Never had any problems since I got my card two years back - I've always been up to date with my payments apart from one occasion where I was a day or two late and incurred a £12 charge...that was my own fault and I never made that mistake again! The benefits you get from being a store card holder are quite good - e.g they send you vouchers and other things with your statements each month and sometimes they're discount ones. On paying my account off each month I have never had any issues... (read more)

I had a new look card 6 years ago that is still causing me problems. The balance has been paid they tell me, and I owe then nothing...yet, I'm still in debt to the company that deals with new look store cards, and no matter how much I try, I cannot find out which company this is?! New look to me they couldn't give me this information, for some reason. Now it's badly effecting my credit score. Sketching that you should just be able to pay off in 5 mins, us taking me forever! They state you get a 60 day cooling off period, you don't. I took out the account less than that and I cancelled it after 4 days. I now apparently owe over £50?? You cannot call them without your customer number and even then it probably will not work. Ikano (the actual company, nothing to do with New Look) has nothing to do with New Look so they cannot even help you in store. New Look workers practically bully you into taking it out and then you get charged double whatever you spent. (read more)

After receiving a statement before receiving the store card I was already unhappy with New Look. Then I tried to pay off my account online a day late I will admit so I thought there must be a surcharge added on. Then I phoned the customer service line who I thought at the time were quite pleasant. He told me there was still £3 something on my account so I asked if I could pay that over the phone. He took my card details and told me my account was now at zero. However much to my dismay I... (read more)

I have never had any problems with my new look store card. I live on a small island so it's not possible to shop in store unless I'm visiting the mainland so I tend to spend alot when I do visit and pay it off of my card each month. Don't bother getting one of these cards, they are a total waste of time. I got one of these cards a few months ago because I was told that I would get a 15% discount on my purchase that day. Against my better judgement I agreed and was accepted. The invoice came and I paid the balance in full. I decided to keep the card as New Look is my daughters favourite clothes shop and I thought it might come in handy. I used to have Santander Cards managed card and they made endless mistakes - late statements, lost payments etc. They are basically useless and their Indian call centre is the rudest and most customer UNfriendly I've ever known!
But to be honest, in this case, unless you can get professional legal advice to confirm you've got a case, I would just pay up and close the account. If they start adding additional charges, contact their complaints dept in LEEDS (tel. 0113 240 4230 Complaints Resolution Team for Santander Cards, Capital House Unit A, Bruntcliffe Way, Morley, Leeds LS27 0JG)

I agree about using credit responsibly but a lot of the issues raised here are about the poor administration and customer service for these cards. For example: poor Indian call centre with very rude, unhelpful staff with poor English, basic admin errors such addresses not updated etc etc. They also tend to send out Statements sent out late but take as long as possible to credit payments. Fair enough, if you're on the ball you'd pay early maybe not waiting for the statement to arrive but really that's not good service and potential customers need to know what kind of service they are likely to receive - because it is poor!!

80% of bad reviews on here cannot be all wrong-OK?
I work full time, earn a decent salary and have other store cards in addition to my new look card. however, i have just gotten rid of the new look card because it's administration is simply put- NONESENSE.
I once made a purchase in store with the card towards the end of the month, and to my surprise, just within 2 and a half weeks later, my statement arrived in the post claiming i had a missed a payment and was charged a late payment fee? - When did the reminder come through?
Every statement that arrived in the post from new look claims you've missed payments, and when you ring their customer services, they claim they sent you statements showing due dates for payments which i never see, I only ever get to see the ones saying you've missed a payment. The reminders according to them always seem to get missing in the post- not.
The CS guy I spoke to said their statements are always generated at the 13th of every month, so how does the card user know this?- indirectly meaning if you use your card after the 13th it's entirely up to you to pay before the next 13th of the month, somehow, you should figure that out, else, that's it- You've missed a payment and will incure a charge- how great!!!
He was so rude, the rudest man on earth accusing me that It was my own very fault for not making payments, and even went on to further accuse that why do we spend money when we can't afford to pay and we start giving excuses of missing our payments?
I have never been insulted so much in my life and requested to speak with his manager, of course, who, he was very reluctant to put me through to.
They also affect peoples credit ratings by not setting out their rules properly, so if you can, avoid using their cards at all costs.
I'll recommend using Dorothy perkins store cards which you can also use and shop accross the whole Arcadia group barnds.
New look also sent me discount vouchers and a new card to carry on doing business with them, and as you guess- I've cut it up and binned it -that's where it belongs.

I am in TOTAL Sympathy with you and currently going through a similiar experience with them myself !!! After using the card ONCE and paying it off a few days late (as I never received a statement from them, so chased the bill up myself knowing it must be due soon)..
After paying it off in full (approx £30) - I then received a statement owing £20 which consisted purely of charges for interest + late payment fees. Just wanting to get rid of it - I paid that in full too. This is approx 2 months ago & I have never used the card again and havn't received any more statements. Then today, I receive a letter from Ikano saying I owe another £36.92 immediately (yet no statements explaining the charges ??)..
No wonder the store clerk went to so much trouble to get the card approved, when I didn't have the correct ID with me and there was confusion over my name due to recently getting married.. I kept saying it didn't matter but she kept insisting & spent approx 20mins sorting it out !! I assume she was well paid for it !!

Firstly, the statements advise you need to allow 5 working days for the payment to reach your account. It's not rocket science...follow the statement instructions and you won't get any late payment charges.
Secondly, paying a day before your due date in store MAY allow it to go through in time. It has nothing to do with the store banking their tills daily etc, it's all about the banking system and payments can take 5 working days to go through. If you allow 5 working days as recommended then you won't have any problems at all...i don't understand why people leave it until their due dates or the day before...pay as soon as you get the statements and you won't have a problem!
Finally, the reason why you've had the account with them since 2005 is because the accounts were taken over by Ikano in 2005. You previously had your new look account with a different company, they didn't pass all the previous records to Ikano hence why they've only got records since 2005...
Be smart people...follow the instructions and you won't have any problems. JEEZ!

The new look store card is ok if you are in need of something to wear and are a bit stuck for cash. The reality is that if you make a late payment like me which was only 2days they will add £12 to what you are owed as a late payment fee. Now as the amount on my card was only small anyway I think it is disgusting that they would add such an ammount onto what is owed. It should be made clear when taking out a Newlook store card that there is a late payment charge (even on any interest built) (read more)

YES, the interest rate is high BUT most are. Plus, if you're sensible and get a £50 - £100 limit (or whatever you can afford) AND pay back in the stated time which should always be taken into account....the interest is only going to be a few pounds!
