“The Hobbyzone Fighterbird plane is exceptional value...”

★★★★★

written by james pelling on 19/01/2008

The Hobbyzone Fighterbird plane is exceptional value for money and is quick and easy to assemble(5minutes). I got this plane as a present i had no flying experience at all but i found it easy to use. The controls are really simple and the plane is robust. The anti crash tech really works and is a great way of saving money because you dont have to go buying parts that have been broken. I really recommend this aircraft.

“The Fighterbird is a revolutionary new model aircraft...”

★★★★★

written by Fordaz on 11/03/2004

The Fighterbird is a revolutionary new model aircraft from Hobbyzone which allows pilots to dogfight each other in a series of thrilling, yet safe, aerial battles.

The Fighterbird is supplied with everything you need to get flying straight away, and comes in almost pre-built condition. All you need to do is attach the 42 inch wings and battery and you're ready!

New and Veteran pilots alike will get a lot of fun out of the Fighterbird, it's V-Tail design gives it superb stability in flight, and the 2-channel Transmitter (supplied) makes flying it very simple.

The aircraft's fuselage is made of a durable plastic, which can withstand sizeable impacts with hard objects. The wings and tail are made of a light-weight plastic-coated foam, which is very flexible and will absorb impacts to a degree.

An interesting thing about the Fighterbird is the lack of pitch control. Where a normal aircraft would have 3 channels for Throttle, Pitch, and Roll the Fighterbird has only 2: Throttle and Roll.

This makes the aircraft incredibly simple to operate, as the throttle controls both the speed and the rate of climb or decent.

Just throttle up to go up, throttle down to go down... it's that simple!

Flying solo is fantastic enough, but where the Fighterbird really comes into it's own is when flying with another Fighterbird.

The Fighterbird is available in six frequencies, which means up to six Fighterbirds can fly at the same time without conflicting radio signals. Sounds fun? It gets better!

The Fighterbird is supplied with a Sonic Module, which easily clips onto the underside of the aircraft, and a wire plugs into a port on the side. The Sonic Module, when activated by moving the throttle to the extreme rear position, emits a loud sonic "cone" in front of the aircraft. Any other Fighterbird that finds itself unlucky enough to be in the way when this happens will sense the sonic frequency and shut down the aircraft's engine for ten seconds.

A pilot whose aircraft is hit by the sonic blast of another aircraft will now have to face the daunting challenge of keeping his or her bird in the air without an engine, using only the roll controls to steer the aircraft in and out of the wind in order to keep it flying.

But the attacker shouldn't be cocky, if his or her victim manages to stay airborn for ten seconds, their engine will spring back to life, allowing them to inflict their revenge.

The Hobbyzone Fighterbird is available for around £99 and comes complete with Control Pack, Battery, Decals, wing mounts, landing gear, sonic module, AC Charger and travel charger.

The Aircraft has a range of about 2,500ft (760 metres) and flies for aproximately 15 minutes, fully charged. When the battery is almost empty, the aircraft will automatically shut down the engine, saving power for the control surfaces to operate in order to glide the aircraft back down to the ground.

The battery takes aproximately 45 minutes to charge fully. Spare batteries are avaiable in 7.2v and 8.4v (longer lasting) types, and cost around £15 to £20 respectively.

Spare Wings and Tails are available for £9 and £6 respectively, should they become damaged, and are available in White, Yellow and Silver.

The Transmitter requires eight AA batteries to operate.

The Fighterbird will provide hours of entertainment for anyone who flies it, and is an ideal aircraft for anyone who wants a simple aircraft to have a bit of fun with.
