We found that Sage One online based accounting software is the worse accounting software I have ever used, in my 20 years of being an accountant. And to even make things worse, as I write this review I have been on hold exactly 30 minutes waiting to speak to a support representative. (read more)

Having read many of these reviews I felt I needed to defend Sage a bit. The V2010 wasn't perfect but many of the comments on here are inaccurate. Reports and layouts are fully tailorable with a little bit of point in the right direction. Get your accountant to do the training not sage as they can tailor the training to what you want to do. “Extremely Poor - Designed to bleed you dry”

I absolutely hate this software, and my reasons are well-founded. There is a steep learning curve, and I expected that, but the issue is that the functions which are there to make your life easier need to be unlocked. For a premium of course. You'll find that the software is like that throughout. It will let you get part way through your tasks and then you'll hit a brick wall. “Useless "support" staff and pushy sales”

The package itselff is passable but be very wary of the optional "support". Some staff know what they are doing, others seem to struggle with basic accounting. I often find I am helping them more than the other way around! Also be alert for the pressure selling that will follow as soon as they have your details. I have this afternoon had to hang up on one women who just would not give up and am now ignoring any unrecognised numbers. In summary, reasonable package, rubbish company. (read more)

I used to use Microsoft Accounting 2009 but Microsoft withdrew support for the program. Because I didn't want to be left high and dry I bought Sage Instant Accounts. I found it so bad I also purchased their support package. After 7 months I can say that if I wanted to deliberately produce counter intuitive, difficult software it would resemble Sage Instant Accounts. Have used Sage accounting for a retail business for 8 years, after a break of 3 years, I purchased the latest version of SAGE, it is complicated, difficult to use and feels like they update perfectly good versions in order to charge excessive money for purchase and updates, I am not an accountant and still have to use one to sort out the mess that SAGE makes of the job it was purchased to do, because of a software "gremlin" I have to re-enter every invoice for the past six months! Having read every other review I wonder if I have the same product! I changed from using Microsoft Accounting to Sage and find the programme's very similar. I have used the report designer and made up my own invoices BUT that was quite tricky to get the fields etc in the right place but I managed in the end. I use the company reports to check on monthly budgets and have now got the hang of the bank reconcilation. The layout is clear and VAT is a doddle! The only problem I have had is that I... This is the least intuitive piece of software I've ever attempted to use. It seems impossible to set up the categories which are useful to one's own business and delete all the presets (some of them will delete, others won't). I uninstalled in order to try for a clean start, but searched on "sage" afterwards and found literally hundreds of objects left behind. I guess once you have Sage, you always will!
Before I made my purchase I should have read these reviews!

Sage Line 50 Accounts 2010 is the biggest load of rubbish at an exorbitant cost.Previous versions of Sage were quick and so simple to use all you needed was common sense.This version has slowed everything down,the arrogance of the programme defaults my documents to Sage and the format has completely changed.What before would take one click of the mouse now takes on average 4. In my opinion this has been created in order to make people pay for the software cover.

This is yet another Sage update that simply doesn't work properly. I've given up upgrading since Version 12 due to the calamities following every upgrade I'v ever done. Having been assured several times that 2010 is really good and glitch free I'm now in a position where our system has slowed dramatically, and two works stations are now completely unable to operate. We are also back into the cycle of "its your equipment sir" despite being way above the minimum systemn requroements threshold.... (read more)

Buying the disk will get you the program which like the other reviews is good - albeit not intuitive so you will probably end up BUYING some for of training. Do a book search on Amazon for Sage Instant and you wont find much for the latest version (15) other than from Sage - and look at the price!
Once you run the disk and load the program you will find you have brought a 60 day trial until you register. Once you have done that, unless you do it carefully stand back and watch the...

What an unfriendly piece of software. I run a small consultancy and bought this because the shop assistant in Staples said it was the best. Obviously he had never tried to install it or use it and to cap it all if you do decide to call the "free" helpline it is an 0845 number which is not free at all. Give this software and Sage a wide berth. (read more)

I wish I had personally never purchased this piece of software! Just completed end of year accounts, nothing makes sense as far as I am concerned. It has left me in a lot of trouble in my opinion therefore I do not recommend Sage Instant accounts 10. (read more)

Appalling piece of software. It isn't meant for people without accountancy experience, it isn't easy to use and it isn't easy to set up. Spent a whole day trying to enter opening balances from my last audited accounts (actually only 8 balance sheet items) and gave up. I have gone back to QuickBooks - far easier and IMHO a much easier piece of software to work with.
If you don't want to spend £1000's on software, bookkeeper and training, go for something else. Excel would be better. Sage...

With many years experience as a Book-keeper I have never yet come across a worse program than Sage Instant Accounts Version 10. You cannot use the package without loads of patches to correct errors, and even then the patches do not fully correct the problems. When you contact Sage they tell you to load the patch, which you have already done.
Possibly the worst Sage Program EVER!!!!
Save your money and buy something more reliable!

I am an IT consultant with 20 years experience of working with software. I have never had a worse experience of software than that which I had with Sage Instant accounts. This package has clearly been cynically marketed as an SME tool but is unusable without an upgrade / and / or the use of presumably Sage supplied stationery.
To mention some of the worst parts of the system:
