“cutting out and gear problem?”

★★☆☆☆

written by FLATOUT27 on 12/03/2013

Just recently purchased a cbr 125 in march 2013 brand new, when driving it home from the showroom it was smooth as silk and by far the best 125 i have ever ridden. However, after 2days of having it,i started it up one morning (sweet as a nut)and after travelling about 150yds came to a junction and it cut out on me. It took a few touches of the starter button to get it going again and took a while to get up to 3000 rpm? Even after this the bike seemed rather slugish and it seemed as if the clutch was dragging out, until after about 3 or 4 mile.I put it down to it being cold but it happend again that evening. I immediately contacted the dealer i bought it from and they collected the bike off me to keep overnight to see if the problem happened again the following morning from cold. I phoned the next day to see if the problem happened again and it hadnt. I asked were there any problems found and the reply i got was nothing was found except the clutch had been adjusted and it was on its limit?? Told them i hadnt adjusted anything and it was exactly the same as when i had it from the showroom. Anyway, i had the bike back and exactly the same thing happened, started, then cut out on me, then took several attempts to start it again to the point where you think your gonna flood the engine. I eventually got it started(again struggling to get it to 3000rpm)when after about 2 or 3mile rideing it it would go from 2nd gear into neutral and this happened on several occassions.I dont know if ive been sold the runt of the litter or what but for a brand new machine somethings not quite right.Taking it back to dealer tmrw for a different machine and if thats the same then im switching to yamaha!!

Seems like the problem is more with the dealership than the bike! Take it back and tell them to fix it under warranty, and not to call you until they've test rode it some distance and know it to be fixed!

The top speed on flat is 75mph - down hill about 87mph (slow) not bad for a first bike if your 5.4ft or smaller and are less than 9 stone.

I think this guy is a 2 stroke lover, so please don't listen to him. 87mph out of a 4 stroke 12bhp 125cc engine is awesome and unlike the 2 stroke racers(aprilla rs's and mitos) the engine does'nt need to be rebuilt every 3000 miles and the mpg is very good 80mpg not the 33mpg on the 2 strokes average.

Well said. My mate has an aprilia rs125 and he is constantly rebuidling the engine. My keeway speed does little over 70mph but it will go all day and it's done 15,000 miles and the engine is good as new. Milage is around 100miles per gallon. Unlike fuel hungry 2 strokes. 125's are learner bikes. Not super bikes. If you want a fast bike then pass your test!
