We arrived at 5 in the afternoon and were looked after from the moment we entered the Hotel Rinella Beach, inside the hotel there is a shop, Jewellers & hairdressers all of which are friendly and welcoming! I would advise you use the shop just outside the hotel gates for unnecessary items as some things are overpriced! The food at the Rinella beach is fantastic a good choice even for the most fussy of us! A must is to book for the on sight Chinese, its really special and beautifully... (read more)

“May/June 2004. ”

May/June 2004.
Great time was had by both families.
ANIMATION TEAM: They brought us many smiles and mountains of fun times, the whole team work very hard day and night to make your holiday fun. Great daytime activities, Water Polo, French Boules, Aerobics, Dance. Fab shows in evening, lots of games.
RESTAURANTS:
Taverna - special, we ate there most lunchtimes, all fresh cuisine. Main restaurant good, lots of choice, if you were missing something the staff would make sure it was there the... (read more)

“Heraklion, Rinella Beach is rated as a 3 star hotel in...”

Heraklion, Rinella Beach is rated as a 3 star hotel in most brochures. It's a very attractive hotel in design and layout. Staff were helpful and friendly. The standard of food and service was generally very good.

The hotel is actually in the village of Kokini Hani just a few miles outside Heraklion. The village has one main road which runs parallel to the coast, and along which the shops and tavernas are to be found. The area is reasonably flat so we found ourselves taking regular evening... (read more)

I am most surprised at the comments regarding the Animation Team, they work so hard to include everyone and make the holiday fun for all nationalities, this is the first holiday where we made some European friends, all down to the games and participation in all the sports on offer. I have never been to a hotel with such a great entertainment team, our party and other English families all commented on how great our 2 weeks were. When you go all-inclusive and to a large hotel, you do not expect peace and tranquility, what the hotel has to offer in all areas is spot-on and we will all be making Rinella our destination for next year....

My comment about the animation team wasn't intended as a criticism of their work, merely pointing out that using the pool really gave no choice in the matter. With our son being 3 years old at the time, the main pool was really not a suitable place to be. Having stayed at a lot of all-inclusive hotels over the years around the world, I'm not sure why Janette feels that they can't offer any element of tranquility. The Rinella beach is an excellent hotel, but by way of contrast, for only a little extra money, look at my review of the Marina Hotel at Gouves only a short distance away along the coast...

Dave.... seem to have offended you, that was not my intention, I am a little curious to know why you put your review on 3 years after you went there though, how can it be an accurate, up to date review. Additionally, in my opinion there were times when we had peace and tranquillity as well as fun and laughter.
we disagree....so what, maybe you expect more out of life, maybe as British we love to complain...who knows. Don't be offended

There are additional pools nowadays including a small water slide, they are no where near the animation team, most of whom were great Yes at 41 I was playing table tennis, doing the animation dance and playing football, boules etc until my legs were wobbly, but after all the excellent food plus drinks what do you expect, I still put on weight!

If you have kids go there, if you dont have kids then go there outside kids holiday times, use the buses to get around (at a fraction of the tour company prices), get the room upgrade and have a good time. be careful who you travel with, Sunstar were not a good tour company, but other companies use the hotel so choose them.

“Heraklion, Rinella Beach - We had our best ever...”

Written on: 17/06/2004 by Janette

Heraklion, Rinella Beach - We had our best ever holiday for fun here, the animation team made our holiday and we will not forget the time we had with them.
Food was good, Taverna excellent.
Rooms could have been better for a 4 star hotel but you don't go on holiday to spend time in your room so it made no difference to our holiday.
Staff - very polite, apart from main lady on reception, I don't think she broke a smile in the 2 weeks we were there but all the waiters were great.
We had 2... (read more)

I'm surprised to see this described as a 4 star hotel as in previous years it has always been shown as 3 star. The setting is beautiful and the local shopping strip right outside the hotel is pretty good. On our visit we found all staff to be very helpful, but of course there tends to be some turnover from year to year so bad staff can always be found from time to time at any hotel. The ampitheatre style of the hotel gives a great ocean view. The animation team, whilst working hard and doing a good job, are based around the (single) pool which is great if you want to be involved in all the activities, but doesn't allow much opportunity for a break from it without going to the beach instead.

You could always give it another go, Dave. There is now a second pool, but the Animation Team don't seem to go there. Every year I go back there is something new.

I can see that a second pool would certainly make a signifigant difference to the hotel. It was great in every other aspect.
