“Beware Argos card statement cheats”

I have a 12 month plan with my Argos card. My feb statement came with the first page 'your account at a glance' - minimum payment : 0 then the march statement came, they charged me 29% interest for the whole year and £12 for overdraft. Talked to a horrible staff - She said my payment plan ended sometimes in March - For any other credit card and payment plan I am using if the payment plan ends in march it should appear in the march statement and you pay after you receive that statement. “Argos card services-joke!”

Written on: 29/03/2013

My mother passed away 3 months ago, I knew she had one of these cards but not how much debt she was in. Now, after contacting them with a letter that explained she passed away without a will or estate and a copy of the death certificate, they have shown their true compassionate side by writing to me, her son. They have passed her details onto a debt collection agency to recoup the money. First of all, she had no will or estate, secondly without a will there is no executor and finally I will... Argos failed to deliver a sofabed/futon saying it was to large to get up the stairs and offered to send me a cheque as a refund on 28/01/2013. One week later I asked Argos where my money was, they again promised me a refund within 5 days. Today I received a voucher for the £306.44 they owe me. After my second complaint, I made it clear I would never shop in their store again, Why send a voucher. So far they have had my money for 7 weeks in all. (read more)

Written on: 07/01/2013

I've been with Argos cards services for a while and have ran up a good debt due to financial problems, but I'm on a turn around at the moment and can transfer the balance to my new card at a lower rate. But Argos won't allow you to pay your balance off with a credit card either by payment or balance transfer. I would look for a credit card first and if they offer you theirs ask if they allow balance transfers before signing on the bottom line. In times like this I want to know why they... (read more)

“Dreadful Customer Service”

Four weeks after applying for an Argos card my wife and I are still waiting but have pretty much given up! The customer service has been unbelievably bad. Argos badly need to shake up their rude staff. Ringing them is pretty useless. Twice they have written to us, asking for more details which we have quickly supplied. The letters are brusque and rude even though we have only shown these people politeness and consideration. Most letters finish with something like, "Please answer this... (read more)

I suspect that I may be about to have the same experience that you've described.

I've just been on the argos website to place a large order for furniture for the house that I'm about to move into. I was aware that buying with the argos card would give me a 12 month interest free period and so I applied for the credit.

According to the website, the decision should be immediate and so I could apply for the credit and buy the items at the same time. However, after submitting all the information they requested, the website responded that they will get back to me in a week's time!

The last time I'd applied for the argos card was 14 years ago when i was about to move to my current flat. They had declined my application even though I'd had several years credit history of paying off my credit cards every month and actually owned both flats that I was moving between.

I still pay off the full balance of my credit cards every month and now I own out right the flat I'm moving out of and the house I'm moving into.

I suspect that eventually if argos gets back to me, it will be with a rejection.

I wonder if argos is deliberately rejecting people with good credit histories because they want to use the interest free period to trap those people who are least likely to be able to pay off the balance?

I will not place my order with them unless they approve my credit application. I hope other people in similar situation will do the same and refuse to order unless their credit application is approved.

Can't beleive all the people complaining about interest charges, obviously they are going to do this, any types of loans do, they can't give away stock for years until you can pay! If you pay the full balance within the buy now pay later period it's a really good option. I hate debt and don't have any but decided on a store card after we were left without some electricals after a break in- was easy to make payments and customer service were always nice with me :-) (read more)

I have had my Argos Store Card for many years and not suffered a single problem. Every month my statement arrives without delay. The statements clearly show how much you have spent and how much you have paid. I have never had any problems with BNPL deals which I have taken advantage of many times. Fine for buy now pay later on anything over 3 months. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE for purchases under £95. I was told that anything purchased for under £95 qualified for a 59 day buy now pay later. This was, however, completely untrue. It turned out to be 20days. I was on holiday when the statement was delivered and as I had been told I had 59 days to pay, had not arranged payment. The argos card is good if you keep on top of your payment due dates. Anyone who falls foul of this really have themselves to blame. I have never paid intrest to argos. think about it, only use it if you think you can handle the payment when it comes round.

This said i think Argos are ruining the card service. When i first joined (around 8 years) i could put items on the card for over £295.00 and get 12 months intrest free. A few years back this was reduced to 9 months intrest free, with 12... (read more)

The Argos card was easy to apply for, and quite convenient. Or so we thought. We were offered 'buy now, pay 12 months later' scheme in September 2008. In February 2009, we started getting letters telling us the full balance was now due. We made a phonecall to Argos and I spoke to a very rude saleswoman who kept rather annoyingly repeating "you would have been told what the scheme was when you first took out the credit, it's not our mistake". The Argos store card is a good option if you can control your finances and are disciplined enough to ensure you pay the full balance before the end of the interest free periods. Written on: 09/02/2008

Well this may sound harsh, but of course they are going to charge interest if you cant make the payments, and at the end of the day that is how they make there money, there would be no point in them giving these cards out if everyone made payments on time because it wouldn't be profitable then. and you should always have some savings set aside to make sure you afford debts that you have just in case you lose your job in this case. next time you take any credit out why don't you consider taking the payment protection so it will help you next time if this happens again

The Argos card allows you an interest free period if you spend over a certain amount in one go, I think it's 3 months free interest when you spend £95, 6 months when you spend £195, spend £295 and you get 9 months. This is in my opinion the best high street store card if you use it to your advantage. I would advise using any card that you should always pay as much off as you can and just paying the interest and or the minimum payment each month as this will only lead to problems in the long run.
