“seems an ok bike”

★★★☆☆

written by gwizz on 12/02/2013

Iv brought a 2012 black Honda 125,its 8 months old, with 2000 on the clock,iv been riding it 6 weeks, its a great first bike to learn on,looks good, its nippy around town, great on fuel/insurance.Its my first Honda,to be honest the build quality is not great, being Honda live on there build quality sales Pitch.first to second gear is a pain, you will catch neutral, down shifting is a pain to,does not really like it,iv also found that when you hit 62 it slips out of gear, the back wheel also kicks out, which does not feel Safe.all in all its good bike, wish I saved up and brought another brand, you get what you pay for

written by on 13/05/2010

i have had this bike from 200 miles on the clock. its naw dun 7000 in a year in that time it has contiuly let me down, the gear box has needed 3 serveses. it keeps droping out of gear (mainly in 2nd). the cluch also has a tedency to ingage itself.....

on the bright sido thow, when it is working its a magical bike. it will take all the corners you throw at it and u will run out off balls in the corners befot this bike dus. the exeliration is a bit slow but its good inuf for a lerner. and when the engin had wormed up and dun 30 miles or so then u have good exeliration.

im noit a small chap (14 st) and it will still pull 80pmh. and ma cuzen who is only 8st got 90 out of it sum how (or so he claimed)

stats wise. the tiers were well and have had 1 puncher and it was £50 4 a new non honda inc fitting so that was good i thort.
it dus around 120-160 mpg depending on how u drive it, i did a economik drive and got around 160 miles from full tank to when i was neer empty. then i drove it like a nutter and ran out from a full tank at around 120 miles but thats still rather good.

all in all this would be an amasing bike it i could trust it not to brake, from what other ppl say its just my bike that dus this thow.

MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SPEAK...."ENGLISH"....SO-CALLED...!
MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO SPEAK..."ENGLISH",THINK THEY ARE A CUT ABOVE THE REST!...WELL, SORRY "MATE",BUT WITH ALL YOUR CLOTHES OFF....YOU ARE JUST SAME AS ALL THE REST!!
SO TRY AND HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF UNDERSTANDING AT SOME PEOPLE WHO MAY BE DYSLEXIC,ETHNIC,HANDICAPPED IN SOME WAY,OR JUST PLAIN BAD SPELLERS.
I HAVE RIDDEN A 2008 CBR 125 FOR FOUR YEARS,ABSOLOUTELY TROUBLE-FREE,IT'S A GREAT LITTLE BIKE!

Yeah, I have to agree with the other comments. Anyone who writes this badly doesn't inspire any confidence whatsoever in their ability to give a valued opinion. And learn what MPG means - it's not how far you can go on a full tank! Sorry mate, but if you write this badly, you're just wasting your time and ours.

also unable to translate this into english but i would guess that the reliability issues were because of a lack of servicing/correct treatment rather than the build quality.

At least you have replied in a kind and constructive way,and NOT pulled the person down, even if you cannot understand his spelling!
You see, being a Northumbrian,[some people refer to my dialect as "Geordie"as in Newcastle upon tyne],I can understand every word that is written.
Now I am due to take delivery of a 2014 cbr 125,in part-exchange for my 2008 model of the same bike, which has never let me down,in all weathers, for the last four years.
5 stars all round for each criteria.
By the way,I am a born-again biker of 70 years of age,and can still
take the twisties with a lot of fun...it's all down to how you feel inside your head, and your experience on the roads!

The bike is great if you are looking for a cheap beginners bike, it has good value for money... but, it is damn slow and it looks as if you are riding on bicycle wheels!!
so if you are a beginner, not looking for any hassels and just want to get from A to B its a decent bike. If you want to feel as if your riding a real bike not an electrical toy i would rather reccomend an aprilia RS125 the price difference is large but it is truely worth it!

“Good points: ”

★★★☆☆

written by the elements600 on 08/10/2009

Good points:

* Reasonably priced and holds it's value well.
* Reliability and finding spare parts is unlikely to be much of an issue.
* Very cheap to run and is lighter than a feather.

Bad points:

* Slower than a dead slug!
* Doesn't feel too planted on the road at speed.

General Comments:

A few months ago I took my SV in for a service, and as I needed to do a few things whilst the bike was being sorted I was given a Honda CBR125R for the day. "Brilliant!" I thought, having a 125 again to have a bit of fun on for a bit.

Upon first getting on the bike, the thing that instantly struck me was how light it was. Honestly, there's no weight to it whatsoever. The bike gets on the move with no fuss, but god do you have to dime the throttle and cling on to those precious revs if you want it to go anywhere. First gear is very, very short and will only see you up to 10mph. Gears 2-5 are where it's at though and 6th offers minimal acceleration, as it's only really there to act as an overdrive to ease the engine on 70mph A/B roads and motorways though any overtaking will need to be planned with military precision. Once it's up to any sort of speed past 60 it begins to feel slightly unsteady because of the lack of weight.

Being a 125 though, it isn't going to be very thirsty and 70+ MPG should be achievable.

Would I recommend it? If you're after a cheap to run, easy method of getting from A to B, it's certainly up there with all the other 125s, of which there are many. But as with most 125s, it isn't quick, so if you go on faster out-of-city roads a lot, be prepared to hear that little engine scream.

To conclude, a decent and frugal city slicker, it'll make mince meat of traffic being so narrow and light and you should get a decent return on it when you go to sell it. But it begins to lose competence at higher speeds, so if your commute includes many faster roads, this bike may not be the one for you and as an all-rounder, there are better bikes for the job.

I found this review very helpful because... It covered everything that you would need to know about the bike good and bad points and an overall analysis on why you may or may not want to buy it.

Really impressed - got caught in the rain.. and enjoyed it still..usual Honda build quality..
