Good Points: Style, build quality, reliability.
Bad Points: It takes a couple of days to get used to parallel parking it.
General comments: The Fiat Brava 1.4SX looks and feels Italian. I'm doing about 1000 miles per week with total reliability. I'm getting 57mpg from the 1.9 diesel and I love it to bits!

The Fiat Brava is a nice car, happy with it generally, no real problems, good to run, but high fuel consumption when driving in town.- Read Guest's review (36 words)

Looks nice, spacious and comfortable but mechanics and clutch with gear box are very unreliable. Not reliable in terms of parts. Electric faults come up every week. I was on the road and went into a side road to reverse it. Pressed on the clutch to change to reverse gear and it gave grinding noise. Not sure what it was but I am not able to change any gear as whenever I press clutch it gives me grinding noise like something is breaking or being ground up inside it. Will take it to garage and lets ...- Read Guest's review (111 words)

It's a family car alright. Large baggage, plenty of sitting space, comfort to the driver and it is still running neatly even after many kms ran. But Fiat maintenance, although cheap, is constantly required and with mileage comes increase of gas consumption and revisions. If you have knowledge in mechanics, you can do most of the necessary repairs yourself. If you just drive it, it will come as an odd fact the time it spends in the garage. Thus being, I wouldn't recommend it.- Read Peter Gunn's review (164 words)

Well, I've had my Fiat Brava 1.4SX for 2 years. It had 92,000 on the clock, now has 144. I've done over 50,000 miles and all that's been needed is brake pads, services, and last night my clutch went. Not bad at all, always gets me where I need to go without problem.- Read lowkey's review (49 words)

Overall, I quite like this Fiat Brava 1.4SX car. The developing rust spots on one of the panels and bonnet are annoying. I assumed the galvanised body wouldn't give me such problems? I also had a slight problem with the horn (wear and tear on contacts). This was supposed to have been sorted by a service centre in Leeds under a three month warranty, but it turned out when they said they'd fixed it, they hadn't!- Read audiocodes's review (103 words)

My dad bought me a Fiat Brava 1.4SX for my 18th in January. Due to problems I didn't get it on the road until the start of May. Less than 2 months later, it was back sitting on my driveway. I'd blown a hole in the engine, which was leaking oil and had covered the whole of under the bonnet in it. It had just had a new head gasket when I got it and within the first 2 weeks I'd had it in the garage, as a cable had come off leaving me with no power.
The back windscreen heater lights comes o ...- Read Mechanical girlly's review (209 words)

I have a Fiat Brava 97 (p) 1.4s, bought second hand in August 2004. For the first 6 months I had absolutely no real problems at all, lovely to drive, suited my needs (mum of 2 so school runs, shopping etc...) enough room in the rear for 2 kids car seats and another passenger (a thin one admittedly).
There is plenty of room for passengers in the front, unfortunately no passenger air bag on my model. Easy to do basic maintenance, fluid levels can be checked and filled easily and front and i ...- Read britbabe's review (353 words)

I bought my Fiat Brava 1.4 SX secondhand for £600 with 62,000 on the clock. It ran badly so I got it serviced. It is still not running properly. Going through shed loads of fuel. Rear wiper does not work. When switched on, the light for the rear de-mister (which also doesn't work) comes on. Engine leaking oil from rocker cover - constant smell of burning oil. Also quite noisy, especially when cold - reminds of a tractor. Replaced the rubbish Fiat stereo with a CD player. To top it all, I c ...- Read gomez1973's review (123 words and 1 comment)

I bought my Fiat Brava 1.4SX off eBay for 700GBP. It has all round electrics, metalic paint and is the 1.8 ELX model so comes with a number of whistles and bells. When I bought the car it had a towbar fitted so I guess my car had never been raced! Whoever came up with the idea of putting the rubber coating on the door handles needs shooting but they are replaceable for a fee. Plenty of room for 4 or 5 people with luggage. Bought it as a second car and tend to use it more for weekend driving as o ...- Read ikearns's review (154 words)

Having put a new gearbox and clutch and then fitting an induction kit with a compliment of 15" rim alloys. this Fiat Brava 1.4SX family car now gets thrown about town harder, driven faster and keeps up with the 2.5ltr diesel 5 series bmw, and beats it on cornering speeds, with a driver of the same ability.
and this is a 1.4 petrol.- Read fergie's review (100 words and 1 comment)

I have owned this Fiat Brava 1.4SX family car for 4 years from new and it was my very first car after passing my test (Lucky me!) Although the dealership was as much use as a chocolate teapot I was determined to make sure this would be a pleasure to own. Let's just say it hasn't been. It was worth nearly £11,000 when new and I will be lucky to get £2500 when I finally sell it in March. It has had two gearboxes, three clutches and many electrical problems fixed. Coupled to hugely expe ...- Read ragovula's review (148 words)

Judge for yourself - I paid £1700 for this Fiat Brava 1.4SX family car 18 months ago. Since then I have needed - a new gearbox(£600), a new timing belt (£120), new radiator(£200), new thermostat(£30), new clutch(£180), aeriel snapped in two in carwash, fuel injector light constantly on, airbag warning light constantly on, interference to radio when you operate the screen-washers, sun-roof blind sticks, speedo failed, dash lights failed, rear wash-wipe failed, ...- Read wsmbm's review (155 words)

This Fiat Brava 1.4SX family car has been a great investment. It does everything I need in a daily drive and more.
The 1.4 engine is based on the old Aurelio Lampredi single cam motor. He was Ferrari's chief engine designer and it shows.
Like all modern engines it needs to be run on good quality oil and you can't afford to skip the oil changes but the engine has been bulletproof.
It's needed wear and tear items like any other car, exhaust, brake pads, tyres. All reasonably priced.
It surv ...- Read Spanners's review (170 words and 1 comment)

Bought my Fiat Brava 1.4SX second hand from dealer, ive had the car for four years. Started going wrong after first year from buying. Spent over £2,000 now almost half what I first paid for the car just on repairs. They are a nice car when running fine, god help you if it breaks down, you will never be out your wallet or purse. Totally fed up! A comman fault with Fiat is camshaft and oilfeeder. Totally messes up everything else.- Read twiggy001's review (122 words)
