    Good Points: OK when modified


    Bad Points: Faulty materials used in manufacturing of the product


    General comments: The Philips DVD-R980 DVD recorder has a manufacturing fault that is known to the makers. A bulletin was sent to all dealers about this. My machine was modified at Philips' expense, and it has been perfect ever since.

    After 6 months intermittent problems occur recording and playing discs. This gradually gets worse until now 2 years since purchase the model no longer plays or records any dvds. The machine only states the messages DISC ERROR/NO DISC or EMPTY DISC and is basically JUNK. It is not fit for the purpose it was designed and Philips Customer care are no help whatsoever. I understand from many reviews across the net that this is a common manufacturing problem but Philips will not own up to it. BUYER B ...

    I have owned this for about 6 weeks and am very pleased with the product +rw FEATURES ARE FANTASTIC .If your picture is good quality this will be more than reflected when you record and as with any DVD willstay that way unlike video tapes which degrade fairly quickly in my opinion
