I purchased Avast premium. On an automatic upgrade put out by Avast, my computer reverted back to Free Avast. I called to ask how to get the Avast premium back as I'd paid for it, and the last "upgrade" put it back to free Avast. “HORRIBLE...THINK THEY GAVE ME A VIRUS”

WHEN I HAD A PROBLEM, THEY WANTED $119 APPROX FOR 1 TIME TAKE OVER MY COMPUTER. THE NEXT TIME I TURNED IT ON, OFFICE DEPOT SAID IT WAS DEAD. A COMPUTER GEEK TOLD ME THEY GAVE ME A VIRUS. I CALLED BACK, AND FOR $179 FOR ONE YEAR, THEY WOULD GO THROUGH THE SAFE MODE AND REPAIR IT. FIXED IT MYSELF, BUT LOST EVERYTHING. For anyone considering Avast: I now have six (6) months of TRYING to cancel the auto-billing for Avast SecureLine privacy browsing. Last email came from someone-their support??- in the Czech Republic. It has been weeks after the latest ticket was submitted. “Refund or cancel service? Good luck.”

It was fine while it was free. I had some issues with my PC and decided to buy the Grimefighter. It froze for a few hours. I called to get my money back and they offered a year of "Avast Total Support" for $179.99. I know. I should have known. I had nothing but good service from Avast till then and trusted their expertise. I mentioned that I was getting a blue screen every few days. They said they could fix it. “What a joke”

Downloaded the FREE software to burn a Boot Disc for an infected computer- followed the steps and received an AVAST error message that a boot disc could not be created. Called the FREE 24/7 support and was told 1. If I didn't speak to a "Premium" technician then the infected computer could erase the product key and there was "no way whatsoever" to recover that and I would have to repurchase windows. 2. I have spent 2 days trying to cancel my auto-renewal and have been unsuccessful. I have paid for their software for 2 years without using it. They say that the email I am providing is not the one on file. However, it is the one they send the auto-renewals to. I have requested new passwords and I never receive them. “DISGUSTED!”

In December they notified me my protection would end in December unless I renewed immediately. I called to inquire and was told I needed to renew immediately and the new renewal date would be 4-1-16. “Annoying as hell and ineffective”

Disclaimer: I used free version. And it was worse than most of the malware. Aggressive advertising, constant popups, flashy "Try me", "Buy me". One day it seduced me to perform a some kind of super security check, and as the result the search engines of all my browsers were changed to now display Avast advertising. Disgusting. “Poor Protection”

Purchased their upgrade version. Within about two weeks I have malware that is taking over my machine. I contacted tech support at Avast and was told for about $200 they will clean my machine. Had a virus and called support. After agreeing with "level 2" support for $119.99 they spend an hour connected to my computer and made the virus go away for a few hours. Boom! The virus came right back. I called them and they wanted to try to fix it again given that I was within the "5-day" period. I posed the question: what if this happens again? Is it possible to give minus stars? My wife contacted them, they took remote control of her computer, totally messed it up, then gave her a very hard sell extorting over $150 to fix what they screwed up. I got on the phone, told them to bug off, and fixed the problems in a few minutes using CC Cleaner. Deal with these people at your own risk… Read Full Review

I'll bet that you/your wife, did not deal with Avast but some bunch in India that have advertised under the Avast name, same thing happened under the Norton name.
I had trouble with an install and I did not received the assistance that I thought I deserved as a customer. Once things straightened out I have had no issues with a laptop and a desktop, both running Win 7. I have used the program for 2 years.

Please call them before buying if you don't believe me or send them a ticket because thats they only way they will speak with you about your account and guess what they don't answer the tickets they have taken money from my account and you cannot speak with anyone, the free service now hijacks your search bar and adds an extension called safe price which is a pop up add.
