Good Points: I firstly bought the XL1 and needed a secondary camera, many in the industry recommended the Sony VX 1000 but i stuck to what I loved and that was the canon. I must admit i love the little Xm over the XL even thought the XL has more audio capabilitys. i wont look back
Bad Points: No real bad points,...the fact that theres only one audio channel is a small downer
General comments: I firstly bought the Canon XL1 and needed a secondary camera. Many in the industry recommended the Sony VX 1000 but i stuck to what I loved and that was the Canon. I must admit i love the little Canon XM digital camera more than the XL, even though the XL has more audio capabilities. I won't look back. Overrall an excellent package.

Canon XM1. Excellent little digital camcorder. Picture quality is brilliant and the PCM digital sound mic on the camera itself is quite good. Sockets available for ext mic. DV in/out. I film weddings using the xm1 and I think it gives as good a picture as any other 3 chip camera such as Sonys DSR 250 or VX2000 which are price marked more expensive.
If you're serious about videography then this camera is a must. Even if its sole purpose is for a back up.

The canon XM1 is, by far, the best camcorder I have ever owned. The zoom is fantastic as is the stability of the picture at furthest zoom point. This camera is light, easy to handle packed full of features and was marginly better than the Panasonic 3ccd camcorder I looked at before purchasing this one.
This camera really rocks and is worth every single penny of £1300 I paid for it.
Not found any bad points at the moment but I am sure there are a few which will appear at a later point ...

This Canon XM1 digital camcorder is great. It gives a film look to most of your shots. Its colours and soft edges is on a league of its own. Simply unbeatable.

Although more expensive than many digital camcorders, the Canon XM1 is well worth the extra money. Not only does it give you all the manual capabilities of a larger more expensive camera, it also gives you the ease of use of a small camcorder. The controls on top of the handle come in extremely handy if you are filming inconspicuously.
All in all the Canon XM1 is a superb camcorder and i would recommend it to anyone, whether they want to use it for professional or amateur purposes.

The XM1 is a little bigger than the majority of digital camcorders but is exceptionally well made and gives superb quality results. The awards are well deserved.
