    Good Points: Reliable, comfortable, flexible.

    Bad Points: Hidden problems.

General comments: I have owned a Mazda MPV 2.0 litre petrol, manual from new for five years and have covered 71,000 miles with regular manufacturer servicing. It has never let me down and has been a good car. However the air conditioning recently failed due to an object flicking off the road and puncturing a pipe, leading to the rear seat controls. Not only was the replacement pipe very expensive, but due to difficulty in undoing couplings, I ended up having two lengths replaced. Not much change out of £500. Unfortunately another horror has been revealed. On removing the offside rear wheel arch cover, above the wheel, to access the a/c pipes, we discovered that the heating pipes carrying hot water to the rear heating controls are also located there. The a/c pipes are insulated aluminium but the heating pipes are steel, and due to their location have rusted badly. They have not yet corroded through but when this happens, all coolant will be lost and the car will overheat and fail. They look extremely expensive to replace. I will clean them off and give them a coat of Hammerite in the hope that they may last longer. If anyone else has discovered this I would be interested or would welcome a comment from Mazda. Be warned, check yours now. It has never been mentioned at the regular Mazda services or in any of the recommended maintenance checks, but they will sure make plenty of money when they are inevitably replaced, particularly after winters of rock salt deposits from road ice treatment.

The Mazda MPV DX 2.5L V6 is a very nice vehicle, great for family transportation without sacrificing ease of maneuverability and steering performance around curves at high and low speeds as well as ease of parking, not much luggage room, but a luggage rack will take care of that if necessary. I like the color bright red that mine came in, the vehicle has a nice new car look to it, even though it is three years old. At 60,000 miles the van still runs like a champ, smooth acceleration, the automat ...
