I was wondering how come Black Magic is no longer available in Australia. On reading all these comments I'm rather glad I can't get them any more. I am so fussy when it comes to food and considering I had an eating disorder something unhealthy has to be really tasty for me to eat and boy do they tick the boxes, so rich and sweet, thank god there is no coffee I wouldn't buy anymore, I wouldn't change them I love them all especially the hazelnut Praline.ps I'm eating them as we speak hehe (read more)

I bought some for the loved one this Easter and when opened we were both disappointed at the lack of choice. I fully agree with the remarks of all the previous reviewers regarding the deteriorating quality of these once-great chocolates. I am convinced they are not as dark (less cocoa content?) and all the intersting old centres have been consigned by Nestle to history. Only the flavour lingers on in my taste buds. I was given a box of Black Magic for the first time in years and was delighted because they were an old-time favourite. What a let-down....the chocolate isn't as dark or rich as before and the centres are all smooth, tasteless, sickly mush....nothing tasty at all. As soon as I started to mention them at work, my colleague knew what I was going to say,so I know it's not my taste-memory that's gone wrong.They are now very nasty chocolates. I haven't eaten B/M for several years & this year I received a gift of a box of B/M What a waste of calories, these chocs are for toothless old people. Where is the butterscoth? the coffee creme,the REAL toffee? all gone WHY? I was given a large box of black magic for Christmas but there were only six varieties of chocolate in it. What happened to the delicious cherry ones ( with real cherries), the brazil nut ones and my all time favourites - the coffee creams. In fact where can you get coffee creams now. My partner bought me a box of Black Magic chocolates at Christmas. These USED to be my favourite chocolates!! What happened to the brazil nut , hazel nut cluster, liquid cherry, marzipan and the other old ones that were always my favourites ? We used to have a box every week but stopped not long after the full selection stopped.We had a box this christmas and now I know why we stopped,because there is some missing.I can't understand why they don't sell a full box and the new one together. I completely and utterly agree with the reviewer above . Yesterday I had the biggest shock when I found out my mum's favourite box of chocolates have gone to the dogs ...my mum would turn over in her grave if only she knew.
What has happens to the rich dark chocolate , exuberant designs ...the cherry liqueur ...marzipan ...truffels etc.
Nestlé have ruined something that was very special to me and like the reviewer above I will never by this product again

What happened to the dark chocolate and the intense flavours. Best chocolates ruined. I thought they would have learned from what they did before when they produced flavoured solid chocolates that didnt sell. Dont they know their customers. I used to buy them for their dark chocolate and lucious filling. I can buy average plain chocolates from any other lidl store or similar. Disappointed!

I treated myself to a box of Black Magic chocolates as I had been working very hard and thought I deserved a treat. I had not had any for a few years and was really looking forward to delicious, sophisticated dark chocolates with an impressive variety of unusual fabulous fillings. What a disappointment! Called in to the local store and saw Black Magic Chocolates on offer couldnt resist. I tried 4 on the way home the rest are destined for the bin they are absolutely AWFUL: Bland, no rich dark taste, no variety (they all tasted the same YUK) Do Nestle think we are so gullible that they can con us into comming back for more even Oliver would choose a second helping of gruel. When I was a child I remember my dad coming home every Friday evening with a box of Black Magic. They were the family's favourite chocolates. My daughter recently bought a box for me. I was delighted until I opened the box! It got much worse when I tried them - they were awful. I am a real chocoholic and can honestly say that this is the only time I have been unable to eat any - I tried some of them and threw the rest in the bin! Black magic used to be my favourite chocolates. I was given a box of the Black Magic Classic Favourites and was very disappointed. My husband bought me a box of Black Magic recently.....and my heart sank! Black Magic chocolates used to be my most favourite chocolates and I knew all the flavours and for me, they surpassed every other chocolate on the market. Since Nestle changed them from 12 flavours to 6, there is no comparison to what we had years ago. Who on earth wants a huge box of chocolates with only 6 flavours - I threw most of them in the bin! You are so right. The Nestle folks paid good money for Rowntree's and are debasing the good name they bought.
Who do they think they are fooling? The flavors are crass knock-offs and the chocolate is lacking any tartness or mouth-impacting flavor. In the past they were a favorite we bought on special occasions for years.
Now ... where is the sensual treat to look forward to? I will look elsewhere.
I am ashamed to have given these to my family as a traditional tasty gift, It was a horrible rip-off that disappointed every recipient. . I will never purchase these again, and warn all my friends and hundreds of acquaintances.
How can Nestle be so blind and stupid. People buy good food to put in their mouths where taste buds exist and special sweet treats are appreciated. This is not a casual change in a recipie and cannot be cloacked from the suckered purchasers.
It is a fraud to use a good anme to squeeze out the final purchase by cloacking poor quality under a high quality name.
What's next? Asphalt flavoring??? Under the name Nestle's cocoa?
I will be twittering a link to these comments and hope that thousands of others do too.
Shame Shame. Shame on Nestle. Changing the whole promise of a brand to flip it into a better short-term money-maker is messing with our trust. Call it what it is.That's consumer fraud.

I noticed a slight improvement this year on the box design and selection, however, they are by no means what they used to be. Remember the days of 'who knows the secret of the black magic box'? Over here in Canada, they were selling them of after christmas for a $1.89 per box. They simply could not sell them. Until I see a visible attempt at widing back the clock 20 years, Nestle can go jump! (read more)

I couldn't have put it myself better. As a child in the mid 80s I loved it when my mum bought a box of Black Magic. It was a special treat and the selection was amazing back then... toffee and mallow, hazelnut cluster, lemon, raspberry and orange creams... and so much more. They were lovely. I had a box recently and couldn't believe the selection had been greatly reduced and the quality of the fillings awful. I know the chocolate market is much more sophisticated now but they have given up on this box of chocolates and decided put it at the cheapest end of of the market. So disappointing. But then I have to say sadly I can see other brands getting worse... you know who you are Green & Black's :'-(

Black Magic completely downgraded. Why change an exceptional product? Where are the hazelnut cluster, turkish delight, nougat, coffee cream. butterscotch, brazil nut, etc. Even the chocolate is not the same hard, dark consistancy. I even sent an email to Nestles in England about this. How could any company take the product they are so well known for and totally destroy it? This seems to be something a lot of companies have done when they take over an existing product. Maybe they think no one notices or cares or maybe there is just so much more profit to be made by using substandard ingredients. I think most people would pay a premium to purchase the original chocolates packaged in the original box from past years. (read more)

And add to the list of disappointing new age improvements to our old favourites: Crosse & Blackwell Christmas Puddings, now dreadful. Even Bisto is now filled with flour and nothing like the original. I also complained recently to Sunlight dishwashing detergent for diluting their product. No answer.

What happened to Black Magic? I thought maybe it was just me until I went looking for reviews and found everybody else asking the same question. Hardly any of the old favourites in there, and what was there was sickly sweet and unpleasant. The box I bought didn't live up to my memories or my expectations, and I note the way the packaging was arranged to make a modest number of chocolates look more generous on the shelf.
I won't be buying them again.

I have so missed Black Magic and when I spotted them in the shops, hints went out to relatives for Christmas prezzy's. I received three large boxes but what a disappointment. Only a choice of six flavours and nothing whatsoever like the originals. I wont be asking for them again. Still have two and a half boxes left, if they were as good as before, all three boxes would be long gone. I would have liked to know how cr*p they were and then I would not of asked for them. Nestle have ruined the Black Magic selection. The current chocolates are nowhere near the standard of the originals and there is a very limited selection. As an aside, Nestle have also ruined KitKat by using a disgusting bland "chocolate" instead of the original Rowntree chocolate. I would have given them no stars if it had been possible! (read more)

Black Magic were always my favorite. I opened a box last night to find 6 chocs which were nothing like the originals. Where are the montelimar, the choc brazil , coffee cream and turkish delight. I was so disappointed, and I still have another larger box to open. On looking at that, I see it has the same 6 chocs in. What on earth has happened?? Sadly very disappointed. The six 'favourites' I don't think so and not the old hard dark chocolate. The most disappointing was the Haselnut one. In times past there were three hazalnuts in a cluster with a hard crunchy base - now its one nut in mush. The Almond chocolate has barely a piece of almondin mush. had a box for christmas, what a disappointment, used to be my favourite but I wouldn't want anyone to waste their money again. none of my favourites and white chocolate drizzled over what few were in the box, the idea is I like dark chocs not white.
