When you say "the kingpin was loose" do you mean the kingpin nut came loose? Simple fix: tighten it. Very few people skate trucks right how they come out of the box, you adjust the tightness to your preference. If you tighten down the locking threads on the nut keep it from coming loose, and if you loosen it so much that the kingpin threads aren't screwed onto the locking threads on the end of the nut then that's user error but can be fixed with things like putting common teflon tape on the kingpin threads then putting the nut back on, or using a very small amount of low-strength Loc-Tite. You can buy this stuff as well as replacement nuts at any regular hardware store for a couple dollars.

I've skated Indy;s almost exclusively for over 25 years and the only time I ever had them come loose it was because the kingpin nut was old (locking threads worn out) of because I had it too loose in the 1st place. Don't blame the trucks for something you can easily remedy with a 9/16" wrench and a little common sense.

You also say "Indy'sgood but.." Does one little inconvenience (tightening a nut) really justify a 1/5 star review? Geez.

“indys”

Written on: 18/01/2014

i have had my indys for about 4 years. I skate a lot of stairs, there not to heavy and not to light they are perfect. I mean the only thing that you might have to replace is the kingpins which my kingpin just snapped last week but you can send them back to NHS and they will replace them with no cost to you. so if you want the perfect set of trucks go get INDYS… Read Full Review

“My Review of Independent Trucks”

Written on: 17/08/2011 by Zenavenge (10 reviews written)

I love indys. They are the best truck i've ever had, they turn well, grind well and are very durable! I got mine very cheap from an online store and the bushings are the yellow medium ones and they are great! Overall i think indys are the best and easily the most durable truck out there except for some Theeve models, which have built in titanium for durability, but these will most likely cost you a lot more... Although they are a bit weighty this doesn't matter too much when you come to more… Read Full Review

“new indy's”

Written on: 09/07/2011 by craig1234lkjh (1 review written)

I've skated indy's for the last 16 years. I can't say I've broken any, but I do grind them away. I skate ramp, bowls and do lots of grinds. I'm a bit old to be doing all the new flips although I did when I was younger. The new trucks have a weird way of turning, first you lean on them a little and then a little more (loose ish trucks) and they don't turn with your body weight. The with a bit more weight the fly around the corner way to quick. Had my worst slam in 28 years of skating getting… Read Full Review

Peeweeherman's Response to craig1234lkjh's Review

Written on: 25/08/2014

So, you fall and blame the trucks? To be blunt: you didn't take adequate time to get used to a new pair of trucks. I've been riding Indy's since the 80's and of course they've changes some, the feel of Indy's isn't *exactly* what it was with Stage 7 and earlier models, but they also had to cut a lot of weight to make them viable for modern skating. Regardless, overall they still skate better than any other trucks on the market, regardless of whether you're skating street or tranny. I can go from skating ledges to a 12' vert ramp on the same pair of trucks without so much as adjusting the kingpin nut.

As a side note: your opinion lost all credibility when you mentioned Grind King, which have pretty much always been terrible. They've always been a longboard company first and foremost, and have NEVER made good trucks for real skateboarding.

Written on: 13/08/2008 by Graham Baker (1 review written)

The best new indies are stage 7s stage nine base plates break easily stage 8 hangers bend easily and sometimes break if I were to buy new school indies again I would get stage 7s. Stage 6s are the best old school indy I would buy a second hand set of stage 6 149s or 159s as you can occassoinaly still get second hand indies. Stage 6s are very strong but very heavy but fine for me as I am an old school and do not do flip tricks so do not need a low truck… Read Full Review

Written on: 01/09/2006 by Real (1 review written)

Independents are great trucks, the only pro trucks I have ever owned (1989-2006). I have skated with a lot of others, they maybe lighter but not the same. Indys are strong, great for grinding, drops & are very responsive for smooth turns & recovering. I love my Indys!

I recommend the Stage-8 not the S-9. The guys at Indy need to make them right with a Stage 10. Indys for ever!… Read Full Review

Independent Trucks are really good. I bought them second hand and my friend then bought them from me after id had them for 6 months and there still in good skating order. As I say they are indestructible. They are a bit heavy, and hard to get used to flip tricks on, but hey who cares. If you need trucks to last you a long time (e.g. bomb proof ones) these are for you… Read Full Review

I got a pair of Independent Trucks for christmas and i'm still riding them. I prefer doing the bigger stuff like drops and gaps and such, and these trucks have helped me so much. I used to skate Phantom's till the damn kingpin kept breaking if you land not-so-perfectly, I totally broke grind kings around the part that holds the bushings, the axle on my tensors is a little bigger on one side of the hanger, then on the other, and pretty much to sum this all up...Independents have lasted me just… Read Full Review
