very good at his job he does sometimes get clogged but that's usually my own fault as I pick up things I shouldn't. but when suction is lost usually a blockage will be in the U pipe and it's easily shifted,, I've found pens etc in and I bet any other machine would break if a pen was picked up......it's scary when you first use... The Dyson DC07 Animal is the third Dyson I have owned. I first had a DC01, then a DC03, and now the Animal. Bought machine the Dyson DC07 Animal 2 years ago, gradually been losing suction (have cleaned it, washed filter and all the bits and pieces they tell you to do)and motor finally went 1 week before warranty expiry date. Having a long haired German shepherd I was quite prepared to pay over the odds for a cleaner that would keep the dog hairs at bay.
Unfortunately the brush of the Dyson is constantly clogged with hair (when it does manage to get them off of the carpet) and is a nightmare to unclog!

I got my Dyson DC07 Animal in january and have just had the fourth visit from the engineer. So far the cylcone unit and bin have been replaced and the motor has been replaced. I bought an extra filter so that I could wash them frequently but it seems to only work properly when the filter is brand new. We have had this Dyson about about 2 weeks, the power this vacuum has compared to my other Dyson is noticeable, the animal hair tool really picks up even the finest hair. When we got it, the wand cap was fitted wrong, a quick call to the Dyson customer services and they sent out a replacement, i got it within 3 days. I understand that you are reffering to vacuuming hard/solid flooring when you have problems picking up some bits of debris. This is because you have a dyson that isn't specfically designed for hard flooring, but is aimed at carpets and rugs. With hard flooring, you need one of the latest dysons. The latest uprights have "all floors" models that have a large debris channel feature which stops the cleaning head from pushing dirt around on the floor. However, I think that the cylinder dyson DC11 is the best all rounder, especially if you have a home with mainly hard floors.
