“Made the terrible mistake of buying on Spec from PC...”

Written on: 08/03/2011

Made the terrible mistake of buying on Spec from PC World without checking the reviews. Price looked okay and box showed great features.

The program loads up well in Win7 and has an easy to use interface.

Unfortunately it cannot do anything it says it can do - it cannot even update itself from the internet!

I bought it for simply batch converting my own home 720p movies to a format for use on an IPod - suffice to say it does not work on my PC which is less than 6 months old - HP Laptop i7... (read more)

The product is not a fake, because of european law you are not allowed to make copys of certain files/DvDs etc,& your DVD RW knows this, what you have to do is download a file called mcldecrypt which when ran makes all encrypted dvds copy, i have used Movie clone 3 for years & copied all my encrypted DVDs so that i only use copys & keep my originals perfect.

“hi ”

Written on: 02/03/2010

hi
a fix for you.
i bought this software based on the blurb on the box.
i installed it on the same day. i need to backup my DVD collection to HD.
of course the software did not work, however after reading this forum and getting downheartened by it, i downloaded the following two pieces of (free) software

mcldecrypt.exe just open it on your pc
machinist.dll open the x-oom programme files and copy to there.

now the SW works, but does run slow.
hope this helps

Written on: 10/02/2010

I installed the product which works very fast. Afterwards I was asked to download an update. Then I have used the software several times.
First I was disappointed that you cannot copy any protected DVD. But then I asked google for the dll which is obviously missing.
Now I can copy my movies to any devices. Great job. I like the feature of burning music CDs from youtube clips. I work with Windows 7. (read more)

Written on: 30/01/2010

First, I installed this software using my laptop's internal DVD drive. After installation my computer no longer acknowledges that the drive even exists. It's driver must have been dumped during the install process.

Being that my internal drive is now useless until I can figure out how to fix it, I connected my laptop to an external DVD drive to begin backing up my DVDs. Process seemed to be going fine as I inserted the DVD into the external DVD drive, loaded the X-oom Movie Clone... (read more)

Oh how I wished I'd checked some forums first.
Bought my 'Movie Clone 5' from PC World just before Christmas based on their sales rep's recomendation! Sure, easy to set up and easy to use - if it worked! All I can say is it definately does NOT do what it says on the box. It's not even allowing me to connect to their site to check for updates - I click ok to check as the pop up box asks then moments later, an error message saing cannot connect to site and the programme closes.
Some basic... (read more)

This program is truly dreadful. Setup was not easy - had to go online twice (as administrator of course) - the second time it downloaded the latest version of Clone 5. Ease of use would be good if it worked! Paid '39.95.

Written on: 16/12/2008 by freespirit313

I purchased this program. It came with a link to update to be able to copy DVD movies for personal use. I've only been able to burn to DVD RW media only.
I've been sucessful in copying about 10 DVD Movies in the week I've had it. I have a 7 yr old, and we all know they don't take the best care of movies. Overall, for the $5.50 I spent for it on ebay, was well worth it. (read more)

Written on: 13/11/2008 by juststacy

I bought the software at Costco. I was excited about making back-ups of some of the kids movies (they get so scrtached!). I installed the software and I receive a popup saying that because of laws, it actually won't rip. They have my money and I feel I've got nothing!
Therefore I do not recommend X-oom Movie Clone and I hope Costco will give me my money back. (read more)

what you have failed to do is, when the pop up appears & says it is against the law to copy this DVD, you ignore it & then follow the link to upgrade the program, stating if nessecery that you are in one of the countrys permited to do so, once X-oom has added the file you will then be able to copy any DVD, remove the main film only from a dual layer dvd, this is without doubt the gratest & simplest DVD clone program out there, & can be got for free, you just have not understood or used it right.

"Wow" is all I can say to all these negative comments!
I just purchased Movie Clone 4 and decided "what the heck, lets check out any reviews there may be".
So I did... I will NOT be opening this package and will be returning it today! Thank goodness I check things like this before I open them up!

I am actually completely shocked at how many of you are disappointed with the product and I will definitely take your word for it. I think I might go for the 1-2-3 Copy DVD 2008 or one of the Roxio... (read more)

Written on: 20/06/2008 by elysebh (1 review written)

I got a free copy through Computer Shopper - glad I didn't spend any money on the program because it's rubbish! Most of the background doesn't seem to load when I open the program, so I can't see any of the labels for the radio buttons! So when I left them on the defaults and went through to copy onto my hard disk, the program crashed and I haven't been able to copy a thing!!
The only thing I do have to say for them is the website that they cannot provide it with the software, but type it... (read more)

Terrible. Avoid at all costs. The software doesn't do anything it says it can do. I've tried burning from DVD to DVD, which only turned out half burned DVDs and took forever. The other mode will rip the dvd to a file, but then not burn it. I have a 3 week old DVD writer, and all it turned out was coasters. (read more)

X-oom Movie Clone has turned out to be a complete waste of space for me. I cannot convert AVI to DVD as it promises. The programs simply crashes everytime I try. I cannot back up ANY of my DVD's as promised because it's 'Protected Content'. I have not gotten even ONE of the avalible options to work at all. This Software was a complete waste of money. I spent 50 dollars on software that does not do ANY of the things mentioned on the box. (read more)

Weak support and X-oom Movie Clone does not work for 90% of the things you buy this software for.Only copies 40%, then hangs. They when you try to update your get an Access denied error. Support takes two weeks and two reminders, then it is a generic "errors are caused by copy protection", that is poor service and was NOT the problem. (read more)

I found this software extremely frustrating. I can't comment on what it's like for copying disc to disc as I only used it to copy to the hard drive and then convert to xvid so that I could save onto my zen vision-m. At first look the controls seem straight forward but when i tried changing quality settings etc i ran into loads of problems. The help manual is useless and the online tutorial does not seem to exist. I managed to copy a few dvds but three of them had awful picture quality and i... (read more)

Written on: 16/01/2006 by JoeCrydd

X-oom Movie Clone is an excellent piece of software for backing up your original DVDs (to take on holidays or for storage purposes for example). Due to CSS anti-piracy restrictions, you must use an add on piece of software (mcldecrypt.exe) if you want to back up commercially available DVDs. Please note that to copy commercially available DVDs other than to back up a DVD you already own for your own use is an offence, but for backups using the add-on, it's second to none. (read more)

There is a disclaimer inside the X-oom Movie Clone box which informs you that in order to comply with legislation they have prevented the product from backing up protected DVD's ie every DVD on the market. There is a patch available on the net which sorts this out however when you finally manage to burn a DVD it will not play on most DVD players including the PC on which it was created!! X-oom Movie Clone doesn't work, save your money.
It will not copy css encrypted discs (copyrighted). There is a disclaimer inside the box to tell you this but you can't read it til you've opened the box which is normaly too late to return it. It also doesn't surport liteon drives .
I have emailed them 4 times about these problems with no reply to either problem, so theire backup is not very good either.
Be warned. (read more)
