“High price for poor accomodation”

★★☆☆☆

written by Moo-moo75 on 07/09/2012

Where do I start entertainment very much the same each night very boring! Caravan we had was a deluxe pfffttt mouldy curtains, smelly carpets, mold on walls and corners! Shabby all round! Food over priced! Really not worth the £799 I paid for a week! Only one of the four singers could sing an dance the others were wooden! Will not be returning!

Our holiday was booked independently and our short stay was in a privately owned chalet on site at perran sands, so it would be unfair for us to comment on the accomadation that haven have to offer. However, the level of service that we received upon arrival from representatives of the site {ie haven staff} was somewhat to be desired. Little britain computer says no springs to mind. Although the staff in the shop on site could not be more helpful or friendly. we would not recommend to a friend or will indeed not be going again ourselves.

I thought the location was great. The accomodation was a disaster. Stayed in a chalet what a slum. Bathroom door hanging off really embarrassed to use the loo, mould covered the beds and bedroom walls. Chalet had previous occupiers toiletries and cigarettes and lighter left. I spoke to an owner of one the chalets and the reason why they are like it, there is only four years left on the lease and they are getting knocked down. They are unlettable in my opinion and I made sure Haven knew about it. Had a load of bull---t as an apology from them. We stayed in this grade of accomodation due to pets. Also fell on the decking outside the amusement arcade and damaged my back. Would go back to Peranporth but certainly not with them.

“This has been the worse holiday I have ever...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Marie71 on 16/08/2010

This has been the worse holiday I have ever experienced with Haven.
If you pay for a top class caravan with three bedrooms you expect to have it but the caravan I had,had terrible smells from the shower room and the third bedroom which resulted in us having to use only 2 bedrooms and spending as little time as possible in the caravan as it made us all feel very ill. After complaining for four continuous days and still nothing being sorted (even the site manager agreed there was a smell but never returned phonecalls as promised), customer care is very very poor.
The entertainment compaired to previous years was very poor also where have the quality acts gone? Listening to Haven staff sing most nights was not entertainmnet but painful to the ears! The zoo troop which my children love were very rarely on stage which upset my little girl as she looked forward to seeing polly evry night.
The staff seemed very unorganised and not a scratch on last years funstars. Come on Haven get your act together this was the worse holiday ever and I've been a Haven visitor for years but no more this holiday has made me now seriously consider going abroad next year!
To be honest the only positive aspect is it's location close to the beach and places to drive too.
Peran sands you've lost your way this year.

Overall very disappointing. Only good thing was the Perran Sands location. The site itself needs a major revamp. Toilets in the clubhouse etc were all dirty and very old. The whole place generally felt grubby. We have stayed on other Haven sites and this makes Littlesea in Weymouth amazing. The only reason we stayed with Haven is because my 2 year old is obsessed with Rory the Tiger but Rory only came out for the character show once during our 4 night stay, so he was distraught! Haven market Rory as a face of Haven so they really should bring Rory out every night (or all the characters, as that seems to be the only good thing about Haven!)

Ideal place to base yourself but I have found Haven Holidays a complete rip off! We have 2 small children and rented the chalet off a private owner knowing we would have to pay to use the pool and entertainment, not being a lover of social club style entertainment we were only going to pay for a daily pass if the weather was too bad to get about, we then found out the minimum was a 3 or 4 day pass £27 per adult and about £16 per child.
The beach looks fantastic but access from the site is only for reasonably fit and healthy persons, if you have any sort of heart or respiratory problems you should forget it, really long steep climb.

I would go back to Perran Sands if they spent some money on touring facilities like Devon cliffs have. I cannot understand why some of the Haven sites have more money spent on them then others in the brochure they all sound so great and then when you get there its such a let down. I would call that and a total let down to your holiday because lets face it none of them are cheap.

written by klharris on 26/08/2005

Although we had a good holiday, Haven Perran Sands itself needs a good makeover. The prices they charge for a holiday means they can't be short of a few quid so there's no reason why they can't spend some money on the place. We booked a privately owned caravan so I can't comment on the quality of the accommodation. We went with 2 children who are both 1 and there is nothing at all for them really except the PAWS club in the morning. Ok for older kids if you're into arcades. Toilets in the entertainment centre were disgustingly dirty. I was suprised that the shop and the cafe bar were both reasonably priced. Overall, we had a nice time but we probably wouldn't go back.

“We have just got back from Perran Sands, we booked our...”

We have just got back from Perran Sands, we booked our break as part of a newspaper promotion. We have done this twice before, last year we went to Crantock Beach and Newquay Holiday Parks, both of which were excellent value for money.

We were in a chalet which was ideally situated close to reception but just far away enough from the entertainment complex so as not to be noisy.
However, we were very disappointed with the standard of the accommodation - it smelled damp, the paint was flaking off the walls and the mattress was dirty and stained. The toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall, and there was very little kitchen equipment (no glasses, for example, and no cutting knife). The wire thing for the grill pan didn't even fit into it! There were also none of the small things that make a stay more comfortable - a shelf in the bathroom, hooks on the back of the doors, coat hangers in the wardrobe etc. I understand that you can pay extra to upgrade the accommodation, and some of the other chalets and caravans looked very nice, but at other parks we haven't had to do this and the accommodation we were given was excellent.

There are a lot of facilities on the park - shops, take always, launderette etc. When we got there we were told that the shop was open until 7pm, the next day we turned up at the shop after a day out only to find that it had closed at 4 pm. Presumably other people had been told the same thing as there were a lot of disgruntled people hanging around outside.

We don't have children and we don't usually spend much time on the park, so we didn't bother with entertainment passes. It did look as though there were a lot of facilities and things for children to do (Crazy Golf, Go Karts etc).

Overall, we were not very impressed with Haven and in future we will specify parks owned by other operators if possible.

I have to totally disagree with these comments. I have been going to Perran Sands for a few years now and I've stayed in Caravans and chalets, both were the basic models and both were fantastic. The site is very clean and tidy, excellent facilities and brilliant staff. The Entertainment staff were fantastic and the band were good. I would highly recommend this park to anyone and I am going back again this year. Sometimes I can't believe how people can moan so much when they've only paid £9.50 each!!!

Klassykat's Response to md1965wfc's Review

We have just come back from a week at perran Sands and to be honest, I was not impressed as I was the first time 3 years ago. I upgraded the first time and the accomodation was superb, however, this time I could only get a Silver Olympic which is the next best to Gold (5*) and I was apalled by the cleanliness and the condition of the caravan. I dont think the caravan had been vacuumed in months and there was the remains of other peoples hair all over the carpet etc., We did take our own quilt cover and pillowcases but the quilt they provided was damp and had a musty smell to the extent I washed it the very next day at a launderette in Newquay. I believe their standards have dropped since my last visit and I would not personally recommend Perran Sands to the family on a budget holiday as they cannot be sure of the quality of accomodation being provided. They also state no vicious dogs i.e. rottweilers, staffs etc., but we saw plenty and were quite disgruntled after having to leave our rotti at home and he is the most loving, gentlest dog you could ever meet that we rescued 3 years ago. I think they should have a thorough makeover to bring the park up to date and I can honestly say it will be a very long time before I return to perran Sands when there are other parks out there much more worthy of my hard earned cash!!!

If you are going to book another £9.50 holiday, may I suggest that you don't book a Pontins or Butlins break as there accommodation is far worse than what you have experienced at Perran Sands! I have been to both places and I have witnessed insects that shouldn't be in the chalet, meldew on the curtains and revolting stains on the bed.

We didn't pay £9.50 each - there were two of us and we paid almost £70.

<br>You are entitled to your opinion and if you are happy to go back there, fine, but we will not be,.

Is it better to stay in a chalet or caravan? There are four of us and we prefer somewhere quiet so were wondering which part of the park was the quietest.
