This Dyson DC04 Absolute machine has been broken more than in use. It doesn't suck up anything other than dust and it's the worst hoover I've ever owned for reliability and I've owned a few. I've just given up on it as the repairs barely last 6 mths so it's going to the tip. I also own a DC1 which is still going strong and is the best Dyson because it's lightweight, reliable and sucks dust and bits. Not so great for pet hair it has to be said - neither was the DC4.

I was pursuaded by the kind offer of my husband to buy me a Dyson DC 04 Absolute about 3 years ago as I believed that although expensive it would be a brilliant cleaner given Dyson's reputation for good design! HOWEVER,I have since been very puzzled and assumed I had not been using it correctly (the instructions with the machine were minimal).
Today I have accessed this site hoping to find out where I have been going wrong, only to read in other reviews that the very awkward fitting and use of t ...

I have had the Dyson DC04 Absolute vacuum cleaner for about 6 trouble free years. I got through a couple of upholstery attachments, because I use them on the stairs, and I MEAN use! The cleaner suddenly stopped the other day and it smelled bad. I thought the worst and cursed the fact that I had just decided not to renew my service agreement, as things were going so well. I toyed with idea of just going out and replacing it! I phoned the helpline and spoke to a delightful lady who assured me that ...

We started off getting the original Dyson DC01. That was the most awful vacuum cleaner that anybody could surely ever get! Then we noticed that everybody that we knew were getting DC04s. We decided, then, to get one for ourselves to see what it was like.

    It seemed so brilliant!-
    >Powerful brushbar
    >Strong suction
    >Easy to empty

Then the trouble started - the wires kept detaching from their sockets within the switch, and about once every other month we had to pay £20 for our local ...

The amount of rubbish that comes up each time you use the Dyson DC04 Absolute vacuum cleaner is astonishing! It is much better than the old Panasonic we had. 100% suction is a real bonus even when completely full. Hepa Filter, brush control and the hose that reaches to the top of the stairs. The clear bin and cyclonic action allows you to see what's in the carpet. Easy to dismantle if there is a blockage. Our DC04 finally gave up after about 6 years, so we went and got another Dyson, but a newer ...

Everyone raved on about how much dust the Dyson Absolute picked up. I cannot fault this, and I don't think it's different to other vacuums, it just makes the dust visible. For me though, it was the worst £200 ever spent.
I find it cumbersome and hard to manoeuvre, and you cannot get under beds or furniture. The tools are difficult to use, as the handle is so bulky it just gets in the way, or the head falls off. The hose is prone to splitting, and instead of stretching, it pulls the vac ...

Three years hard use of the Dyson DC04 Absolute and only a split flexible hose to report. This was obtained quickly, easily and free (still just under warranty) from Dyson and arrived two days later.

Other than that, a great vacuum cleaner. It does tend to block quite easily, and bits of string and other debris winds itself around the beater bar making a racket, but that's about as far as my complaints go.

Using a conventional "bag" cleaner after one of these feels like a total waste of ...

I just bought a DC04 absolute + and the suction is brilliant, especially on carpets. But on hard flooring it is pants!. It does not manoeuvre well and you just cant get into spaces that you really should be able to, like under the radiators. The hose does come out easily but the tools attach at the handle, which again makes it hard to use as the handle just gets in the way. I think the problem is that the thing has been over-designed to be honest. A good way to get men to hoover but thats about ...

We have had this Dyson for at least 4 years, i think that this must be a one off, it has not lost any suction, and it has had no replacement filters, we have had no problems with it apart from a new brush bar, and 2 weeks ago my 2 year old pushed it over and snapped the wand, that is all that is wrong with it. I can reach all the way up the stairs (14 steps) with the hose without too much effort. i have just bought another Dyson, a DC07 Animal for downstairs, and now this DC04 will get a rest cl ...
